EP Daily Rundown for March 31, 201
6
Today in the Rundown, we have a round-up of all the new Final Fantasy XV info announced by Square Enix last night, we also take a look at the launch of Nintendo's first mobile game Miitomo, have an update on
Xbox One games coming to Windows 10, and find out when you’ll get to play the next episode of Hitman!

Square Enix has announced a whole bunch of news about Final Fantasy XV. The highly-anticipated RPG will launch worldwide on the PS4 and Xbox One on September 30. The best part is that you can start playing right now, because Square Enix has released a stand-alone Platinum Demo that’s available for free to everyone regardless if you’ve preordered the game or not. It doesn’t just let you play through a portion of the game like a traditional demo; it actually tells an original story featuring a younger version of the game’s hero Noctis, who goes on a size-shifting a adventure with his adorable companion Carbuncle. If you need more to play, Square Enix is working on a mobile spin-off called Justice Monsters Five, which is a free-to-play pinball game starring the main characters from Final Fantasy XV. That launches soon on iOS and Android, but that’s not all they’ve got coming. A full-length CGI animated movie called Kingsglaive Final Fantasy XV is coming to home video platforms later this year. It takes place before the events of the game, and features the vocal talents of Sean Bean and Lena Headey from Game of Thrones, and Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad. Finally, if you like traditional, hand-drawn animation, Square Enix is also producing an episodic anime series called Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV, exploring the relationships between the game’s characters. The first episode is available now, and you can watch it by clicking the link on your screen or in the description below.
And now for you daily public service announcement from the Mushroom Kingdom: Nintendo’s first smartphone app has arrived. Miitomo is now available to download on iOS and Android devices in North America. It’s basically a social media app that let’s you interact with your friends using your Mii character, and there are in-app purchases that unlock new in-game items. You can also earn points that sync up with your My Nintendo account, allowing you to buy and get discounts on 3DS and Wii U games from the eShop. Miitomo isn’t just a social app, though; there’s at least one built-in mini-game right now, with plenty of room for Nintendo to introduce more in future updates. The company also plans to release at least two more smartphone apps before the end of the year, promising that they’ll be more traditional games using their iconic characters. Hopefully we’ll get to learn more about those soon.
One of the biggest Microsoft game franchises is embracing PC gamers, but the biggest probably won’t. Turn 10 Studios creative director Dan Greenawalt has announced that, going forward, all upcoming games in the Forza franchise will be released on both the Xbox and PC. This follows the announcement of Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, a free-to-play version of the game that’s coming to the PC this Spring. Microsoft has been making a bigger push lately to integrate the Xbox One and Windows 10, with many of their first-party games available simultaneously on both platforms. It doesn’t look like all their games will be coming to the PC though. Speaking at Microsoft’s recent Build 2016 conference, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer hinted that the Halo games probably won’t be ported to computers. He didn’t rule it out completely, but says the Halo shooter games are built from the ground up with consoles in mind, so that’s where they work best. There have been several spin-offs developed for Windows platforms, and some of the earlier games in the main series were ported to the PC, although they weren’t as well received as the console versions. It’s safe to say that if you want to play Halo games for the time being, you’ll need to hold onto your Xbox.
Agent 47 is continuing his deadly endeavors next month. IO Interactive has announced that the second episode of the new Hitman game will take out the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on April 26. The new missions will see Agent 47 travel to the fictional Italian coastal town of Sapienza, where you can be stealthy and hide amongst the tourists while you’re eliminating your targets… unless you just want to be blunt and kill everything in your path. Your call. The third episode of Hitman is slated to arrive in May, with six episodes in total coming before it’s all over. If you want to wait, a complete edition featuring everything is scheduled for January 2017. I got the chance to interview IO interactive CEO Hannes Seifert about the game before its release. If you want to watch that, you know what to do.

I don't think it's possible for me to wait for the physical release. I'm downloading this later. I need something new to play, and I love the series.

Oh the new map is so good. Easily the most detailed and intricate Hitman level of all time. Soooo many options.

Even though I'm not a fan of the format they are using for this game, that latest map looks absolutely salivating so I'm going to take the dive and buy the Full Experience. It's also on sale for Playstation Plus members so that's also nifty.

I'm so tempted to try this out, but yeah, the format is what's mostly keeping me away.

Also, has anyone who played the Beta noticed that it's still available to play, at least on PSN.

Does this have many alternate skins?

Do you need PS Plus to play? I think I read its always online. Will it nor run at all if you arent able to connect to the internet?

I'm not sure if you need to be online to play the real game, but I'm playing the Beta now and it said it was unable to connect but gave me the option to play offline.

