I'm a little confused.
We know that BB will be an old Camaro in the beginning of the film, then revamped/reconstructed to a 2008 Camaro at some point. WOuld that then mean that the Transformers have been on Earth in vehicle mode since the 1960's?

Possible but more than likly they just chosse what they wanted to look like.

Another point: are they gonna fix the names to fit the characters of they change them from the comics/cartoons?
For example, Bumblebee. He was a VW BUG. Bumblebee/Bug. Makes sense. To call a Camaro "Bumblebee" seems kinda silly...
I'm not bashing by any means. I am really looking forward to this.
Also, I realize that this early in the game, we will get conflicting reports, but I read somewhere that the police car we saw is Starscream. Again, Starscream for a jet makes sense, but not for a car...

Bumblebee is still Yellow and Black in color. His personality will probably be very similiar to the BB we all know and love too. His first Camero form is of a beat-up, rusted, and poor junker Camero. So it can still kinda work with who BB is.

Starscream is NOT the Police Car.
As of right now the Police Car is called Brawl.

Here...this is the current list for the Decepticons that are Rumored for the Movie:

Rumored For the Movie:
Megatron - Rumored to be Cybertronian Jet
Starscream - F-22 Raptor or F-35 Jet (unconfirmed which one yet)
Soundwave - Stereo/CD Player (turns into a 4.5ft tall robot)
Brawl - Decepticon Police Car
Bonecrusher - Military Mine Sweeper Armored Vehicle
Devastator - M1 Abrams MTB Tank
Vortex - MH-35J "Osprey" Helicopter
Scorponok - Vortex's Minion (pops off Vortex's back)

Thanks for the info...
Like I said, with all the preliminary rumors coming out, it's difficult to sort this stuff out. I was never really big on Transformers, but any guy in his 30's knows the basics, the main characters, etc.
Yeah, good point, I didn't think about the paint job being the deciding factor on the name, not the actual car type, but I see that now. Cool.

I believe it is supposed to be the F-35 Jet as Bay or someone went on about the vertical landing jets and how the jet they were using can stop in mid-air and the like. The F-22 is just a standard jet aircraft. The F-35 is a state orf the art hybrid under development. From all sources (quoted from Wikipedia actually. lol.)....

"The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) is a military fighter aircraft designed by the United States and the United Kingdom. It is intended to replace the current generation of strike fighters, particularly the vertical take off and landing (VTOL) Harrier jump jets: the AV-8 Harrier II (US), Harrier GR7/9 (UK), and the Sea Harrier (UK), along with the conventional A-10 Thunderbolt II, F/A-18 Hornet and the F-16 Fighting Falcon. It will be a multi-role strike fighter (a plane with a strong emphasis on close air support and tactical bombing as well as being capable of air-to-air combat), and will use stealth technology. It is currently in production with Lockheed Martin, along with partners Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems."

I guess Bay or someone slipped up on the names and called it an F-22.

why do they have to change things so much.
brawl a decepticon police car. wtf. is it so difficult to stick to the source material and make a good story around that.
the police car should be prowl.
why keep names of transformers yet completley change their look.
i hate this about hollywood.
i am worried about this film.
stick to teh source material for the characters. they dont need to be changed.
tsk tsk......

the more i read the more this should be called "shape changing robots"

I disagree...it's just not going to be G1 Redux, but that doesn't mean it would be a solid TF flick. It's going to be a new take. Transformers has had a HUGE amount of adaptations and re-imaginations.

TF: G1
Beast Wars
Beast Machines
TF: RID
TF: Armada
TF: Energon
TF: Cybertron

And that's just the shows. Add in the comics and toys it's even more adaptations, re-imaginations, and new starts/stories.

You just can't expect G1 Redux...it won't happen.

Problem with this is...
Transformers has been re-adapted, re-imagined, and just plain re-done multiple times over. Some of the names have been kept the same for years, but the characters are different or at least their alt. modes are different.

