Why can't other distributors(20th Century Fox, Columbia Pictures, Paramount Pictures, etc.) earn the right to DC Comics Films like they do with Marvel?

I need to know.

And whats your opinion on this?

Do you think they should expand like Marvel or do you want it only to be a subsidiary company with Warner Bros.?

I honestly prefer WB keeps all DC Comic properties.

It's simple logic. Time-Warner owns DC, so all DC movies must be made by Warner. That's why all DC animated shows air on either KidsWB or Cartoon Network (also owned by Time-Warner). That's also why shows like CN's Robot Chicken and Harvey Birdman can get away with Superfriends jokes.

Well, not necessarily. They can STILL sell off the film rights to their properties (Shazam is being produced by Newline) it's just very unlikely. Why would they let a rival company make money off their properties when they can make way more doing it themselves?

I could be wrong,. but isn't New Line a sister company of WB? There are many production companies in Hollywood that own smaller off shoot companies, like Columbia owns Sony that does Spider-Man. So that means if New Line is partnered with WB tthen they did. sell to a rival company just a smaller part of the big one.

Actually, that's quite possible. I'll have to look into that, but the fact still remains that they COULD sell off the rights if they wanted too, it's just generally not going to be a good idea.

EDIT: Yep, you're right. New Line is a subsidiary of Time Warner.

I thought so. But I wasn't sure. But that is sort of weird because New Line did the Blade movies. So in a sense the WB owns the rights to a Marvel character.

yes, I would want them to own part of DC. Fox has come along way over the years, would you rather wait another 7years for some of your favorite DC hero movies to be released

I'd rather wait 7 years to be honest, than have my favorite DC properties turned to crap on the big screen, *cough*....no, i don't even need to cough. We all know I'm talking about Marvel! :o

Warner Bros. is very protective of their product. And for good reason! WB consistently makes better movies than every movie studio.

Yeah, yeah Fox is horrible just because they did a couple of Super Hero films you didn't like so now everyone has to hate and bash on the studio even though it has both good and bad films just like any other studio, and doesn't even have a disproportionate amount of bad ones compared to any other major studio. :whatever:

Fox hasn't really come a long way they just got more popular and now get more money. The movies that come from them still suck.

Agreed
I once heard there is a iron-clad contract that keeps nearly all of DC on WB stuff.
I heard of it too

Or he could be basing it off of more than just the superhero movies. They're not the only type of movies Fox make and most of the non-superhero movies aren't any better than their superhero movies

that s exactly what I want. TO see DC get the hell out of WB! cause WB is just a bunch of black suit!

DC Comics is owned by Warner Bros. That's why very few DC films are outside of Warner Bros. production (like Shazam at New Line even though it is also owned by Time Warner).

And honestly it should stay that way. I don't want 20th Century Fox touching and tainting DC properties like they have with Marvel's.

Thats hilarious. The only studio out there that make worse crap than WB is Fox.

WB did do good movies .I DO like batman and superman but I DON T HAVE 300 years to live. All we have for decades is superman vs lex , batman vs joker again superman vs lex batman vs joker again...... I mean come on! WB grow up! We want our comics on silver screen! Give what people want!

Warner Bros just needs to get their acts together. They should just stop trying to make movies that are never going to make it to the big screen anyways (Deadman, Doom Patrol, Metal Men, Teen Titans, Zatanna, Supergirl, Plastic Man, Sgt. Rock, etc.) and just concentrate on Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman (which fell apart due to Whedon, not Warner Bros.), the Flash (they now have a director and a script in progress), Green Lantern, and Aquaman along with the occasional Vertigo movie.

and Aquaman
I kinda like Aquaman, and I know he's a pretty bad ass character, but I'm going to say something Aquaman fans need to realize: It will be a long time before Aquaman is redeemed in the eyes of the general public from the camp that was the Superfriends. To this day, he's still a punchline ("James Cameron's 'Aquaman'"). His TV pilot wasn't even picked up. Stop hoping for an Aquaman movie. At least for now.

I'd sooner watch Zatana or Doom Patrol.

If nobody even tries to redeem Orin in the general public's eye, then of course it'll be a long time.

In fact, his "redemption" should be all the more reason and motivation for WB to market the hell out of his badassery and bank on it through a movie or tv franchise. They have a majorly profitable character on their hands if they just put effort into bringing public attention to him.

I said "at least for now." Hell, as it stands, DC's editors and writers don't know what to do with him. Never have. He went from clean-cut, to a bearded pro wrestler with a hook-hand, to clean-cut with a water hand, to a completely different guy with the same name.

**Very Confused** You must like all of those "MTV Movies" or something??

No studio does movie-franchising better than Warner Bros. NO ONE. Look at how well they've taken care of the Harry Potter franchise. Look at the hip risks they took with the Ocean's franchise. Love em' or hate em', the Matrix movies were bold & original. Throw in Chris Nolan's Batman franchise relaunch, and I've said enough to prove my point.

You tell me who's doing better?? Who came out with Ghostrider...Columbia? What about that awesome 'Mummy' franchise (:whatever:)....Universal? Blah!

Yeah but thats why I m so mad about them. They did mistakes with out consulting the audience. IF the audience ask you something and it s not working that s ok because at least you tried!(example Hulk). What people wants is the flash, green lantern, wonder woman and aquaman. But HEY!no "they" decide what s good for us is constantine LXG ,cat woman . We never ask for Those as the first runner up? They did!

Marvel on the other hand didn t do all good movies but at least he "gave what people wanted to see" X-men spider man ,hulk , DD, FF4.

So when people said WB did some risk but didnt work out, well I don t care cause the risk they took no body asked for it!