I think the online stuff is for leaderboards and contracts. But I'm not sure if it blocks you out completely if you don't have Plus.

what do you mean beta? That ended 2 months ago. What you are playing should be the real game

Nope, for some reason I still have the Beta. I had deleted it but checked my Library and it's still there, and still playable. I just re-downloaded it and it lets me play through the training missions, as long as I do it offline.

Yea, if u count 47's level specific attire, it's got 3 alt outfits at the moment(4 if u count the preorder Requiem suit). The suit from Absolution and the suit from Blood Money are coming but that will require an Internet connection as they'll be locked behind the elusive target contracts.

Yea u can play the game in offline mode, u just lose access to the contracts mode or other "live" modes.

As for ps plus being required, that I don't know.

IDK, I think the episode format is starting to look like a good idea. By piecing out the levels you end up learning them far better than you ever did in the old games. One because, well u only have so few to choose from, but 2 is because each level is so f'ing replayable, more so than any previous Hitman before it. I think if all the levels were out, people wouldn't spend enough time learning each level before moving on. Knowing these maps will also be a huuuuge factor once the Elusive Targets comes out and those are another reason why waiting will have u missing out.

So far the only drawback of the episodic release is that the story is suffering a bit. U get so little story in each level then u have to wait a month to get more.

Not going to lie, I ended up buying it because after doing some math, buying this at 10% with no tax is just as much as buying it at Best Buy with 20% off plus tax, so I got a PSN card from Best Buy, got my points and bought the full experience.

It really is fun. I've only played Absolution, so this feels a little easy when only select people recognize you wearing the same clothing, as opposed to Absolution where you had to hide from everyone who had the same outfit. I'm also not a fan of the large load times in between missions and deaths/failure, and I locked the framerate just to keep it stable.

But aside from that, it's pretty cool. I only played the first mission, and I got up to level 6 on my first go, so I'm very anxious to get full mastery on the mission. You're right about the story, it does suck, but I'm starting to wonder if I'd be happier playing all the missions at once, or if focusing on one and the many opportunities is better. MY big issue with stealth games like this is that realistically, they're very small and short areas that only take 20-45 minutes to complete because you're waiting for people to move into position. But these levels are like tiny open worlds with a lot of variety, and even though this sounds like a bad thing, it's very easy to get lost in the area and not know which way to go. But then again, once you master it, you'll know exactly how to plan your approach and that can make you feel like a true badass assassin.

Ive been tempting to get this but the episodic nature i a turnoff and I dont want to support something like this bc I dont want it to become commonplace. I dont care that its digital as Im preferring digital games in the longrun now. I might pick it up maybe in the fall when it gets closer to completion if theres a good sale (maybe BF?) and Im not too swamped with other stuff

I have a feeling it's going to happen more regardless. I mean, Telltale has been doing it for quite some time, and Square Enix has already said that the FF7 remake will be broken down. It does suck, but I wouldn't mind if this lead to faster production for new content. Although, with the way the initial setup was changed, and how the game doesn't run consistently, I can't help but feel like they are either behind schedule or have had to deal with many bugs.

But assuming all 6 levels are completed by September as promised, I wouldn't mind seeing some new missions pop up in 2017 in a "season 2" type of way. It could be better than waiting until 2018 or 2019 for a sequel.

to me those dont really compare. Thats been TTG's business model for years, long before people paid attention to the with TWD. Besides those are much smaller $20/25 games. Its not the same as taking a $60 retail one and releasing one level at a time.

FF7 isnt going to be handled like this either. They said they are releasing full sized games and likened it to the FFXIII saga. Of course people jumped on their initial statement and thought it would be episodic like TTG (which wouldnt have made sense)

As far as your point about it leading to faster production; it actually doesnt. Gamers get it into their hands faster but what you are getting is a slice. Development time shouldnt really be shorter. It may end up being longer if they let feedback influence things and they decide to change things up in later releases (which i guess could be a good thing). I also think its probably slightly longer bc each individual release has to go through its own certification and QA'd as its own thing instead of that being handled at once

If all levels will be complete by September, then why is the physical version coming in January of next year? As far as a "season 2" that sounds like it just amounts to what would be considered standard DLC which is already common.

As of now, that's exactly what they intend to do. This is Hitmans structure going forward. They've mentioned they already have plans for season 2 as the story they are telling now, will not be wrapped up in just this season. So yea, they already have an idea for Hitman going into next year.

It's easy to assume that if the final mission launches in late Sept(which as of this moment they are on track for), then manufacturing would take about a month, putting them in to November-ish. Maybe they don't want to release the game during the holidays due to the crowded nature. It's also very possible the final mission won't be out in September. They're shooting for one mission a month, which they've hit so far, but things can change, problems arise etc

Thanks. So it'll be done quicker than I expected. I thought it initially was going to wrap up around Nov/Dec. Yeah, hoping for a digital sale BF. It will be done by then
