How I Met Your Mother

Is it for certain that Barney will get married or are we to believe it without any real confirmation? The wedding will probably be shown at the end of season 8 since that's when Ted meets the mother and I don't know how many more years they can squeeze out of this plotline. The series finale could be Barney and the bride deciding not to get married and Ted meeting the mother...

Yeah, we really don't know the timeline and where the wedding falls in to it. Heck, we could have Barney propose at the end of this season and not see the wedding portion until next year. That may be spreading it pretty thin, but who knows.

My hope is that we get a solid run of episodes to get to know the mother, whether that be half of a season or a full season, I don't know. I just don't want it to be...

Ted: Hi. My name's Ted.
Mother: I'm ______.
Future Ted: And, kids, that's how I met your mother.
*fade to black*

It would leave me with the same feeling that I had watching 75% of a two hour finale be centered on a wedding between Clark Kent and Lois Lane, then watching as Clark's transformation into Superman and use of flight is given an utterly ridiculous (not to mention rushed) five minute sequence, capped off with some shoddy CGI.

There is going to be another season to deal with the drama the mother brings to the table.

Ted will probably end the story at the meeting, but his children will want to know the rest of the story, up to the wedding.

I think what we do know for sure is that the season 7 finale will reveal who Barney's bride is. Then season 8 will follow the two getting to the point of marriage. Now, the season 8 finale could reveal who the mother is and season 9 could show Ted and the mother getting to know each other and marry or maybe we'll just see the mother in the series finale and that will be that.

Honestly, if I was Ted I would be pissed too. Robin and Ted broke up for the sole reason that she did not want to settle down. It wasn't like she didn't love him. So if she decides to settle down with Barney, I'd be asking some questions too!
The thing about Barney and Robin since the start of the show they've been hinting at the two would be perfect together. You saw that in the episode where Ted and Victoria first slept together. It's just been building from there on. And it all came to a head when Robin admitted that she thinks they belong together in the premier. But I agree with you Ted should be upset if she says yes to Barney. But at the end of the day Ted needs to also see she wasn't right for him. Also if you look at future Ted you will notice he only hangs out with Marshal and Lily and not Barney and Robin to much. They only hang out every now and then.

'How I Met Your Mother' scoop: Barney, Robin, Ted storyline will 'take a few episodes to explode,' says boss
by Sandra Gonzalez

Don’t call it a love triangle just yet.

The final moments of Monday’s How I Met Your Mother could have been interpreted many ways. As Victoria boarded a bus out of Ted’s life, she left him with parting words, “There is a reason it didn’t work out between you and me. It’s Robin. She’s so much bigger in your world than you realize.”

Your post-episode confusion is exactly what creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas intended.
“We chose our words carefully as we always do, and it’s all right there,” Bays tells EW exclusively. “Obviously we’re not telling the whole story right away because there’s still a lot of story left, but I think Robin had always been an integral part in Ted’s life. If you look at all the moments that he’s kind of come close with girls, Robin has always kind of been there at the moment where it fell apart. If you look at him and Zoe, if you look at him and Stella, it’s definitely a monkey on his back that he needs to figure out how to move past, or, not move past.”

But that’s not something fans will see right away. Bays says just like the audience, it will take Ted some time to figure out the truth behind Victoria’s words. “As we left it, the narrator is very much aware that Robin will become an issue for him, specifically for him and Barney, and that triangle will not work out. But Ted has not internalized this yet. He laughed it off, if you remember, when Victoria told him that. So it’s not like next episode is going to be Ted asking Robin out. It’s a little more complicated than that.”

How complicated? For one, Bays says those worried the show will be revisiting the Barney-Robin-Ted love triangle should prepare for twists. “It’s not as clear cut as that, and there will be some other elements,” he says. “The way we’ve been talking about it, there is this central triangle between Ted, Barney, and Robin that’s always been there…and it will start rising to the surface.” But, he warns, “it will end up not being a triangle so much as some other geometrical shape. A square or a pentagon. Or it could be a pentagram — a love pentagram between Ted and Robin and Barney and their dark lord Satan.”

