Hogwarts: Legacy - Open World Harry Potter Game

I'll play this but I'm not overly excited for it. At least not right now. It looks impressive, but I still had that "Hogwarts experience" itch scratched with the video game adaptations of Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban in particular, even though they weren't anything that spectacular and they came out about 20 years ago. But this, like Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, looks ambitious as hell and crafted with a lot of love for the source material.

Them saying the spell incantation for every single spell is going to get old quickly. Non verbal spells would have been better. Established lore be damned.

Maybe verbal spells are optional in the final game. I agree that it would get pretty annoying hearing the same incantations out loud everytime, given the pace of this combat system

This looks amazing honestly. My only hope is that it doesn't release too close to Starfield.

The species of characters often under fire for being an antisemetic stereotype conspires with wizard Nazis to revolt against a fundamentally unjust society that is using and will continue to use happy slaves as the villain is definitely a choice for a game whose lead designer had to leave for being an "anti-SJW" Youtuber, Gamergate piece of **** and of course that person.

Goblins have always been at odds with the human wizards. Im pretty sure the Goblin wars and rebellion are mentioned in every book. As is their their weird psychology and justified contempt for wizards and humans. Them being willing to use one group of humans to kill other humans fits with the lore. Why should they care about nazis or any other human socio-economic philosophy? They just want to overthrow all humans. For good reason. This could accomplish that.

Plus, Goblins in the books seem to be clever as hell, and very powerful. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they end up ****ing over the evil wizards once they've served their purpose.

You may want to focus on the antisemitic trope part of Snow's post, rather than the inworld logic...

Did you even read Snow's post? The issue with the goblins as they are a very overt anti-Semitic trope. It's similar to how house elves are a problematic display of anti-black/pro-slavery rhetoric, along with other such problems that come from Joanna very imperialistic, very bigoted mind.

Yeah, not one part of this post is about the point I was making.

You know, looking more at the story of this, and yeah, definitely heavily influenced by the gg'er. I also see why it got approval from Joanne. oooooffffffff

The game looks massive and filled with magic-al activities.

That preview made the game look like a Fantastic Beast of a game.

Goblins in the Wizarding World have a very justifiable reason to want to wipe out wizards. Humans would see what they are doing as wrong, but humans arent the moral arbitrators of the universe. One species, particularly a wronged and abused species, doesn't have to and shouldn't be expected to treat their oppressors with any kind of sanctity. You think these goblins are being portrayed as evil villains. To me they look like an oppressed and fed up people trying to right a wrong and get justice. And they're trying to do it by using humans to kill other humans. It sucks for the wizards but they have brought it on themselves.

Goblins in the Wizarding World need this kind of development and they need to have complex emotions and motivations. They need to have good and bad members of their species. They can't all be bankers and only ever think of money. That's how good world building works. That's what separates quality fantasy goblins from the caricatures that ignorant racists appropriated to belittle jews.

We'll have to wait and see how it ultimately turns out, but it's my hope that they've done a good job with the goblin characters and developed them individually and as a people.

The main thing I'm interested in about this game is the player freedom. Like, if I can play a trans wizard who sides with the Goblins to take down Hogwarts, I'm in.

They need to follow tropes in long running antisemitic tropes? Tell me, where is the part of kidnapping children required for this story.

Free roaming Hogwarts is the main seller for me. I don't find spells and wand combat eXciting gameplay but the castle is so well designed. Watching the preview, feels like I'm in an amusement tour. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hupplepuff have their own hubs and I wonder if I could eXplore them all without switching. I hope the graphiX would look 10x better compare to YouTube resolution.

I'm still kinda interested in this one TBH. Haven't really been a Harry Potter fan since reading the books as a kid, before the controversy. Never liked the movies and absolutely not a JK fan. But as a queer adult, I feel like I have an ownership over my childhood experience reading those books and what they unlocked for me, and JK can't take that away.

While I absolutely understand people's reasons for not wanting to buy any products tied to JK (and still feel a little bit conflicted about myself), the idea of being able to play through an open world HP game as a Trans wizard feels like a potentially cool way to enjoy the world the way I'd want to (With the bonus being we know JK would hate it).

But like I said, still a little conflicted.

Hogwarts Legacy delayed on Xbox One
Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch versions of Hogwarts Legacy have been delayed and will no longer launch in February as planned, Warner Bros. has announced.
While Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC versions of Hogwarts Legacy are still down to release on February 10th, 2023, the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game have been delayed by a couple of months and will now launch on April 4th, 2023.

I'm surprised they didn't delay the next gen versions too but I'm guessing they're banking on more sales from PS5 and Series X/S than the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

Simon Pegg?!