Which source material do you want them to follow? I assume G1. But that's already been said to not be the storyline/idea they are going to follow. They have said certain things will be taken from G1, but overall it's a new spin.

And NONE as successful and as much as a phenomenum as G1 (god I hate using that term... we didn't call it "TF: G1".... it was called TF damnit. On the other hand, those other iterations ALWAYS had a subtitle).

I'm sure all those shows are good (from what I hear, they're not... with the exception of Beast Wars.... which actually fits nicely in the original G1 story).

But, I can bet a whole generation of people who were both fans or just watched others talk about and collect TF "G1" while they stubbornly stuck to the short-lived Insectaurs or She-Ra, will be the ones making or breaking this movie. That's just my opinion.

Sorry, but I highly doubt that. Most people that will remember Transformers, won't be a stickler for a lot of ****. Most people just plain won't care. Only the diehard fans, of which there are only (being generous here) probably around 75,000 in the USA that will nitpick and put-down this movie cause it's not a carbon copy of G1.

Most adults in their late 20's to early 30's only remember select bits of TF's and really only still remember stuff cause of the fact that right now the newer Transformers toylines are out-selling even Star Wars toys (as stated by Hasbro in the last quarter reports). Kids are eating up TF: Cybertron. The Collectors and Kids are devouring TF: Alternators. Most parents and adults (I estimate at 80% of the ones that will see this movie) really don't give a **** if they change Optimus Prime to a fire truck, or make Megatron a jet, or have Bumblebee as a camero. They will just go a see it for it's summer popcorn actiony flair and take their kids who are currently eating TF toys up. Kids sell Transformers more than any adults ever could.

Now G1 is still alive cause of the diehard fans, who kept it going (such as myself, and from the sound of it, you too). But, those fans don't even make up a large fraction of sales when compared to kids. Kids will sell this movie more than adults. You have to face that fact. Parents will be interested in it for random memories, sure. Adults will probably like it cause it's a good escape from reality for two hours. BUT, BUT, BUT Kids will make a huge percentage of why people go see the movie.

Oh and G1 has been called G1 since around 1990-91. Ever since G2.

I understand what you're saying but I think you're 100% wrong...respectfully... or more precisely you're missing or ignoring the point brought up by others. The kids that buy the toys nowadays make up only a fraction of the potential audience... definately not the driving force whatsoever.... unless you'd be happy with Power Rangers The Movie 1995 performance... think about it.

Power Rangers The Movie was a dismal failure (it made 66 mil... unknown how much it cost to make)... and it came out at the HEIGHT of Power Rangers immense dominance over everything.

Is Transformers TODAY/2006 as big as Power Rangers was then? Come on now.

My daughter doesn't care about TF. None of my friends' kids care about TF either. When I was kid some of us were into G.I. Joe... some into WWF Wresting figures.... but EVERYBODY was into Transformers (even the ones who couldn't afford it had at least ONE Transformer..... usually Bumblebee).

Gen-X IS the driving force behind this movie. We were also the driving force behind Godzilla back in 98 (actually that movie had at least 3 gens behind it and it still bombed!). If you think this movie can butcher the icons that we all remember and get away with, I think you're sadly mistaken. Don't get me wrong... I don't wish the movie do bad... but that's just the way it is.

Will the movie make its money back? Probably. Will it be Batman 89 phenom??? That remains to be seen. In my opinion it definately has the potential. But people like you seem to be happy to just get a mediocre "fighting robots" movie called Transformers.

I for one have expected A LOT more.

P.S. and if I hear someone say the word "Carbon Copy" again just because we think (based on the script and what we know) that this movie is completely unfaithful to Transformers I'm going to lose it. Nobody wants a carbon copy. Only faithfulness...

To some of us (it seems the casual G1 fan) Transformers is more than "robots that change into things and get a new lineup every 3 years."

Still taking this movie like its a slap in the face to you right CFlash its just a movie can no one have fun a more.

