How would you have done the movie?

more wolverine exploring his time with weapon X, which would add more time with Deadpool, agent zero, blob (i guess) bolt and sabertooth

i dont even think id include blob at all in it, but at same time id keep the cyclops cameo and possibly gambit in some form

i think its safe to say it all could of been done better

They really just approached this movie from the wrong place, all together. Whichever take they wanted to go with, it shouldn't have been a huge, special effects, cameo-filled extravaganza where every character could jump 10-50 feet in the air. Wolverine, the character and a movie based on him, needed to be darker, smaller, more realistic.

Personally, I think the focus should have been on a combination of Origin and Weapon X. Show Wolverine going through the stuff he does in Origin, then throw in the thing from the actual movie with him and Sabretooth in the wars, bring out the rivalry between him and Sabretooth. Towards the end, have James be captured against his will and turned into Weapon X; the adamantium bonding process and Wolverine's subsequent outbreak (which wouldn't need to be R-rated, see X2), done right, would be the most intense, best part of the movie, so it should be the climax. Finally, end with his escape into the Canadian wilderness, his memory shattered by the process he just went through and slowly regaining his memory, leading up to where he is in X1.

...if they absolutely had to take the approach they did take for the movie, though, the least they could have done is make Weapon XI into Sabretooth, as an explanation for his transformation in X-men.

Yes. You are spot on.

I typed this out very quickly, but here are eight ways the film could have been improved:

1) Make Victor more than someone who moves at the speed of the plot. He's never in a scene by himself, and he seems to be around whenever the story demands. He kills Bolt in Ohio, and suddenly turns up in the Canadian Rockies to fake Kayla's death. After he goes off to the high school to catch Cyclops, he magically appears in New Orleans for a second confrontation with Logan. Why he's there in the first place isn't explained, but the next scene after he runs away shows Logan and Gambit fly to Three Mile Island (which is in Pennsylvania). Somehow, Victor has beaten both of them there, because Logan finds him speaking with Stryker. How did he get there so fast? Did he take a plane? Drive for hours on end like a madman? Is Victor a wizard???

2) Have more emphasis on Logan's surgery and its reprecussions. I've said it before, but it bears repeating: the surgery scene could have been the highlight of the movie. All you had to do was show the violent escape attempt and how Logan reacts to having his body laced with indestructible metal. He pauses after he slashes open the back door at Alkali Lake for half a second to look at his claws, then jumps off a waterfall. Is it difficult to move with 25 or 50 pounds of solid metal in your body? Would he have to adapt a new fighting style? How difficult would it have been to refilm the flashback sequences from X2? The sets were there. The groundwork was all set up for it. Maybe that's why it wasn't filmed. Because it was better.

3) Murdering secondary characters when you don't develop them at all has no impact. Bolt, Wraith, Silverfox and the Hudsons (among others) had no character development. Trying to give a character a big emotional scene right before they die is a disservice to the plot. They should be three-dimensional, interesting people that are developed from the very beginning.

4) Interesting plot threads were dropped for no explanation. If Logan and Creed are fighting in four different wars together, wouldn't it have been a good idea to show how they were bonding as brothers? How did Silverfox first meet Logan? Why is Bolt working as a carny at an Ohio fair when he could be making big money as a hacker, or a computer technician, or anything else? Wouldn't it have been interesting to see a short flashback with finding his dead wife and Jason standing over her?

5) Shoot on location. The entire climax from the moment when Logan gets kicked out of the facility by Deadpool to the end looks cheap beyond belief. In fact, having watched the workprint, there are shots in it that don't look as glossy or fake as the final cut, and those are without effects.

6) If you're going to make a prequel, you need to make sure the audience is concerned for the safety of the main character. Logan flatlining during the surgery scene is not suspenseful, because we know he survives. More time should have been spent with his life as a child. He could be put into a perilous situation where his healing power and bone claws finally manifest. That would have been thrilling and suspenseful. Instead, all of that is wasted in the first five minutes.

7) If you're a writer, you'd better make damn sure that you're well-versed in the source material. It doesn't matter whether you're a fanboy or not. Jonathan Nolan took the best aspects of the 70's and 80's Batman comic and amalgamated them into two feature films. Jon Favreau understood Iron Man well enough to cast the man who was the living embodiment of Tony Stark, and wrote a screenplay that combines several decades worth of continuity. The new Star Trek respects every film that came before it, and gives both old and new fans reason to want to go see it.

8) Don't cram characters into the story if you won't use them. The reason why many fans still regard X2 as the best in the series is not just because of its story, but because of the references to characters and situations from the X-Men universe. How cool was it when Hank McCoy and Gambit were referenced? Or when Colossus offered to help Logan take out the soldiers in the mansion? Then we finally see these characters, and they're not given much to do. Keep it small and focused on three or four main characters, and cut the extraneous filler.

