How I Met Your Mother - Part 3

Are they actually married a year from now or still just dating?
I think that's them being there for their wedding.

I have been thinking (and saying) this might be a past-tense talk too, like the mother has died but I'm still hoping that's just wrong. What she may be is out of town somewhere (she is a musician) and he's telling this story to pass the time until she returns...

I don't think she's dead, that would taint the whole show with unnecessary darkness.

After the ending we got with Dexter I don't think I can accept another twist ending.

who is responsible for casting Milioti? give them money,Nobel prize,... everything. give them everything. she is just perfect. just how lucky can you get after 7 seasons?

i think the first episodes are proof that the last 2 seasons are a joke. there are some good moments but everything now feels like wasting our time. i rewatched the last seaon. and Marchall's and Lily's stories were disgustingly bad. Jason Segel is on autopilot for 2 seasons.he doesnt care. he is IMO acting bad on purpose so that they would already end the show. there was nothing funny yesterday . Lily? it was good because it was the crazy Lily meeting the mother. they have no no nooooo f.. idea what to do with Barney and Robin.

Milioti and her scenes will save the final season.

Agree 100%. They were honestly the only things I liked about the first two episodes.

All I care about is Ted and him meeting the mother. It's what made me like the show in the first place, and the reason I've kept watching. And it's been really hard the last few seasons because it's become the Barney and Robin show, and I really don't give a crap about them anymore.

i bet the one year later scene is the same day their daughter is conceived.

I was just going to post this last night lol.

II also think this is what happens because the clerk mentioned how countless babies had been conceived there, and a year later from the present time would be 2014, and we know that the daughter is born sometime in 2015, just in time for Trilogy time.

As for their wedding, I don't think they're engaged because the mother didn't have any rings on her hand. At first I thought they were hiding her left hand like they did with Barney in the flash forward to Trilogy Time, but then I watched it again and realized that you can see her hand and its empty. The only thing that throws me off is the line about Ted finding a real catch, because that implied that she knew they would be together forever.

Having the ring or not having it could've been an oversight or they simply weren't intending for anyone to actually see her hand but it just happened they did. I think her hand was mostly hidden for that scene but maybe they didn't do a good enough job?

Anyway, it could also just be that it's the one-year anniversary of when they met and Ted wanted to take her back there, and not that they are engaged, married or their daughter conceived. Perhaps he's actually taking her there to propose? I think that would be the most fitting thing, because it's the place he met her originally.

Anyone seen this commercial before?

It's a 2008 Ford Edge commercial featuring Cristin Milioti. The background music playing in it is "The Funeral, by Band of Horses" which was also used for HIMYM's season 8 opening episode, "Farhampton". Foreshadowing or what? :awesome:

Those brilliant bastards!

The way she was looking, I was halfway expecting a UFO to show.

The last 2 seasons of HIMYM weren't bad, but they suffered from the same issue that Smallville suffered from in its final seasons. And that's that it was delaying in every way possible, good or bad, to delay getting to the shows destination. In Smallville's case, Clark becoming Superman. In HIMYM's case, Ted meeting the Mother.

They weren't bad, but it just felt like they were stalling, and in turn, it made every episode feel like filler rather than something that was progressing the story, like its earliest seasons (for boths shows) were.

Brilliance or coincidence? I don't think they even knew at the time of Season 8 ep 1 who they were going to cast as the mother, unless they had their eye on Cristin all the way back then. However, it does look like, in retrospect, as if it all fits together perfectly. It was as if it were a big clue they provided in the music if you knew where to look and what to look for.

So only really accidental brilliance in hindsight, I think.

It was a joke, DR. I thought the "brilliant bastard(s)" snap that Marshall dropped on Barney before might have pointed that way. Ah well, back to the drawing board.

I've never been a fan of Barney and Robin. To me they just really do not belong together, at all. Just very odd pairing IMO.

This just in from CBS: #BreakingBad's Bryan Cranston returning to HIMYM as Ted's ex-boss Hammond Druthers. Story coming at @THR.
AAAAAHHHH!!!! :awesome::up:

I completely disagree. I think Barney/Robin make a lot of sense. Hell, they were a great pairing in the first season in that one episode where Robin was Barney's wing-woman.

They make a lot more sense than Ted/Robin in my head. And with all the moments they've given Barney/Robin the last two seasons if this whole wedding is a big fakeout I'm going to be majorly letdown.

They do make a lot of sense. They have just the right amounts of similarity and disparity to work together. Barney needs a woman just like Robin to settle down with and Robin needs a man just like Barney. They smooth out the unevenness in one another without becoming bland.

I totally agree. I was skeptical at first, but there's something really sweet and adorable about her. The normal instinct of hollywood execs would be to cast some tall model type or a stunner who you know would have like 5 guys chasing them in real life. Instead they went for someone that you would probably work with or know around the neighborhood. She's exudes comfort and warmth, and you could see how the two of them could fall for each other.

The Robin/Barney pairing works much better than she and Ted. There's enough mutual damage amongst the two to provide balance and make it bearable. Although, I prefer single Barney so all his zaniness is on display.

Outside of the show's early going (and other than that she's hot), I don't know why Ted would want her. Robin kinda sucks.

Sometimes hot is enough...it compensates for all the other stuff.

Then as you get older, you come to your senses.

maybe Barney and Robin work on paper. but on the show they just can not writte good stories for them. the proposal episode worked because they combined Ted and Barney into a super-character. Barney alone couldnt do it. the character is not up there with Ted with such a romantic porposal.

where was the last time they used a gun joke for Robin? where is this?

I don't understand why anybody thinks that the Mother is dead when Ted's telling the story to his kids. I mean, sure it's a possibility, but has there really ever been any indication that that's the direction they're going?

No there hasn't, and as I said before, if she were dead, I think the tone of his narration and his retelling of certain events would be far more bittersweet and tinged with regret.

Obviously Barney's soul mate is Marshall's daughter.

Haven't been watching HIMYM for a while but the mother brought me back!
