I just saw The Prestige and loved it. I watched the special features and found out that the character of Tesla was real (yes sadly I didn't even know he was a real person). His character was one of my favorite parts of the movie, so I googled his name and saw some vids of him on youtube. I woulda payed more attention in school if they taught about him.:o

it's pretty interesting the things they don't teach you in school.

Wow, people are that stupid? There's this neat group of channels called "The History Channel,National Geographic and the Science Channel". Watch an hour of that instead of American Idol or Heros.

Tesla was an interesting man and The Prestige is an excellent film. He is an underknown genius.

He was also crazy, he also tried to make a death ray and a machine that would tap the groun until the earth would crack into two pieces.

Yeah, I never heard of Tesla until The Prestige, but he is indeed a bad motherf**ker. :woot:

The best thing I learned in school so far was Rasputin. That was a hardcore dude that just. Wouldn't. Die. :wow:

Geniuses can either be crazy or sane...but he was still a genius.

Rasputin would have made a great boxer.

The only reason I know about Tesla is because of Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Tesla coils RULE.

Tesla is sometimes refered to as "the Man Who Invented the Twentieth Century".

Tesla began to theorize about electricity and magnetism's power to warp, or rather change, space and time and the procedure by which man could forcibly control this power. Near the end of his life, Tesla was fascinated with the idea of light as both a particle and a wave, a fundamental proposition already incorporated into quantum physics. This field of inquiry led to the idea of creating a "wall of light" by manipulating electromagnetic waves in a certain pattern. This mysterious wall of light would enable time, space, gravity and matter to be altered at will, and engendered an array of Tesla proposals that seem to leap straight out of science fiction, including anti-gravity airships, teleportation, and time travel. The single strangest invention Tesla ever proposed was probably the "thought photography" machine. He reasoned that a thought formed in the mind created a corresponding image in the retina, and the electrical data of this neural transmission could be read and recorded in a machine. The stored information could then be processed through an artificial optic nerve and played back as visual patterns on a viewscreen.

Another of Tesla's theorized inventions is commonly referred to as Tesla's Flying Machine. Tesla claimed that one of his life goals was to create a flying machine that would run without the use of an airplane engine, wings, ailerons, propellers, or an onboard fuel source. Initially, Tesla pondered about the idea of a flying craft that would fly using an electric motor powered by grounded base stations. As time progressed, Tesla suggested that perhaps such an aircraft could be run entirely mechanically. The theorized appearance would typically take the form of a cigar or saucer.

i never LEARNED about him, persay
but i think i was born with the knowledge of what a Tesla coil is
and Futurama helped too

The sheer ignorance on this thread will cause me nightmares.

what? did you learn about tesla in school or something?

sometimes you gotta venture out on your own and learn things they don't teach you in school.

It scares me that so few people don't watch anything educatinal. Maybe if people spent more time watching the Discovery channel instead of MTV we'd have less idiots.

Telsa was quite interesting but he also had he demons. He was an anti-semite and an OCD germaphobe.

i've never heard of him being an anti-semite. wouldn't that go against his "free power for ALL people" agenda?