- His outfit. Not sure yet about the hat, but loved the coat.
- They gave him his trade-mark poker cards, and bo staff, and used them both properly. Some people complain that it seemed like the cards were levitating; whatever, for me its fine. The way he ùsed the staff and fought with it was great.
- The casino. The whole aura of the place totally matches with his personality.
- "Do I owe you money?" "Then Remy leBeau I am". Great.
- They made his eyes glowing red when he was about to throw the first card; that's good enough for me when it comes to the eyes.
- Good try on the accent. Could have been better, but it was decent.
- Taylor's hot, Gambit's hot. <----Not this one so much but the rest - The fight in the alley.
- The conversation with Logan in the plane; very in character for the both of them.
- I could go on. I wish they would have given him more screen tiem, more lines, more everything, but it's a start, no? Overall, I'm just happy 'cause they did him justice (finally) and it was great to see him in action.

that about sums it up for me too.

i know he didnt really fit in and was just used to move the plot along and bring in the fans that have been wanting him since forever. but hey if you gonna have there be a one and only mutant to escape from a prison..who better for it to be than gambit??

I would have made the gambit wolverine fight longer and make it end different. no clear winner, they would have been making smart remarks to eachother during the fight, and eventually would have stopped because gambit figures out what wolverine really wants. it would not end with wolvie cutting down the ladder and slaming gambit against the wall. also add more gambit screentime to the end. dont thnk id have him in the fight with deadpool, maybe just using his powers(lots of cards) to take out a bunch of guards.

thats all id change cause im a gambit fan and he is the only reason i was hyped for this movie.

After Kayla's betrayal is discovered, I think it would of been cool if Wolverine elected and made the decision to have his memories wiped... in order to dull the pain and lose the memory of Kayla and his love for her (ala Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind)... Wolverine could of easily run into a young mutant during the escape who wipes a guard's memory away in order to stop his hostilities... and then Wolverine asks her/him to do the same to him.

That would of been more tragic and an interesting character choice.

The magic bullet is the #1 thing I didnt like about "Wolverine". I thought that was just totally lame writing and a totally lame idea.

The idea of Wolverine wanting his memory erased would of been poetic and made X1 2 and 3 more interesting... since Wolverine so desperately wants to discover his past in those films... and in Wolverine we learn he WANTED his memory erased... kinda intriguing/nice contradiction.

If I wrote Wolverine that's what I would of done.

I honestly don't get why they didnt just make the movie the way the comics were, with the actual origin. Its like they changed everything around just for the hell of it. Blob, Gambit, Bolt, and Wade were all there basically as gratuitious throwaways. None of them were essential to the story save Wade, and none of them were actually involved in Wolverine's real origin.

Then they gave us the old couple as some sort of fake Hudsons.

The more I think about this movie the more it pisses me off. It was a complete slap in the face to Wolverine's character and fans.

I would have done the movie as either a two-part or a trilogy:

Opening with the 1854 adolescent sequence, keeping with some of the stuff from the original "Wolverine: Origins" comic. Then I would have gone through the war montage and Wolverine's eventual recruitment into Department H.

Establish the team as Wolverine, Sabretooth, Maverick, Wraith, Kestrel, and change the mission to Africa to the mission to recover the carbonadium synthesizer and the subsequent encounter with Omega Red. Have Sabretooth kill the woman involved (Janice, I think) that Wolverine flipped over in the comics.

Have Wolverine quit and be captured, brainwashed, and operated on by Cornelius/Department H after meeting Silver Fox and settling down with her prior to Sabretooth killing her. Then I would go into his capability and fighting exercises as Weapon X (helmet and bear-fighting, baby), followed by his escape and arrival at the Hudsons.

As he stays with and regains his humanity with the Hudsons, he develops feelings for Heather and eventually joins Alpha Flight to try to escape the hopeless situation, becomes their prize member, and is sent on a mission to neutralize Hulk and Wendigo. We know the rest.

Basically, his actual origin. Deadpool, Gambit, and Cyclops would have nothing to do with it.

Opening shot of the movie- Wolverine, with dead babies on his claws.

"Hey bub...googoo gaga my ass...."

CREDITS.

YEAAAAAAHHH!

