How would you rate Clark as a fighter?

I've been debating with a guy on another forum in which he claims that Clark is a horrible fighter which I completely disagree with. I think that after all of his experiences Clark is at least a little above average as far as being a fighter goes. He also said that Clark's strength would be below average after he becomes powerless but I seriously disagree with that as since Clark still isn't huiman when he's powerless, his body structure should allow him to still be stronger than the average human. So, all in all, I'll rate him as a 7/10 as far as being a fighter goes.

Titan begs to differ

I think at the beginning of season 6 he a low rate fighter but, after fighting all the phantoms hes grown to be am average fighter. And him being weaker after having his powers restored is ridiculous.

Just because he physically overpowered Titan, that doesn't make him a great fighter. He can land some hits, but he doesn't have any technique.

Pointless argument if you ask me.

Why would 1 need to learn any sort of technique when you're an alien from outer space with superpowers?

Because apparently he isn't the only one with superpowers? I don't want him to learn martial arts or anything, but he should do more than just charge at his enemy.

Well he always gets the job done, and that I think is what ultimately matters.. lol.

Well, other than technique on how to use those superpowers LOL.... but I agree.

Then again, Clark has handled himself rather well when he *hasn't* had superpowers, Mortal being a good example. He was also sick and OLD in Transference, and he beat King Thug as Lionel in prison, so Clark can handle himself.

Clark has two offensive weapons at his disposal, brute strength enhanced by invulnerability and heat vision. When it comes to hand-to-hand combat, that's all he's got. See the comics. That's Superman. He may pick up a bus and throw it at somebody, but that's still just brute strength. It's not like he can pull shark repellent out of his utility belt or something. :hyper:

Quoted for Truth.

Clark also was willing to take on witches in Spell and that kid in Leech that had stolen his powers.

His ability to fight isn't all about brute strength. It also involves a nearly endless amount of courage.

Now the brute stength helps, he probably wouldn't be able to take on a martial arts expert without it, but the bravery helps too.

:super:

Clark has grown as a fighter but, Superman doesn't hve all that much technique, it's mostly brute strength liek pat said.

The fact that he can't fight could lead to a good story down the road if he was to face a super fast martial artist, nd he gets owned so he has to learn to fight another way.

^^^^ Reminds me of that Lois & Clark episode, where that exact thing happened.

Superman had to be trained by some special Martial Arts guy to defeat these other Super Martial Arts Guys.

I think of Clark as a bar room brawler with big ole punches and plain old beat'em up style. He is a farmer at heart to so im sure jonathan taught his a few things about cleaning a guys clock. He also played football and you learn to tackle from that and what not so i mean he prolly is more resourceful than we see, but he is also always holding back so that he doesnt kill every one he hits that is a meta but not invincible.

The fact is there's no way for Clark to train as a fighter because quite frankly, there's nobody to train with. He's simply too strong and might hurt somebody who tried to teach him.

@AgentPat
Superman himself is an ok fighter because he has been rendered powerless enough times to know that you have to be ready to defend yourself at all times. That and also he often meets people who are just as strong as him and he needs more than brute force to defeat them.

because darkseid would beat him to a pulp if he didn't know a thing about any technique.

Wait! So they're bringing Darkseid onto the show now? ;)

Folks, we're talking about Clark here. He's only recently had to fight PZ'ers, and he had his ass handed to him by Zod. Up till that point, the worst he's had to deal with is being tossed around by a bunch of meteor freaks. I don't think he has it in his head yet that he needs to learn how to fight better because he's pretty cocky as it is knowing he can't be hurt under "normal" situations. (I still laugh at Clark's line to Jimmy about risking ending up in traction fighting him to defend Chloe's honor. Hah! Cocky S.O.B. :D )

Anyhoo, it'll be interesting to see if they elaborate on this "training" Clark is supposed to get at the FOS. It can't all be learning James Joyce poetry or how to conjure up cellophane shield logos. :p :p ;)

Isn't more about the human heart and theories about immortatily. (I just watched the film)

He's horrible. Maybe Oliver could have taught him some moves when he was around. Zod out fought him. I bet Kara out fights him too.

Clark has so many powers, he should be a litte more resourceful. For example, I'd use his super speed more often, slightly go DBZ on all my foe's asses. He could hit one opponent and send him flying, and in the next second he'd bury his fist in his back.

I'm not sure I can answer this question.

How about I wrestle Clark for a while first, then I'll let you know. :D
