How I Met Your Mother

Saget has an awesome job. He probably just has to go to a voice over booth, do his work, and get $$$.

It just occurred to me that future Ted is voiced by Bob Saget...
I never really understood that... I mean are we suppose to believe that Ted grows up to be Bob Saget? (but, I guess the guy needs work)

In about 20 years, Ted's voice changes from Josh Radnor to Bob Saget

It's funny because I was think of Danny Tanner when I see or hear Bob Saget. And sometimes I feel like Ted will actually be the same kind of father.

And Radnor has a certain Bob Saget quality to him.

interesting
tho isn't she already suppose to be a couple months along in the show, so her character will probably start showing before she does in really life, so, she'll probably still have to wear a fake belly until she starts showing more
which to me is just kinda funny in an ironic kinda way

Haha I just got done watching the season where she has to hide her real pregnancy, pretty funny how they go about it. Especially the end when she leaves for 4 weeks because of Barney's joke.

When the show comes back we will finally see Ted and Barney's bar: Puzzles.

Yeah, but at least this time around, they won't have to cover up her pregnant belly with ridiculous props like they did a few seasons back.

ya, but, the hotdog eating contest one was hilarious

Punchy was the best. :o

I'm only 6 episodes left to complete the current season (episode #12, that is).
It has become my replacement to Friends and Seinfeld. And even though the overall series isn't as great as those 2, it sometimes reaches the same quality, both in acting and writing. Some episodes are really great, and what I like about the show is how the narrative structure makes it able to do a lot of different things that normal sitcoms can't do, like giving twists at the last minute, or having things being revisited from previous episodes.
That's why reminds me of Seinfeld, the episodes are perfectly written, is not a traditional episode structure, it changes almost everytime. Sure, sometimes it can get repetitive, but it still works and provides some fresh pacing, you never really know what to expect once a season or an episode starts.
I'm glad the show is still on the air.

I compared the show to a modern version of Friends but with a better balance of drama and comedy when I first started watching it a year ago, but I don't think I would to Seinfeld because that felt like a completely different show, which may be because it was older. Like Seinfeld was just pure comedy and wackiness, while Friends was mostly comedy and some drama later on, and HIMYM is more of an equal balance of both and manages to deal with serious issue while also adding humor in between. But I think that's what makes me love this show so much because there's a lot of insightful lessons that you can apply to real life.

I never thought about it before but all three of those shows are set in NYC.

Yeah, yeah, I know Seinfeld didn't have any drama at all, I compare HIMYM to it just because of how they try to create something different each episode, how the stories are tied together somehow. Maybe not as straight as in Seinfeld, but the episodes are very well constructed. Is like they try to pull off a 'The Betrayal' once in a while.

Why isn't this show cancelled?

The show isn't funny and it's weird. Hell they even have an audience soundboard for fake laughter?

I tried to watch a couple of episodes, I like the setup of a father telling his kids "how I met your mother", but gthe show is not funny the main guy isn't interesting?

Also, if I was the writer for the show, the "mother" that that main guy is talking about should be her:

That would a be a great twist and realistic unexpected. You find your soulmate in the most surprisingly and unexpected ways

Actually, there's an explanation for that. The structure is different that the regular sitcom. It has too many cutaway scenes, a lot of flashforward/flashback sequences, it wouldn't work with a traditional audience.
I wouldn't mind the recorded laughs, but there's one in particular they use it ALL the time, that ends with a girl laughing. It's distracting.

i haven't seen all the episodes but is Ted and Lily a possiblity? I know Lily is working on getting pregnant? Is she pregnant?

What if the Lily's kids are who Ted is narrating too, or maybe on of the kids? duh duh duuuhhhh

I respect your opinion, but a lot of people (almost 9 million) feel differently and that's why it is still on the air. I personally think the show is very funny and have watched it from the very beginning. I agree that Ted is not the best, but the ensemble keeps me coming back, not just one character.

Although the Laugh Track has been a staple for many sitcoms in the past 50 years, HIMYM is a bit different. The show incorporates several Flashbacks per episode. It would be very hard filming live for each show. The laughing you here is a recording from an audience watching the episode in it's entirety post filming.

Director, stop living to troll. :o

Good return episode. Never get tired of Alexis Denisof as Sandy Rivers.

Well, Ted does suck.

I actually give Randor a lot of credit. Playing the straight man is hard and unrewarding but it is also a necessary comedic staple. All great comedies have a straight man and they are usually the least liked character. No one watched Seinfeld for Jerry. Kramer and George were the draws. But look at how much Bob Patterson and The Michael Richards show sucked. They needed a Jerry to play off of. The straight man serves a necessary function. Sure, Barney, Lily, Robin and Marshall may be funnier, but the show would be terrible if they didn't have Ted to play off of. Plus, Randor and the writers have done an incredible job of humanizing Ted. He has unlikable traits, like all people....but I still always find myself rooting for the poor guy and hoping he finds the mother soon.
