Independence Day 2?

Watched some of Survivor's Remorse tonight.

Jessie Usher can definitely pull of being Will Smith's son if he is given decent material.

It's actually a pretty cool show if you into shows like Entourage or Ballers

Well go on then...tell us what you saw
Started with the 'Spy' trailer then a feed interruption with some voiceovers. Heard what sounded like a grand speech (something akin to humanity's resolve and will to survive). Then #IDR popped up. Yes, just the hashtag.

That's it.

Everyone was confused. :funny:

My wife and I watched the original last night (like we do every year). We still love it every time, and even though we always find new stuff to pick apart and make fun of, it's still a great watch. We're excited for the sequel.

for me they waited too long to make this sequel but ill at least go see it. the original was good back in 1996 but is pretty cheesy now. not sure how they will write out will smith at this point. the guy could of at least made a cameo appearance IMO. so in theory it took 19-20 years for the aliens to reach earth again? i mean i know that's how long it was since the first film so i suppose that will be the excuse?

I'd be more excited if Will's character was in the sequel. It's just not going to be the same without him. I really hope they don't write him off disrespectfully.

obviously id say he is probably dead.

They mentioned this already, the answer is wormholes/time dilation and whatnot. For Earth it's been 20 years, but for the aliens on the other side of a wormhole, it's only been two weeks.

I'm going to miss Will in this, too. :(

Yeah he'd have to be dead. I dont see how else to write him out and explain why he's not fighting aliens this time.

That, in my opinion, would be incredibly disrespectful and would kind of taint the original imo. I would much rather they just don't mention him at all or say he has been drafted overseas or something.

they could of had him make a brief cameo and killed him off at the beginning of the new invasion. kinda like what they did with randy quaids character. he dies in a fighter jet. at this point im not sure what they will do unless we are all being had.

yet his wife and step son are in it. i seriously doubt they wouldn't mention him at all.

i think that'd be more disrespectful then killing him

I could see them just ignoring his existence if 1) his son wasnt in the movie 2) Goldblum and Pullman werent in the movie.

But at the end of the day, if the movie is good then I, and others, wont care if he's not mentioned or killed.

He could be doing any number of things, training new pilots, etc. Maybe a cushy job working on the new defense project. I don't know how likely it would be for a guy Hiller's age to still be flying a fighter.

After watching Independence Day again over the weekend, I hope 2 leaves out some of the cheesiness. When I watched it when it first came out it didn't bother me I guess, but wow, some of the lines and parts are so bad after watching it again. Probably because I'm older.

Hell, he could be running some station in space...

Even that would suffice as a reasonable explanation.

He could be alive, but his fate completely unknown to the main characters of the movie. Just as in the first movie, the aliens begin by destroying our communications systems. He could be the equivalent of the combined British-Iraqi-Israeli force stuck in the desert.

I like both of these. Leaves him open for a return in the potential ID3, too.

I wonder if they'll take another idea from Robotech and have his character be off in space on some sort of search mission ala the Sentinels.

I'd be cool with that

Another, more humorous approach would be that they have better security protocols in place now, so the microsecond we even get a whiff of alien activity the Vice President and his staff are locked down in a secure off-the-books bunker somewhere. Maybe Steven Hiller is like a senior advisor right now, and happens to be locked down with the VP, deliberately but against his will, causing Dylan to remark at some point, "Damn, pops is not going to like being kept out of this fight. I'd hate to be the other guy sharing his bunker right now."

That I wouldn't be so cool with

But also you know why I think death is a better option? What about the sequels. Yeah they should focus on the first films, well first

But writing him out for one film is one thing are they going to constantly come up with an excuse for why he isn't in the movies.

I bet they'll go the death route too because nowadays damn near every male lead is: "My father (or both my parents) died now Im a cocky a-hole who is very skilled at what I do but am too lazy"

I just feel they'll go that route.

"My name is Dylan. Dylan James Tiberius Wayne."
