I Am Doom....discuss me [merged-2]

Junior, you should learn to leave others out of your discussions. I've already settled things with those two individuals and don't feel like rehashing old issues with them. On the other hand, your attacks on that thread were anything but how you try and portray them. They were personal, unprovoked, malicious and targeted.

As for lining up our records on the number of personal and unprovoked attacks on individuals you would have more than double the amount I could ever hope to have listed. I've searched through most of your records and gave up count after 100!

Don't talk about it be about it,set up a poll and see who thinks what of whom on here.Perception here is everything,so go on,see who between us has the worst reputation, did it escape your attention the other week when half the forum was in here complaining about how unsavoury you are ?,Go ahead report me,and we will compare, i have no fears do you ?

IMO the trailer was weak and typical. I was hoping this theatrical trailer would bring something new and prove my doubts wrong - unfortunately it didn't.

I wasn't expecting to see anything other than what I've read in my brief encounters with this script - seeing Evans' portrayal of Johnny was a little distracting. He seems he would be more at home in a Fast & Furious sequal than in this role (But, that's partially due to the dialog provided to him) and I didn't like his buzzed haircut.

Although, Doom is portrayed as a renegade and thrown in a 'Hollow Man'/Kevin Bacon role I do think they edited the trailer well enough to stir up some interest. Unfortunately the Star Wars crowd that filled both audiences (I saw it twice) just sat quit and snickered after the FF trailer was shown. The only smile and positive appraisal I found after the trailer were from a grade school kid, two old guys sitting up front and (surprisingly) my girlfriend. LOL

Doom:"We Souldn't fight...."
Sue:"No! Lets!"
......... Unfortunately I was expecting too much from Alba, so instead, I guess I should've expected little, so I'd enjoy it more  . You saw it two times huh? I thought Ep3 delivered. I enjoyed it even though I walked into it knowing exactly how the script was. I could only imagine the impact it had on everyone who didn't read it... but everyone I spoke to said it was their favorite STar Wars movie. I wonder if George put out that piece of crap Phantom Menace on purpose because not only did it make Ep3 look so damn shiny and bright, but it was also a done deal as far as all the butts going and seeing the first StarWars in a long long time..:o something to ponder on....

That's just the kind of childish mentality and logic you use to justify your actions on this thread (and perhaps in real life). It doesn't matter what you do - Only whether or not you can look good. This logic keeps many people guilt free and provides an immoral license to live with hypocracy and fascism. You might want to reconsider your adage before fully joining that club, Junior.

the trailer left me feeling confused there were some really iffy things in it Doom in particular left me quite disapointed not even a hint of an accent Doom with the rocket launcher was pretty cool but then his offices was full of gigantic V's the story sounds weak the only thing that seem right about were the FF themselves and at times it even that seemed awkward I'm hoping for the movie really am but I haven't seen much to give me faith.

Wet and Hunter....

C'mon fellas...let's just get back to Doom. I'm so tired of all of the friction here.

It's May 2005 already. We all know eachother now, as well as our positions on various matters. It's time we start respecting them, and realize that certain views may or may not change--and there's nothing wrong with that. But for all intents and purposes, the storm has passed as far as I'm concerned...so let's let it pass. We have much bigger issues to discuss right now than ourselves and personal foibles.

It's just...tired now guys. Let's move on. Please.

I agree....I spoke for SG because she and I had talked at great length about what happened on the forum yesterday....and I knew exactly what she meant by the post....I didn't realize that WG had no idea what was going on.....I'm not apologizing for what I said....but for the way it came across....I passed this as well....there are things that will never be agreed upon....and some of these things run very deep....but I for one am extremely tired of rehashing things....and actually tired of the whole deal at this point....lets move on....

People have to make their own minds up about who and what people are about on this board....pretty much the only way we can do that is by consistency of posts....so I say we let people make their own minds up.....if they want to read back months ago...fine....if not thats their choice....but lets get back to Doom...and the Fantastic Four MOVIE...

My apologies to Sar for derailing his thread......

Always glad to provide enlightenment...

This looks like it is from that 12 part retro-FF tribute done in their 40th year anniversary, Called "The World's Greatest Comic Magazine" which is a hypothetical story that takes place if Stan and Jack had stayed together after they split up. It was done by a rotating group of guest artists and writers but chiefly was a project put together by Eric Larsen. This looks like the part where Doom got all the power tokens together to b*tch slap Galactus and steal his powers.

finishing the novelization, Doom was one bad*** dude! i know i wouldn't want to cross him. from Julian's line delivery it seems like he will do his role justice, i just hope the air that Doom had around him in the novelization is translated to screen because he was seriously menacing, sinister and down right evil IMO.