I don't know s#$% about makin movies, but I know what I would have rather seen in this movie. Less cameos, would have wanted to see that extra time focused more on how nasty Wolverine and Creed really are. Would have wanted to see the time at the Weapon X facility last longer then 3 minutes lol. I mean he basically gets his metal bones as fast as anyone gets a milkshake at a drive thru. Then out of no where he's fighting a helicopter lol, I think that's exactly when the s#$% hit the fan. I'd really rather see Wolvie gettin trained in that facility and everything. Sabertooth would be the main bad guy along with Stryker, none of that lame ass Weapon 11 bulls#$% would be in the movie etc etc..

jesus finally... somebody sees eye to eye with me on how i think A LOT if not most of us would wanna see it go down.. like it actually did!! amen...

what would of been awesome involving that couple to show wolverine's rage and desperation. Is when the old man checks to see who is in his barn he can tap him on the shoulder to see if he is alright and wolverine guts him in the stomach as a reaction.

that would of been better

hahah that woulda been in the R rated version lol

nah wolverine stabbed jean in the stomach but we must have the old man drop a plate with a ham and cheese sandwich

Since Fox likes short movies I would've dedicated most of the movie to the Weapon X team. Focus most on Sabretooth, Wolverine, and Deadpool. Gambit and Cyclops wouldn't be in the movie. Although I like both characters they aren't really necessary to Wolverine's story. I'm not sure how Kayla would be worked into the story, but I believe Fox would want a love interest so she's probably have to be there.

I would have executed the last 5 minutes a little differently. I just thought it looked all too fake

I would've had Stryker catch Wolverine a little more off guard than he did, because wolvie lunging right at the bullet with arms spread and all, just didn't do it for me. Like they didn't put in an ounce of effort into that scene

I however would have

of all the movies to goof up they picked THIS one... jeepers cripes!

I would have done pretty much the same thing story wise, I just would have made a few changes:

-I would have changed the overall tone of the film a bit. The trailers imply that the movie is going to be a slower paced film with lots of focus on the details, and not rushing through scene to scene. It's the same thing with X-Men: The Last Stand. There scenes that were there were good, but they don't really go into the details.

-I would have given a lot more depth to Wade / Deadpool. I would have had Wade volunteering for the procedure because of more manipulation by Stryker, promising to rid of the "cancer". I also would not have stitched up his mouth once he becomes Deadpool, and I would not have had him be mind controlled.

-I would have had the Weapon X procedure wipe Logan's mind, and not use the adamantium bullet. I'd also sit and think it through pretty thoughorly as to how the rest of the story would play out with Logan not having any memory of anything. A creative and skilled writer would be able to figure it out.

Those are really about the only alterations I'd make to the movie.

Well for what it's worth, bullets normally don't harm Logan, and he knows it, so he really wouldn't be concerned about what he would have thought was just a regular magnum.

wat was the need to have Wades mouth stitched shut??? why didnt they just make him not talk??? i mean he was already under Strykers control.. wtf?

- Opening scene would be like the one we got but longer. I also want the reveal that Mr. Howlett is not Logan's father not so corny and cliche. This is a little kid and he just murdered his real father. Two kids also aren't going to run off and live in the woods. I would have liked Creed sr. to have killed Mrs. Howlett which lead to Mr. Howlett getting shot as well and then Logan stabs Creed sr. They then are shown put into the state's care as the ride away from the mansion and you can see the small Creed shack off to the side.

- The war montage was good as is.

- Stryker recruits Logan and Victor and they go through training. We meet Wade, Agent Zero, Wraith, and Silver Fox. All of these people are part of Team X with Stryker heading the team. Silver Fox has the mind control ability like she does in the movie. Kayla doesn't fight but she is always at Stryker's side. We can see the tension in the group as Creed wants to be Stryker's lead and kissing his *** while ignoring Zero's barking orders. Kayla and Logan flirt and we see that they are romantically involved. Wraith and Logan are also close buddies.

- Their first mission is to take out a group of mercenaries who are dealing weapons on the black market. We see Stryker taking orders from his superior. He is given strict orders to kill the mercs and take the weapons. Well Stryker knows that these are the same guys that have been making deals with African extremists and they torture them for evidence and some innocent people are killed. Logan and Victor get the job done but not as good as Zero or Wade. Stryker offers them both some useful 'tools'.

- The second mission is of course to Africa and it plays out most like what we got in the movie. Logan hesitates from killing civilians, kids for example, and fights Wade and knocks him out. He can even have a cheesy one liner like "Well that shut you up!" Creed then attacks Logan and Zero points his gun at Logan's head. Kayla interjects and talks some sense into Logan. They are in love and he listens. Kayla obviously uses her powers of persuasion.

- The team fly back to America and Victor and Logan enter the Weapon X process. Experiments are done on them. Wade talks to Stryker about his cancer and if he will be given the combined healing factor from both Victor and Logan. Stryker says yes. Logan is hesitant about the adamantium but Kayla ensure him that he will be okay and that she is there by his side, she once again uses her powers on him. Stryker tells Creed that he will be second. Stryker explains the process to his audience. A helmet is put on Logan as well as a respirator. They shock his brain to make him lose his memory and to knock him out so he doesn't feel the pain. The process starts and technicians assist the machines in the bonding process. Admirals and Generals watch from the above balcony. Zero and Kayla are by Stryker's side.

