I Am Doom....discuss me [merged-2]

This is one of things that we will just have to wait and see........

Saph, though I can't speak for theunknowngoat's credibility as a source I think others here would, so if they are certain there is no cape on movie Doom I'd take that info as being far more reliable than any image I saw of any toy (especially a mega-blok one..their toy Thing for instance has a face thats closer to the comics than the movie one)

So you're going to believe some person on a message board more than an official 20th Century Fox Fantastic 4 Merchandise?

Why would they add a cape if its easier and cheaper to leave it?

I should mention, today looked at the Costume dept. Continuity 'bible' and it seem we won't see the Cape and Skirt dealier. Well not exactly anyways afters hes battle damaged his coat does kind of resemble the old costume.

HA! That's what I thought would happen! In some clips in the trailers it looks as if his trench and stuff gets torn up, resembling his traditional costume. Cool.

I would when other regulars here have already spoke to them and it appears are quite willing to vouch for them, and when other merchandise for Doom we've seen, the more realistic action dolls, do not have a cape.

Besides, I have seen nothing in his posts to suggest he is lying at all: there's no ulterior motive, such as building up or winding up going on. They just seem to be stating the facts as they see have seen them.

For the toy in question and not being an expert on such things I couldn't say for sure, the only thing that springs to mind is that they maybe thought it might appeal more to it's target consumer (little kids), or maybe they had some old moulds lying around they figured they could re-use? (remember, they have already done that with the fantasticar toy)

I highly doubt we'll be seeing the cape. If I have to eat my words, I'll be happy

That's a far better summation of what I said earlier about "the power of negative thinking."

Watch that negative thinking, Herr. Especially when you're inside the Infinite Improbability Generator. Real bad sh1t can happen there...

The universe is out to prove me wrong. I use this to my advantage.

What in God's name is the Infinite Probability Generator? Was this something you cooked up? :wolverine

I'm afraid not. That's a creation of Douglas Adams. Great book, BTW. Damn sight better than this movie, tell ya that much.

But... I would know if I was inside it, right?

Right??

Be kind of hard not to, when the buildings on the beach are bobbing and the ocean is stock still. Just shove a babel-fish in your ear, you'll be fine.

DON'T PANIC!

Sass that hoopy RabbitSamurai! There's one frood who knows where his towel is.

It's so hard being a cop...

Does anyone know if the "Reed ending up with Sue and Victor hating Reed" relationship is the ONLY reason Victor will hate Reed or is the "intellectual" rivalry exist too ? From what has been said, it is going to be a variety of issues as to why Victor hates Reed. Only time will tell...

I love the part with the whale in Hitchhiker's Guide. "Where am I? What are these, I think I'll call these fins! What is that thing going by my face? I think I'll call it wind! What is that round thing moving closer? I think I'll call that earth! This is so fun! I'm so happy?" Then of course he hits the ground!

Other toys just show the trenchcoat....so what does that tell you? So many people say "at the last minute he'll wear the cape" or "he'll have the cape in the third act." Let me tell you, if he was meant to have the cape at all, we would have seen it. The hooded green overcoat is going to be it folks. At least they got his mask right...

I believe the college rivalry was mentioned in the last Tim Story interview as being at least mentioned.

The lego toy is supposed to show the third act, and it shows Doom with a cape. They need to make a special mold for cape-wearing lego toys, so if Doom doesn't wear a cape in the movie, then they've spent extra money for no reason. Companies always go the cheapest way out, so the chance of them giving the toy a cape for no reason, when they could just let him stay green with no cape, is impossible to consider.

Saph, I think there are a few very possible reasons why they may have put a cape on their little toy and here's a couple I can think of that might well be likely: 1) As I already suggested they may simply be using an old mold which I would imagine to be even cheaper for them (The toy manufacturers have already done this by recycling an old model of the fantasticar for the movie toys)
and 2) Maybe they designed and modelled the figures before the movie designs were finalised - that would also explain why the head of their Thing resembles the comics look more than the movies look.
Should also note there is a 'Thing Car' thrown in with the toys (complete with a painted rock design) and the Thing in an astronaut suit too, but I dont expect that we are gonna see either of those actually in the film: They will always make toys from these movies that have little or nothing to do with what was really in them.

No, when all the more rendered & accurate action dolls all show no cape, all the pics we have seen of JM in the suit show no cape, and we have an inside source that seems to be credible also state there is none, I do think it's safe to assume there simply is not one.
Seriously, I would love to be wrong about that, as that may harbour some hope we might see a more traditional looking Thing crop up too in that finale, but I do think the evidence against that is a good deal stronger than the evidence for it, which all in all amounts to no more than a picture of a lego toy atm.

Are you really serious? This is hilarious....

Herr: At what point are we going to realize that your so-called bullying-style of posting simply does not impress everyone? Hmmm? When will it sink in that your "taunts" really are actually not creating the feelings of "awe" in others that you are obviously hoping for?

From what I've observed (from Day 1) you seem to be under the distinct impression that your posts are displacing and/or humbling for certain posters in this forum. Perhaps you are getting this idea from some of our younger posters here. I'm not quite sure, but believe me when I say it is quite comical for some the older mainstays to view such attempts to force respect from others.

At any rate, let me put such misinformed thinking to rest--at least in my case: It would be a mistake to put me in that category Herr. Finally (and it's really, really important that you understand this point) whether you choose to actually believe it or not, I honestly--truthfully--don't give a damn if I impress you either. It's just not that deep. And neither is your approach. That's keeping it "gully." ;)

So, that said--how about we divert our energies back to the topic at hand, namely Doctor Doom? :doom:

Lightnin, where did you ever get any solid evidence that I either thought, hoped or expected my more aggressive posts to impress most people, much less "everyone"?

Sorry, bub. For whatever reason, you're projecting your own thoughts onto me, because I never had any intention of impressing the majority of people on these boards. Many younger people have encouraged me in my ongoing crusade for truth, but what has been even more encouraging and inspiring is the praise I've received from people who are older and who have demonstrated comparable intelligence and verbal capacity. I value quality over quantity when it comes to supporters and friends. You think I'm trying to win a popularity contest here? You think I'm trying merely to impress the general population of these boards? If that was the case, don't you think I'd have made a greater effort to suppress my true opinions and attitudes? Well, that ain't gonna happen any time soon. The few people who respect me here are those that do so freely, not because of any "bullying" on my part.

Whether you believe it or not, most of my passionate posts on these boards actually stem from my real-life moral beliefs. When people behave like sheep and give blind devotion to an authority figure who is committing an injustice, that is wrong and I will never keep silent about it just because mine is the unpopular opinion. Maybe you think that the messages given on these boards are completely isolated and only germane to superhero movies, comics and whatever else this board may be about. That's not the case. Everything humans do is connected to a bigger trend. Human behavior is very consistent in a lot of ways. The flaws in people's thinking with regard to these movies and comics are the same basic flaws that keep humanity from reaching their full potential in the real world. I'm sure you've got a smart-aleck remark for all that, and that's fine. I'm not interested in defending my philosophy to people who can't understand it or respect it.

You might want to think a little harder before you assign motives to my actions, Lightnin. As of now, you're way off. :wolverine