No, I don't think so. Sales were rather disappointing. Some fans thought the storyline dragged out too long. I thought it was a lot of fun, in a nostalgic way myself. If I recall, Stan himself scripted the last issue, which he hasn't done for the FF in years. Your best bet is to check around in the back issues bin or eBay. I used to have some of the preview pages stored somewhere on my PC at home, one done by John Romita Sr.

The villiany of Doctor Doom,Stan Lee and John Byrne

Dang! I got knocked out of this forum three times trying to answer this!!!

I actually got this as a birthday present when it came out. Even though I have the back issues, I am starting to collect a lot of trades. (*getting into my geek bag *) I hate having to go through my long boxes and unbag the issues I want to reference again. This is a seminal collection of stories, starting with the Doom origin from FF Annual #2, FF #39-40 guest starring Daredevil and the last Doom storyline that Lee and Kirby did in FF#84-87. Jack became a big fan of Patrick McGoohan's "The Prisoner" and he takes some of his ideas about Latveria from the show. The Byrne stories are from FF#246-247 and recounts how Doom gets the FF to help him regain the throne of Latveria after recovering from his severe mental meltdown in FF#200. This would be a good selection.

This is a tough call. This contains two mini-series that were printed about a year or so apart. The first tells what happens to Doom after he is exiled, naked, back to Franklin's Heroes Reborn planet after helping Reed defeat the Dreaming Celestial in FF#25. I like that Dixon focuses on showing us why Doom is such a formidable force in the MU even without the armor. His opponents, the Atlans are interesting as is the slave trader that captures him in the beginning. But I get the feeling that the story is a bit rushed.

The second set of stories is more uneven and has Doom back on the HR planet trying to bring order to the chaotic nature of the planet. The first issue and a half are terrific but goes downhill when Doom tries to cross the Negative Zone as a shortcut back to Earth Prime. He runs afoul of a devilish Franklin Avatar and the weird throwback pilgrims led by Hellscout. A mixed bag all in all but I do love the scene where Doom coerces Franklin into turning over control of the reality engine. He is at once wickedly persuasive and yet strangely more human that he is during Mark Waid's FF.

The Micheline stories from the Iron Man title are a lot of fun and makes me wish that Marvel's most famed armored characters would bump into each other more often. There was a brief meeting between the two during the recent Avengers before Bendis took over but not much since. The Iron Man stories are neat time travel tales. The first takes place in the past, putting both in the court of King Arthur while the second takes place about 100 years in the future. Their original plan was to have yet a third time travel tale but it never came to pass.

By all means, you should find a copy (most like second hand on eBay since it is long out of print) of Roger Stern's Doctor Strange/Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment. This is probably the best Doom story ever IMO. A surprisingly sympathetic portrayal yet it does not compromise his status as Marvel's most feared supervillain.

A while back on another FF MB, I wrote a little essay a couple of years ago on the story from the first Doom solo series that served as the inspiration for Roger Stern's graphic novel. If you click on the link, be warned that I am just as long-winded there as I can be here! This story, called "Though Some May Call it Magic" is also collected in Marvel Essentials: Super-Villain Team-Up, another fun TPB you may want to get since it features Doom's solo series in Astonishing Tales and SVTU, plus a few bonus stories.

You are welcome and I am glad to help. I remember reading that story when it was first printed and thought it was pretty amazing myself. IIRC, it came out a bit before Stan left the FF but he was still doing a lot of editor work on all the other titles (this was before Roy Thomas was brought in to help out). Of course, the writer was Gerry Conway and as I noted he currently works on TV scripts. But the story really added a whole new dimension to Doom's character.

After Jack Kirby, I thought Gene Colan was the only other Silver Age artist who gave Doom that certain regal look that evolved over the years. Though brief, the story really stands out even today.

Imo, if you are a bit of a newbie to Dr. Doom, i'd recommend the Doom tpb by Chuck Dixon first. It's cooler, and newer, and it will make you love Doom the moment you will read it. ;)

And then, go and dig in the older stuff, which are even better, imo, but which you will appreciate even more if you begin by this one.

At least, that's how I got two of my friends to fall for Doom, because I can bet my right hand that if I had began by older stuff, they would have never fell for him in the first place.

Oh, and do not miss to read (either by ordering them on milehighcomics.com, or on ebay, or by downloading them) the Doom 2099 storyline by Warren Ellis (issue 26-39), it is, imo, the best Doom run there is.

Can anyone tell me where the hell Doom's legs are?

He seems to be lunging forward, with his left leg behind him. Its at an angle and rather out of proportion, but still rather striking.

That's a horrible-looking poster, and not in the way that Dr. Doom should look horrible..
