I've been debating with a guy on another forum in which he claims that Clark is a horrible fighter which I completely disagree with. I think that after all of his experiences Clark is at least a little above average as far as being a fighter goes. He also said that Clark's strength would be below average after he becomes powerless but I seriously disagree with that as since Clark still isn't huiman when he's powerless, his body structure should allow him to still be stronger than the average human. So, all in all, I'll rate him as a 7/10 as far as being a fighter goes.

Oh my god when it comes to the Smallville version of Clark fighting he blows.

I mean he just sucks. It's all about his power there is no skill involed here. Even when he is powerless or someone else is as powerful he still sucks.

Clark isn't much of a fighter yet because he hasn't had a enemy exept the phantoms that have made go all out.

Still Superman in general in TV land has never done too well in sexy fighting styles because everyone relys on his power. He is much better in JLA cartoons.

As far as being a brawler goes, Clark is pretty good.

You've got to be kidden me . This version of Clark kent would get his ass owned by His Future Counterpart self SUPERMAN if they fought . Heck I bet if This Clark faced Doomsday in a one on one battle Doomsday would mop the floor with him then kill him.

They could have made him the best fighter on the whole planet if they only wanted to & let him win all of his battles with ease, but that's not the point.

Didn't he do that with Superman already? (or with anyone else for that matter) Regardless of what fighting skills he had? lol.

Yes Doomsday killed Sups, but it was an epic fight (Sups gave it his all) . My point is that this Clark kent has not yet reached his full potential yet . That if he had to face some as powerful as Doomsday in his current state . He wouldn't be able to hold his own for very long .

thats one of the dumbest things I've ever read. ANY pre-Superman Clark kent would get his ass kicked by his future fully realizes Superman self. DUH

Isn't it completely stupid to even compare a Clark Kent who hasn't even become Superman to someone like Doomsday?

Heh. In a word, yes. ;)

If people are going to analyze Clark's fighting ability, they should reference scenes from the show where Clark is evenly matched and Kryptonite isn't involved. Coming up with comparisons that amount to an ant's chances against a sledgehammer is silly.

Powered wins:
Clark beat super-powered Jonathan in Phoenix
Clark beat Tina Greer in Visage
Clark beat Titan in Combat

Depowered wins:
Clark beat the head con in prison while in Lionel's body in Transference
Clark knocked out Lee with a right cross in Mortal

Draws:
Lost against Brainiac in Splinter, but beat him in Solitude
Beat alien Ken and Barbie in Arrival, but lost in Zod

Indeterminate:
Bizarro in Phantom (Bizarro was loosing, but won after being reenergized)
Batista in Static (Aldar was winning, but MM killed him)
Isabelle in Sacred (seemed pretty even until Isabelle resorted to using magic)

Losses:
Zod. Yeah. No contest there. :p

his use of powers and his fighting ability correlate how?

Isn't that obvious? Fighting somebody who doesn't have superpowers is a turkey shoot. It's no contest, and that goes for either side. If Clark is depowered and fights a "normal" human however, his fighting ability can be assessed. Same goes for physically fighting another being when both individuals have superpowers. All of the examples I noted above involve situations where Clark engaged another being of equal or greater power in a physical altercation such as a fist fight.

The impression I get is that Clark is an average fighter, who happens to have superpowers. The use of superpowers don't give a good indication of fighting prowess.

the people who voted 10 seem to be.:o
I'm glad you said "seem to be," because no basis for ability is noted in the poll, just what people think. Some have factored in courage, a component that means squat for Clark's human opponents who don't have a hunk of Green K. in their back pocket or a hell of a lot of "prep time." LOL ;)

Courage? Pfft, it's easy to have courage when you're nigh-indestructable.:o

I was talking about Clark's human opponents. Courage alone for them means squat. LOL

And that's why I emphasized evenly matched adversaries. If both fighters have equal powers (invulnerability, super strength, etc.) then their ability as fighters in hand-to-hand combat against each other can be more accurately assessed.

My mistake.

I disagree, based on what's been presented in the series.
