How has there never been a sequel to Independence Day?

I remember there being talk about it taking place on the alien planet...but never ever came of it.

I know the film has alot of fans but personally i never liked it, i thought it was a bit dull. I'm not sure why they never made a sequel though, the film did really well, in thisday and age in hollywood it's a surprise they never made part 2.

I cant beleive you all like ID over Mars Attacks... Are you kidding me!?
Mars Attacks was so funny and much more interesting then independence day. It was a fun film in the 90s and when I watch it now its still awesome. Where as ID is terrible when you watch it now (I'm not shocked its from the same guy who did 10,000 BC *worst film of the year* ).

Also Independence Day was FULL of terrible plot holes, and I don't give a hoot if its sci-fi...these plot holes just didnt make sense.
I guess Mars Attacks was really for those with a 'different' sense of humor...one thats very dark and witty.

EDIT: Im still reading some of this thread and some people think that ID was better than WOTW....wtf?...do people realize how bad this movie is?
