Hitman

Like they're stance on this, very similar to CDProjektRed.

yet they are owned and published by Square-Enix which sells DLC for their games so its almost like a shot at their parent company which is a puzzling thing to do

Because you can't wait for Victoria to return?

*jab jab*

Haha. I liked Victoria, in the context of Absolution.

Also, in case anyone was wondering, David Bateson has confirmed he will be back as Agent 47.

Yet this is still considered a reboot?

Not really. The developers claim it does follow Absolution, it just won't really touch on any of that games story. I think it's more of a 'format' reboot than a story or lore reboot. But it does follow Absolution.

Really looking forward to this game. I thought Absolution was okay, but definitely think there are improvements to be made. Especially with the benefit of next gen consoles.

Really? I thought it was like a prequel or something.

I mean, 47 looks so young.

Yeah, 47 does look different. I almost thought they may have recast him and the change in face was to signify that.

I liked the e3 trailers. Looks like Hitman may be going back to its roots in terms of gamelan and story. Would be great to see proper mission preparation and briefs this time around and not be on the run all the time. Hopefully the story is a bit more sedate than Absolution's hammy dreck.

Maybe 47 is a clone of 47.

47.5

Yea, a lot of Hitman fans are saying that. It's just a design choice though. He may look younger but he's an older 47 than what we saw in Absolution as the game does take place after that title.

Sooo if my understanding is correct, the game is released this year (December) as a digital download only on all platforms, then once all the DLC bits are added the full game will be available to buy in disk form some time next year.

Is this right or have I got it horribly wrong?

You're spot on.

It also appears the game will keep growing after that content has been released. Rather than have a Hitman:Subtitle every yr or so, they'll just keep adding on to this game. One of the reasons the title is just 'Hitman'.

More developers&publishers should try this approach,It would do games like Assassin's Creed,Battlefield and Call of Duty wonders. Perhaps not as financial at first but better fan receptions and pleasing critics a bit more

Wait are you serious?

I actually have no problem with any of that. I've said a lot in the PS4 thread that I'm moving towards digital now after years of collecting physical discs because my PS3's Blu-Ray disc crapped out and I can't fix it, but I've been able to get a lot of games I owned for free through PS Plus and I prefer downloading much more now. I know a lot of developers are hesitant to go with a digital approach because it locks out those who have poor or no internet service.

Cool, will be interesting to see how it works, but I guess we will be able to pre-download before its "release" anyway so download time wont really be a factor.

Plus I like the idea of them adding a new level every so often to keep things interesting and expanding.

I'm trying to think of it in terms of how things like TV are changing. They're almost opposites. With TV, you get an episode every week, but then Netflix came along and they put out entire seasons in one shot. That's how video games have always been, but it would be interesting to see a game released with continous content being added.

Kinda like with how Rockstar is treating GTA Online where every couple of months new updates come along. Only with this, it sounds like its pushing the single player story/campaign longer as opposed to multiplayer. Could be an interesting alternative to how many developers have forced in multiplayer aspects into games to add replay value.

Hitman is tailor made for this type of model, those other games, not so much. Assassins Creed has always been driven by its narrative and while the Hitman series has always had a plot woven through its gameplay, what truly captured gamers was the act of being an elite assassin as he took on various missions. With Hitman, you can create new levels and contracts void of any kind of narrative for the most part, as 47 has never needed a story to justify what he does. He's paid to kill people. Most Hitman fans, save for the more hardcore guys like myself, cant really give you a story recap on any of the games, but what they can do, in detail, is recap their favorite level and how they went about achieving that perfect hit in said level. I think thats what the developers are going back to. They're going back to the individual sandboxes where story didnt matter as much as what the player could accomplish. We didnt really need to know why 47 was entering a Las Vegas casino to take down some Sheik, he was doing it because he was paid to. With that model, the developers can easily add content post launch without having to be roped to an existing plot line. They can just give you a new sandbox and target without having to really explain or tie into anything prior, because you are Agent 47, the worlds deadliest paid assassin. He needs no justification for the things he does. All he needs is for the check to clear.