First Off...
YOU HAVE NO CLUE what I want. Don't make a claim so. I'm a HUGE Transformers fan, have been one for 18 years. I know more about TF's than anyone I've ever physically met. BUT I don't fear changes made, cause it's an adaptation. If this movie captures the essence of a war fought by two warring factions of sentient robots, with the core TF's being close in personality and characterization to how they've always been, then I can handle that. Characterization, Personality, Ideals, and Goals of the individual TF's is what I'm wanting. NOT Fighting Robots.

I don't only want Giant Robots Fighting...sure that's a part of it, but not the whole of it. I'm sorry, but if Prime is Prime in characterization, leadership abilties, devotional-stance, and overall design...then I don't care if he is a fire truck. If Bumblebee is still the weak, but eager buddy-to-everyone with a heart of gold who tries his best to be as good as the best Autobots, then so what if he's a beat-up junker Camero.

The thing that will win me over is if they make good use of why the changes are made. The changes themselves will rarely bother me. The only ones that really have potential to bother me is what changes could be made to characters personalities, goals, and ideals. Those will be the make or break for me.

I care little about having an actiony popcorn flick with lots of fighting robots. I have stated from day one I want a movie that will make me say "that was a good re-imagination and adaptation of the core elements of Transformers". And only good characterization and care of who the individual TF's are will do that for me, action be damned.

I think your wrong on this. This movie is going to be the first movie to have the rights to use the F-22. The F-22 is not just another jet. It is the most high-tech jet we have in our inventory right now. The F-35 (which btw... goes way against the norm on naming conventions but they just flipped the name from X-35 to F-35) actually has three different configurations. Only the Marine version is supposed to have verticle lift. The Navy version has bulked up landing gear... and well the air force version is a regular jet. Honestly price wise and technology wise the F-22 is the winner. That is why I take offense to calling it a normal jet. You have to understand that the F-22 replaced the F-15. THe JSF is supposed to replace the F-16. If you know anything about jets... F-16 was made to be a cheap multi-purpose jet (you know some of the part are actually interchangable from the F-15). So I would be more excited seeing the F-22 in the film then the F-35. I think your forgetting about supercruise? It built in bomb bay? The fact that it is the stealthiest jet in the history of the Air Force (The size of a humming bird on radar? I can not give the F-35 any of these claims to fame... so I wouldn't hold your breath on the F-35... esp since it is in congressional limbo right now.

Long live the F-22... and long live Starscream as a F-22... not the frumpy... inferior F-35!

Probably because you're so used to it!
You made the point that I've been making for some time. My opinion (my opinion) is that the "casual" Gen-X'er fan (which is not you) will walk away from this movie with a general WTF? reaction.

Almost every icon (both physical and metaphorical) seem to be missing from this movie. And I just don't see it striking the right iconic chords that say a movie like Batman 89 did. I'm not saying things wont change in the script (how can you or I know?)... I AM saying that based on what we know thus far, my opinion is that it's way off mark.

I think one reason people are so pissed at the changes being made, is that right at the beginning when Tom and Don made their announcement that they had the rights to the movie and were shopping around for a studio they said that the movie would be based on G1. From what it looks like, they should have said "Loosely based"

I was simply refering to the fact that in one of the bits of information bay or something said the plane would be able to stop in mid-air. As far as i know F-22`s can`t do that. In the end it is simply bay or someone talking crap. Either it can`t stop in midair and its the f-22 or it can and it`s the f-35. Somewhere down the line bay has made a strange mistake.

I think the hovering jet he was talking about was "megatron" the cybertorian Jet. I will see what I can find out about the F-35 being in the moving. I have a couple friends that work around the Air force... so I will see what they say. Might be being supported by the marines.

They should've used the Mini Cooper as an alternative for Bumblebee, since volkswagen doesn't want to be associated with it.

Geek alert!!!

Teletran (the Transformers computer) remakes the Transformers to fit in with everyday society. Vehicles are considered the dominant species so they are reconstructed to fit in with Earth vehicles. Whatever fits closest to the current body of the Transformer is what is used.

End geek alert.
