Superman Returns How did you feel when .........

It made me lose a little respect for Superman, and made me realize how dated the costume is. When Superman was being manhandled, he was reduced to nothing more than a poser who was wearing his underwear on the outside. It just looked comedic. Superman is nothing without his powers, just a panzy in panties. Batman all the way. :)

It was a hard scene to watch, and I'm not even that avid of a Superman fan.

But Supes got back at them. Did you see the look on Luthor's face when his island just started flying away?

****ing OWNED.

Seeing Superman beaten hurt...me. He liked how he fought back and wouldn't give up. But man, there was total silence in the theater during that scene.

You should get outta here wid that garbage...

You wanna play that game? In Begins, when Batman was gassed by the Scarecrow, he was reduced to nothing more than some "a**hole in a costume" screaming for his butler.

(This is comin' from BOTH a Batman & Superman fan...who by the way ranks BB as his #1 Superhero movie of all time)

My reaction was that they were laying it on a bit thick with the whole Superman/Christ allegory. The only way they could've make it more obvious was to put "SUPERMAN IS LIKE JESUS" in big bold letters on the screen.

I was gutted. Very sad scene and a horrific one, that was. It showed how much Lex hates Supes and I loved that. Kevin Spacey was amazing and so was Routh and Posey. I loved the sad look in Kitty's eyes when she was feeling sorry for Supes getting the crap beaten out of him.

i also liked how Brandon actually yelled in pain when they kicked him. when you get kicked in the gut by a huge muscular dude you don't just go "argh!" you go "AHHH!!!" and to me it really sold that Brandon was actually getting hurt.
that must've been what they recorded when Spacey actually kicked Routh for real ;) :p

It's odd. That was the one scene that just seemed to quiet the entire audience. I mean, EVERYONE was quiet. No claps, no coughs, no nothing. Throughout the entire beating.....just total silence.

It was odd, sad....and just.....I dunno. I was surprised at how hard it was to watch the way he got manhandled.

i liked how it looked for a second that Kitty was going to say something to Lex, but then Lex just walks towards Superman without him even looking at her...

...awesomely shot and acted.

heres a real question..... how is superman gonna feel now running into lex after being stabbed???? i still wanna see superman take luthers hand or something... that would be nice or crush it like he did Zod's.... pay back is a Motha ****er

I dunno. I hope he'll show up in the sequel, although he could stay on that island for God knows how long.

The beating, nicely shot. Excellent music too, it really conveyed the mood and the drama.

I found that scene particularly brutal...but the entire time I'm thinking, wow, this film hasn't really showed us why these guys hate him so much. Which just added to the brutality for me.

Well, we know why Lex hates him.....and those are some bad guys he met in prison. They're thugs. They just brutalized Superman for the hell of it, and for Lex.

There was slience in the theater and people were saying omg, like it was being broadcasted on CNN or something?
The peolple at the theater I attended reacted the same way.

It was a powerful scene.

I think that scene has scarred me for life, lol. It is so terrible to watch, seeing the greatest hero of all time so vulnerable and helpless. Supes getting dragged by the face has got to be the most shocking image that I left with in my head.

I also think it was very noble how Superman didn't immediately go and take 'revenge' on Luthor. He just went straight to the threat at hand and removed New Krypton. He didn't let Luthor get the better of him at the end either. He put him in the back of his mind and addressed the issue of him being a Father first.

But I do think in the future that Supes will remind Luthor of what he did to him.

Dude. I'm so glad you mentioned that. That was just an icing on the cake. Parker Posey did a great job, portraying Kitty.

What's wrong with that? I have always been a huge fan of Bats and Supes all my life, and I also think BB is the best all time in SHM...

SR was great, but BB was better. IMO ;)

No, it was killing two birds with one stone. Throw NK into space, thus saving the US and killing Lex and his goons in one stroke.

So Superman might not know that Lex is alive? Cool. He could be under the impression that he is crushed or trapped on New Krypton, floating in space.

I don't think he knows that Lex is on that island.

Dude, it's a direct quote from Batman Begins? I'm not callin' Bats an "a**hole", I was quoting a line from the movie...

Hearing superman plead while Luthor's henchmen was covering his face was sickening, I never want to see Superman that vulnerable. Then again perhaps it was needed, either way Superman came back and saved the day.

How much did your hate meter go off the chart for Lex and his thugs at that point? I wanted to run at the giant screen screaming like an ape and rip at the characters on screen!
