Transformers How would YOU do it?

Honestly, I don't see what is wrong with a Decepticon or two taking on the form of a car as a disguise. I mean, if humans are supposed to trust Autobots (Whom uses cars and trucks as their alt modes), then they see Decepticon cars trashing everything, who are they going to call? Mako?

As for Mass-Shifting, I dig mass shifting. But I find something's about it off, aside the fact that a 30 foot robot will shrink down into a device which can be held in your hand. Yeah, yeah, I know, dimensional pocket etc. But I mean, if Megatron is an all mighty leader, then why would he need a minion of his to gently squeeze his trigger to take out a target? And for Soundwave, which is a neat alt mode, but still, I swear, if he blares out Wham!, i'm gone. And don't get me started on Reflector (Another Decepticon I like). But what's the point of his alt mode, too take pictures to treasure forever?

Reflector: Hey Megatron, here's a picture of you shooting optimus prime at that dam, remember that?

Megatron: Ah yes, those were the days. Hey, wheres the picture of my birthday cake with energon? lol I'm curious as to who stole the last piece.

*Reflector hands megatron another picture*

Megatron: STARSCREAM!!!

Wasn't Armageddon an action/disaster movie? I just don't get the whole sympathy thing. Call me a heartless bastard I guess, part of the reason I watch a disaster movie is to see people die in unique ways and on a large scale.

And feel glee? Ugh. Really???

Someone should have stuck you downtown in Sept five years ago to see just how not-cool dropping bodies really are.

oh man, i have the perfect response to cflash's post, but i'd rather not get banned.

anyways, cflash if you're smart enough to figure it out (i doubt it) it would have been directed at you.

There is a huge difference between a terrorist attack, and an action movie about f***ing asteroids. I'm supposed to feel something everytime somebody gets vaporized in WOTW, or a giant laserbeam blows up a skyscraper? F*** that! How can you compare those movie scenes to the horrifying aftermath of 9/11 and the overwhelming tradgedy of Hurricane Katrina? No movie scene could ever come close to producing the kind of gut wrenching feeling, like I'd even want to relive those feelings over and over again. Its far easier watching a movie with action that's so over the top it has no poignancy.

Oh and by the way a**hole, I was living in Jersey at the time and was at ground zero shortly after. Thats too bad if you're actually as thoughtless as your comment would suggest.

I don't recall saying anything about "cool". I just think there shouldn't be too many "cars" in the Decepticon lineup. Maybe one, and then a truck, a chopper, a plane, a tape recorder, etc. More diversity.

I'm kinda surprised the US is already selling F22s, I guess it won't be long before the next model is out. These things are practically obsolete the minute they come off the line.
Really??? I take it you're refering to the JSF (Joint Strike Fighter)?? That's not a replacement for the Raptor. It's additional aircraft to be used by the Navy, Air Force and Marine. It is more of a long range bomber with a varriation for each branch of service, The Marine version is capable of vertical take-off. Look it up on wikipedia.

Thoughtless? I'm not the one. In any case, to me, there's treating death and destruction the Saving Private Ryan way and treating it the Pearl Harbor way. Armageddon is another one that just doesn't get it. WOTW IMHO handled it way better. That was my only point. A movie doesn't have to make you feel like you want to leave... but it shouldn't "make fun" or desensitize death and destruction either (as movies like ID4 and Armageddon do) unless its straight out camp... which those movies don't intentionally try to be.

P.S.
Now as well as then, I lived and work in Manhattan... if that means anything to you. Interestingly, my high school is across the street from WTC and we had the pleasure of being there for the first bombing... which wasn't fun either.

Oh yeah, that's an amazing jet, it would also be an excellent alt mode for starscream.
the tomcat and eagle are old jets...

it would be better to use something up to date, like a F22 Raptor.

Yes, thoughtless. As in making arrogant remarks about a person you don't know and assuming they couldn't have possibly experienced as much personal loss. I guess we're all a little desensitized, right? Its not even about feeling glee watching those scenes, its the oh s*** factor. Another example would be the Matrix with all the cops that are killed. You just take these movies at face value, the same you would with a horror movie. I don't think anyone would argue Pearl Harbor is a poor representation of its genre, if you can call it a war movie. Thats the problem really, I don't even know what it's supposed to be. I really believe Bay was trying to make an emotional war drama, he just doesn't have it in him. I just don't get how anyone can compare ID4 and Armaggedon to Saving Private Ryan??

I was comparing Saving Private Ryan to Pearl Harbor.

In terms of the others, I was stupid. I totally went into the theater for both ID4 and Armageddon expecting somewhat different movies. Because the commercials so much reminded me of V, I went to see ID4 totally expecting a real sci-fi movie. Similarly for Armageddon. If I went in expecting Evolution or Scary Movie III I may feel different.

I may think the story for WOTW needed work... but that movie blew all those other 1990's crapfests to bits in terms of good, sincere filmmaking IMHO.

In any case, what prompted this exchange was you saying this "part of the reason I watch a disaster movie is to see people die in unique ways and on a large scale." Call me thoughtless all you want... but I just don't get that mentality.

I guess I just never had any respect for any of those disaster movies that came during that time, they were all a big joke to me. I don't put WOTW in that group btw. I'm glad action movies have more or less evolved beyond what they were in those days. If I should ever want to feel 15 again I'm sure I can find one of those on cable or something.

Yeah, I remember the JSF now, I thought they had abandoned it. Shortly after the F22 came out in 97 I saw really crappy computer simulations of the JSF and its looks like they haven't changed much. Took em long enough though.

Totally my fault for sure.
Though the marketing campaigns didn't suggest those movies would be as empty as they were. And, also, it would indeed be Bay's fault if he *intended* to make a good movie and ended up with Armageddon and Pearl Harbor instead. I for one don't think Bay realized (or has yet to realize) that he made what will go down as a couple of the worst movies in cinema history.

So, in the end, we're agreed. Unfortunately, I wasn't 15. I was in college and pretty pissed off at all the insanely crappy movies coming out every summer in the mid 90's. Apparently, I never got over Jurassic Park... which I loved and cast a shadow on all the amatuer crap in the mid 90's. And, then The Matrix came out... and also someone decided to give my man Sam Raimi a shot at a blockbuster. And then movies got good again.

And now here comes Bay again (*shudder*)... with quite possibly the single movie I've ever anticipated besides the Star Wars prequels and Godzilla.

LOL I just envisioned that in my head using Frank Welkar's voice for Megs

No, but you do pretend to have one every time you post in these forums. Did the doctors forget to give your medication today Mad Tad?

actually, i've been consistantly having a heavy period for the last three months, so your joke is not funny.

and according to my doctor the meds are the reason i've been having such a chunky flow.
