How would the Land Before Time Fare in CGI?

How do you feel about a TLBT remake?

  • I think that's a great idea!

  • That could be okay.

  • I might watch it if my significant other drags me to it.

  • That sounds pretty bad--don't they have enough of those?

  • HORRIBLE IDEA AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

  • That's probably the wrong medium to attempt to revive this failing franchise.

One of my dream projects would be to work on would be a LIVE-ACTION remake of the OG Land Before Time. It was one of the greatest movies ever made when I was five, and I would love to see Spielberg or someone apply Jurassic Park animatronics to a live-action remake, with CG enhancements, of course.

Either that, or a live-action Brave Little Toaster remake, with CG animation. I mean, come on! How awesome would that be? Don Bluth is the man! Titan A.E.! Alright, I'm done.

That's actually kind of an appealing concept, but if you take it that approach, you lose the ability to really make the film stylized. Live-action, to me, removes a degree of art form that traditional animation possesses, and I see stylized CGI as a nice counterbalance between the two. I don't want the movie to end up looking like BBC's Walking with Dinosaurs, after all, but I do see where you're coming from.

Ducky!!!

watching the movie. i cried when little foot's mother died. :(

Me, too...me, too...

When I was younger, I obsessed. I read a lot about dinosaurs. For a while, before I started reading better sf and better literature in general, Jurassic Park was my favorite novel.

On a separate subject, anyone own TLBT on DVD?

always been a dino fan. I love watching long documantries. :hehe:

i downloaded TLBT last night so I could watch it but i don't own it on dvd.

gawd. Ducky. so cute. yup yup yup.

Great idea, but the film fares so well as hand-drawn animation that an update is hardly necessary.

to be honest, i'd love to see ALL the Disney classics recreated in cgi! how cool would it be to see Jasmine or Mufasa in 3d???

The Lion King was already heavily reliant on computer-generated images, though, but it's an interesting idea.

I would love to see it. Was a big fan of the movie. Haven't seen it in years, so it would be great to watch it again. But I doubt they will make it.

no there is something about the first that is simply impossible to capture

i don't care how good they are, cgi movie still miss that special something that makes hand drawn animation amazing

I used to love that film, it was one of my favorite ones.

But now I think it no way sounds good to just turn the whole classic into another CGI crap. I mean did they really lose all of new and fresh ideas? The only thing, which they keep doing is ramakes/sequels stuff :down

I still stand by it as a very fun concept, that could at least renew interest in the original film.

me too. 2D hand animation is so 20th century...
Is that sarcasm?

I'm not advocating a death to animation stance, by any means. I think that TLBT could look absolutely breath-taking with appropriate CGI, though.

Just something random...this is an actual Wal-Mart online customer review:
"I was disappointed at how scary and violent the movie was. My son was very upset when the mother didn't show up at end and cried hysterically. Obviously, I should have rented the movie before I bought it."
Um...okay...

Is that sarcasm?
no but i meant it in a joking manner. guess i should've put a smiley...

yeah, i was just joking about 2D. i still like watching quality 2D animation (mostly anime) but 3D is just so much more diverse and eye catching...it would be splendivorous to see Aladdin, Peter Pan, or Land Before Time in 3D.

lol...i remember crying when his mom died, but i was so happy for them in the end. she sounds like a soccer mom. her kid is gonna grow up being an uber sensitive nerd, still living in the basement and spending all day on SHH.

I could definitely agree to that. And don't worry, I wasn't trying to pick a fight with you, I just wanted to make sure that you weren't being completely serious.

what's wrong with wanting to see old school characters in 3D, Drizzle?

It's not that. It's the prospect of actually remaking all of the old movies, which isn't neccessary. If you want to see 3D Disney characters, just play the Kingdom Hearts games.

entertainment, in general, isn't a necessity. it's not necessary to do ANYTHING involving music or movies, but we do it because we WANT to. of course, remaking 2D Disney movies as 3D CG movies isn't necessary but you can't tell me you wouldn't watch them if they did it.

as for playing Kingdom Hearts, [sarcasm]yeah...that's TOTALLY the same as watching a fully rendered 3D movie.[end sarcasm]

Well, to offer my opinion...it would be fun, as I admitted before. However, most of these films--Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King--were not traditional animation. And they're still very popular. But TLBT seems to be fading from public consciousness.

that's true. TLBT could really benefit from a 3D remake while the others, like you said, would just be fun to see.

Remake be damned.

In fact, every Land Before Time film after the first one be damned. Will it never end?! I hope the ice age wipes out all those kid dinos. :cmad:

Yes I can. I wouldn't watch them at all. Because the films are fine the way they are and they don't need to be changed. The Special Edition of "Star Wars" proved that when you screw with the classics, there will be hell to pay.
But TLBT seems to be fading from public consciousness.
Unfortunately, all of the Don Bluth movies are fading out of the public consciousness. Stuff like "The Land Before Time" and "An American Tail" deserve more recognition.