But this is not something fans will see in the next episode, which Bays says is more about Robin and Barney. “This is where I don’t want people to get frustrated. Where we left of is Ted, Robin, and Barney just goofing around having fun at the bar. I feel like is setting a fuse that may take a few episodes to explode, we’ll put it that way.”

The endings to the last two episodes had me hooked. This season has definitely become more interesting and I am happy that they are focusing a little bit more on Ted now. All through the summer everyone has been talking about Barney and Robin and Nora. I'm glad we're talking about Ted now too!

Same here. It`s always been the Ted stuff that got me hooked on the show and I too feel like they drifted away from that for a while.

When the 100th episode of a series focuses mainly on the breakout character's love for suits and saves the main character for the episode's B-story, it's pretty clear that they lost their way.

Not to mention that ****ing monkey mugging episode.... Gawd, season 5 sucked. :o

I guess maybe it's because Ted is the "straight" character in the show. He's not exactly as funny or eccentric as Barney and Marshall. I mean to be fair, Marshall is definitely my favorite character in the show but I also watch for Ted. The show is his story after all.

I never really cared for Marshall, although in the past season they gave him some good storylines and his acting has really sold it. But with Ted, it seems like they fall into the Smallville thing in that we all know what Ted becomes to some extent, and we`re eager to find out how he gets there, but sometimes it seems like they stall just to drag the show out a little longer. But the idea of bringing back some of his old girlfriend as a way of helping him move forward really reminds me of how Smallville tried to close a lot of past storylines in the last season, and I really like that for both continuity purposes, as well as the fact that the focus is back on Ted and his search for The One.

Marshall is a good character in that he's the guy you would want as your best friend, or the guy you would want as your husband (all the ladies out there).

I agreed with Victoria's prophecy. There's a reason being that close wouldn't work and it's because Ted can't really appreciate any new girl because he's always judging them by some huge idealistic standards or his own start of the relationship with Robin. We've seen him meet perfectly lovely girls and then suddenly he has an epiphany of some kind and blows them off. Look at the girls from episode 2 this season. Sure, none of them was 'meant to be' the mother of his kids but I'm glad the writers are at least acknowledging that sort of dependent friendships are not that healthy.

This is why I say Ted is going to have a problem with Robin being with Barney again and it's going to be like when he first found out Robin and Barney slept together. However I would like to see Ted end up with Nora, they both have the same ideals of what they want out of life and seem like they would fit better together. But I still see Barney and Robin getting married and Ted meeting his wife (who I think is Barney's half sister) at his weeding. We all know Robin isn't the mom since they already explained that she wasn't.

Yeah, and its interesting to note that Ted was only mad at Barney for breaking the Bro Code, but didn`t really care about Robin sleeping with Barney of all people. And I think that`s kind of the reason why I never liked Robin for Ted after a certain point, because she basically became a female Barney, only without the suits and not nearly as awesome.

I really like Nora and hope she stays around but I don't think she'll end up with Ted. Something about Ted and Barney sharing the same girl turns me off. They already did it with Robin and it didn't turn out so well the first time. Can't see them doing it again with another girl.

did you not watch any of season 5? much worse.

Tonight wasn't nearly as good as last week, but I thought it was on par with the first 2 of the season.

Matter of tastes, really.

Didn't really dig any of the plots. Not a fan of Ted trying to creep in on the baby, just a tad creepy (although very sweet) and I don't like what they're doing so far with the Barney/Nora relationship. I like them together, and I liked Barney's sing-along but they're really removing a lot of his bite by cleaning up his act, not a fan of that.

I liked the episode. I enjoyed crazy Robin and Kal Penn guest starred! And now we know Marshall will be late for the baby's delivery. Barney has to be watered down whenever he's in a committed relationship. He was like that with Robin too. It's also a part of his character evolving. He can't party and hit on girls forever...

Did anyone else notice that future Ted got the night off? Anyways it was kind of funny to see Robin chasing after Barney. I just hope they don't drag it out and just put them together sooner than later.

Yeah, I hated the watered down version of him with Robin, but last season, with his dad and Nora, I felt like they made great strides with him without making him lose his awesomeness.

He didn't lose his awesomeness with Robin. Remember the sleepless inn keeper or when he and Robin were trying to prove they are the better couple