- The procedure is done and everyone is happy that Logan survives. He wakes up in the tank earlier than expected. Stryker orders to shock his brain again and out pops the claws and he erupts out of the water in terror at his metal claws, blood in the water and on the ground. Zero begins shooting at Logan and Logan goes on a rampage. The military leaders are rushed out and Logan stabs the technicians and just goes crazy. Soldiers step onto the balcony and begin firing. Logan runs out and escapes.

- Logan is on the run for days and runs into the Hudsons. They take him in and are scared when he has his daily nightmares. He works for them and gets back some of his humanity. Months pass.

- We see that Wraith, Creed, and Zero continue on missions for Stryker capturing mutants. We don't see them actually out capturing but Stryker explains to General Munson that he is selecting specific mutants to use for Weapon XI. Weapon XI is viable because a mutant was found that can handle multiple abilities without dying. Munson is hesitant and says he doesn't think using people taken against their will is a good idea and is angry that one of them has escaped and is in the general populace. He threatens to shut them down. Creed kills Munson. They also have been frantically looking for their escaped test subject, Logan, but with no success. Wraith is becoming hesitant about capturing mutants for Stryker to torture and is angry that a kill order is out on Logan. Stryker orders Wraith to be killed in his sleep. Victor does so.

- Back in Smallville:D Logan gets in a bar fight and his claws are shown. People freak out and he returns back to the Hudson's. That next day, his old team pays him a visit. Wolverine awakes to screams and he hears gun shots. He sees Mr. and Mrs. Hudson dead, taken out by Zero sniping. We then get the action sequence we got sans barn explosion. That was not needed.

- Back at base, Kayla is yelling not to harm Logan at Stryker. Creed subdues her. Logan is angry but has no idea what is going on. He buries the Hudson's and Kayla pays him a visit. He has no idea who she is and she gives him the information he needs to get back at the man who did this. She is saddened that he doesn't remember her. She apologizes that she is the one who got him into this mess. She leaves crying.

- Logan makes his way back to the base as per Kayla's instructions. He has nothing to lose so he goes. He rides Mr. Hudson's bike. Back at base, Stryker is angry that Kayla betrayed him and Creed kills her. We then get a peak at Weapon XI and Stryker asks for an update. We see some mutants locked up, we also see his son, Jason, frozen. We see some nameless mutants restrained in specific ways to counter their power. No Gambit...sorry:(

- Logan arrives and he sees Kayla's body. He is puzzled, as if he remembers her more than her just giving him information. Victor steps out and laughs. Victor taunts that he killed his love but Logan doesn't remember her. Logan is confused. Victor laughs and attacks Logan. They fight and Logan wins. Victor is bloody and knocked out. Stryker orders Weapon XI to be used now even though it isn't complete. Wolverine begins to head inside and he sees the mutant prisoners. He lets them out and is met by Weapon XI. The other mutants escape. Back to Weapon XI. No it isn't Wade...just a nameless, faceless mutant that happened to be genetically able to handle multiple powers. He sees Stryker leaving out behind Weapon XI (kind of like what happened in X2 before he fought Yuriko). They fight and destroy a lot of the facility. Stryker frantically orders his son's, Jason, frozen body to be evacuated because he is the key to controlling mutants. The fight leads out onto the dam and Wolverine defeats Weapon XI. Weapon XI's body falls down into the dam's waterfall. Logan is so confused and he sees a helicopter take off with Stryker in it.

- The short after credit scene is Logan in Japan drinking.

- The after credit scene is the abandoned Weapon X facility at Alkali lake. The lights are flickering and we see a body covered in a cloth with machines turned off all around him. Wires and tubes connected to the body under the white sheet. The sheet moves and a hand comes out and takes off the cloth, the lights flickering. The body sits up and rips out the tubes and wires and we see that it is Wade. Close up of him looking at the camera.

THE END.

No its like Rogue w/o her super strength and power of flight lol

To me, the biggest flop in this movie was the tone. In Bryan Singer's X-Men movies, Wolverine has a few flash-backs of a horrifying experience that he had years ago; he doesn't know where he was, and he doesn't know why it was done to him; and it was SCARY. That tone was not present in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

Just about everybody knows what Wolverine's personality is supposed to be like: He's "a killing machine with a heart as big as the great outdoors." This was demonstrated perfectly in the first X-Men movie, from the time that we first see him in the cage fight until the time that he allows Rogue to ride with him. In the comics, he was always rough and tough, but there was also a sadness to his character. This was a man who had no idea who he was; had no idea what he had lost, and that his life was made up of tragedies. This is an interesting idea that wasn't really explored in XO:W.

THE END.

This is about what I was wanting. I think it would be interesting if a director could pull off a movie seen through the eyes of Logan after the bonding process. One of those movies that has the audience going back and forth with Logan trying to piece together what has happened to him, and why he has these claws, this ability to heal fast and no recollection of anything before waking up in the water filled tank.
