Luke Cage How Do You Rate Luke Cage Season One?

Overall a solid season but definitely not on the same level as Daredevil (S1 or 2) or Jessica Jones, which were both outstanding. The writing just wasn't on the level of excellence as those shows, which is surprising and disappointing, especially since I have much higher standards for a Netflix production then say the CW. I also found many moments came off as cartoonish (cheesy) where perhaps they weren't intended to be. The social "messages"were a bit preachy and heavy handed for my taste. Many people are praising the score, but I found it didn't work in a lot of places, particularly early on in the series where it was more distracting and melodramatic then I felt the scenes needed. There was certainly some great performances and really high moments over the 13 episodes, don't get me wrong here, but the "low" moments were much lower then we ever saw on DD or JJ, while the "high" moments were definitely not as frequent. I agree with the sentiment on the general discussion thread where some have speculated it will not be held in the same esteem as DD or JJ.

I understand that, I'm the same about things I don't like. I'll never see a Green Lantern or Aquaman film. Some of my friends don't understand that 'cause I like comics in general, but we like what we like.

I'd give it a 7-7.5. It's good, but not as much as I was expecting/hoping:

1. JJ.
2. DD S1.
3. LC.
4. DD S2 (this had a great HALF of a season, with the Punisher stuff. But once it shifts focus to Elektra/The Hand, it starts going downhill quick imo).

Having re-watched 10 of the 13 episodes again, I will bump me initial score up from a 7.5 to an 8.5. I definitely made the mistake of binging the majority of this, which I didn't do for DD or JJ. I won't do that again. Everything seems to flow and feel more alive on the second viewings then the first. Freedom from crazy expectations and sleep deprivation definitely made a difference.

I still don't think it reaches the top heights of JJ or DD SI (and large parts of season 2), but it certainly has moments of greatness. I'd say it isn't great, but really good.

Yeah, Power Man is a high 8/10 for me. The "cheesiness" some people are complaining about were nods to blaxploitation era of the 70's. Unless you're familiar with that facet of movie history you're just not going to get it.

I understood the references, but it still felt a bit off in the more grounded "gritty" Netflix world that has been established thus far. You just have to understand the context and "go with the flow". Some will definitely appreciate or "feel" it more then others. I feel the season is flowing much better on my second viewing and am definitely enjoying it even more.

I wish the poll here used the same system as the others. I would give it a 10. To me, this was as good as Season One of Daredevil. Unlike Jessica Jones or DDs2, it didn't feel like they ran out of story or had to force things in to pad it out. Instead, the transitions felt pretty natural. Plus, the music was amazing.

I thought it was the weakest of the Netflix series so far, but still good. It might have surpassed Jessica Jones if David Tennant's Killgrave was taken out of the equation. I wasn't as engrossed in it as the others.

By far better series than DD, JJ. The writing was on par with some of the best gritty shows like Empire or Power. The music was OUTSTANDING!!! The homage to the comics was really good. I give it a 9.8/10

I'm still waiting to start this series, I wanted to see how people who weren't crazy about Jessica Jones rated Luke Cage against it. If it's worse or around the same as JJ, I may not bother.

I think all of the netflix shows/seasons are sitting pretty at between 8 and 9 out of 10. Which is where the bulk of the MCU is sitting too.

Finally, finished it tonight. Absolutely loved it! 8/10 for me and a hair above JJ. Cage, Knight, Pop, Stokes, Dillard, and Shades were great characters. The overall story was good. The show kind of took a left turn when Diamondback finally entered the scene. The final fight was a little awkward but was quickly cleaned up with an awesome ending to tie it all up and move us forward into the next season. Marvel just can't miss right now.
