I Am Doom....discuss me [merged-2]

So Langoth what do you think about Doom?????

Having played through the F4 video game, and now seen all this, I can say the current incarnation of Dr. Doom utterly unimpresses me.

I don't like the character, not even as a villain, I find him very boring to be entirely honest.

Can you be more specific on what you don't like about him?

I'm not a fanboy for the record, I believe in strong plots, and I just don't see him as a strong character behind a strong plot.

Even with all the changes to Doctor Doom, if he was an interesting, grabbing character, I'd be more inclined to say he was alright, or good, ect ect.

But I just don't see it. I want the movie to do well, make no mistake, but *this* Doctor Doom, is just not relaly doing it for me.

He seemed dull to be blunt. I didn't find him gripping at all, and his storyline seems rather dry.

There is no huge reason like "Its not doctor doom! Grrrr!" there is not "Its not canon!" Its-

"I don't like this character because he's just not interesting, and as far as movie villains go, does not stand out to me at all"

Well being a fan who understands what it's like to have his fav villain,a Doctor too ;),to be changed dramatically I sympathise.

Langoth who did you find more interesting-Doc Ock or Dr Doom???

Your still being pretty vague but okay.

i gotcha you'll get no argument from me....

Because the specific reason is simple-

Every time I see him, there isn't anything I can really pick out that is interesting.

I don't like characters THAT AREN'T INTERESTING. When I say he's dull, I mean he's dull, I mean he's boring. I mean that he's just an uninteresting character.

For there to be a specific reason is hard to pick out, because NOTHING stands out.

I could at least pick out things about Doc Oc that made him interesting. From what I've sene of Doom, its just really not interesting. Its lackluster.

They dramatically changed Doc Ock, yes, and I don't care that they did, because I could at least grab onto somethings and go "that is interesting" or "How cool" Even from the video game (which I played before the movie)

But, in this case, there IS nothing to grab onto, there IS nothing that is overwhelmingly cool or interesting. Thats where the problem lies.

The movie Doom is nothing more than a blend of recent villians such as the Green Goblin and the Kevin Bacon character from Hollowman. Like the Green Goblin, this Doom exhibits his current character only after suffering an accident. This Doom shares more similarities with the movie Goblin than he does with the comic Doom. How pathetic is that?

As with Doom, the Hollowman character was motivated in part by rejection and then directed his violence on the third member of the love triangle. Both characters go on a rampage.

Doom has been stripped of any real motivations resembling the original source. Doom is only one example of how these characters have been mishandled. Unfortunately, the damage done to Doom has major repercussions throughout this project.

Yea, I thought his motive was the worst.

Green Goblin was a side effect....Doom is Doom. The love triangle sucks. I am not defending that.

DINO was an accepted member of society and the FF members before being mutated. Which gives him a history with a persona that is 100% contrary to what he then becomes. It is only after he is bombared by the cosmic rays that he becomes, "Doctor Doom". There is a split personality with DINO. The comic Doom was always Doom even before his college accident!

There is no split personality sorry. Granted...he doesn't become Dr. Doom until he becomes mutated but he has always been evil. He is evil long before he gets his powers.

However, this childish namecalling would not occure without outside parties, prodding him into it. It doesn't really make a lot of sense to me, that he's the only one getting punished...

That's like an 10 year old saying, "But my 5 year old sister/brother made me do it". It really wasn't necessary. You have to admit that at times he goes at lengths to insult someone because he doesn't like what they say.It wasn't even a tiny insult it was very rude.

And i will not say "fanboys" around here anymore.

Kel, i'm officially dropping it(just had to get my last word in) and getting into my Fav. character and actor, Doom/Julian.

It's funny...i used to watch all the 90's Superhero cartoons and i can't remember Doom in the F4 cartoon. I was more interested in Batman and Spiderman but still...Does anyone know if he was frequently featured?

Excuse me sir, but if you hadn't noticed, the world tends to work in this way-

You screw with someone, you get screwed WITH.

I know, its not very nice, its immature, and its low, but its also human nature as a whole. And I admit sometimes Logan does go a little too far, but that doesn't stop the fact that he often gets prodded into it. Every time I honestly see the "fanboy" comments, not just on this forum, but on all of them, I get quite mad, because Fanboy is an insult used to belittle OTHERS of their opinion.

Oh hey, wait, thats exactly what you acuse LOGAN of, how interesting. So its ok, for others to belittle HIS opinion, but he's not allowed to belittle others? Is that what you're trying to say?

i like Herr and i respect him but in this instance telling a 16 yearold girl to "piss off herd animal" is much worse than any fanboy insult,i agree he gets pushed at times but I think he went to far on this one,
Herr if you read this and want to talk about it PM me as i think you can still do that even on probation

There are several more viewer reviews up at IMDb, most of them highly positive, and, with regards to Doom, this comment particularly appealed to me:

For this film, Julian M. was subtle yet powerful. He wasn't a cartoon bad guy, but a real bad guy. The kind you've met before who will shake your hand and look you in the eye while he's sticking a knife in your back. His relationship with Sue is creepy and it really defines his character. Everyone in the audience can see that he doesn't even understand what love is. To him, love is possession. Toward the end, he becomes truly frightening, but it's not a jump like some villains. You could see the evil smoldering below the surface from his first on-screen moment.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120667/usercomments?filter=chrono

This is exactly what I had hoped for. Not some scenery chewing villain who suddenly becomes a nut case but, as Julian has been saying over and over in interviews, a gradual and believable progression to wickedness.

Iron Maiden, I love your pictures and agree entirely with your comments.

Oh finally someone who know's i'm a female:)

Onlooker i love that review. That's exactly the vibes that are coming off of in clips and in the book Victor is just really horrible. He doesn't understand love and that could very well be from the influence of his childhood. In this one Julian doesn't deserve the girl...or Victor doesn't deserve Sue.

Oh hey, wait, thats exactly what you acuse LOGAN of, how interesting. So its ok, for others to belittle HIS opinion, but he's not allowed to belittle others? Is that what you're trying to say?

I didn't really know the full term of "fanboys" and i already admitted in a previous post that i was wrong. Now i think this argument has been ran over and killed. No one should belittle anyone especially people you don't even know. That's my end now please just end it.

well i don't know how you feel about this but the hot tip right now is David O Russel
There's no comparison between David O Russel and Baz Luhrman. Although I'm not all that fond of 0.I Love Huckabees, I can notice and respect the kind of personality that shows in his films. Personally, I loved Three Kings as well as Flirting with Disaster however.

The only one ive seen is Three Kings which i enjoyed, however he isnt on my list of directors i want to do Silver Surfer and from the film ive seen of his coupled with the trailers for his other movies i don't see anything that suggests he is the right guy for the job,I also wonder if he really fits with arad's comments about the guy they have in mind being "an amazing visualist"

Well, Herr Logan is now an official SHH convicted outlaw..... I once again feel like Jimmy Conway in Goodfellas again, you know, rooting for the bad guy, feeling proud of them and stuff..... I just hope he's learned two things while he's in SHH county jail: 1) To Keep his mouth shut; and 2) Never rat on his friends. :o
I'll be sure to sneek him in as many cartons of cigs and gourmet foods while he's in there; plus to keep everything under props on the outside so his friends and family don't get rubbed by one of Herr's many enemies....
:)
