Any possibility that Kebbell was just taking the proverbial out of the internet?

I understand why they didn't change Doom gender now, maybe Kristen Bell wasn't available for the role of Gossip Doom...

Any possibility that Kebbell was just taking the proverbial out of the internet?

Maybe, but with this productions history I think any statements claiming a massive deviation from the source material are more likely to be taken seriously than with other productions so basically even if a member of the cast/production says it ironically/tongue in cheek etc then its going to make waves.

At this moment they could reveal that Galactus is going to appear but that he is actually just a massive parade balloon that people have mistaken for an alien entity and I can honestly say that I wouldnt automatically discount the prospect.

I think it have been a better idea to save Doom for a sequel and have a lesser FF foe fill this role (heck Mad Thinker already seems like something of a hacker, I remember him setting up dummy e-mail accounts under false names in the 90s). Plus going straight to Doom again seems too much like what they did with the 2005 film.

Though I suppose in this film, Doom will have to trade in his armor for a Cheetos stained Thundercat shirt.

Doom is a lesser FF foe now though. He's no longer a fearsome dictator but an anti social internet blogger. The change in this thread's title shows how far he has fallen. Now all he can do is hope to challenge some mods because no one else will take him seriously.

This is what's so unbelievably frustrating. If they knew going into this that the villain was going to be the generic loser Kennel describes, why not use the Mad Thinker or Wizard or something?

We know Fox is dumb, but wasting one of the greatest comic book characters like this is beyond dumb.

Think about it: Superman, Bat man, Spider-Man, Dr. Doom - he's right up there. Certainly in the top ten of all time greatest characters.

They could always have used Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay Doom:

:p

Would people rather have had Ashley as Doom looking like the above, or Kebell as Blogger Doom?

And I suppose Latveria is going to be the name of his town in SimCity?

First off, this is awesome to see this thread back...I had such fun interacting with everyone (despite the outcome of the 2 movies)...

With that said, hopefully the old adage holds true...third times a charm and we will get an incredible F4 movie.

Now with that out of the way, let us start with the ultimate villain in all of comicdom, Dr. Victor Von Doom aka Dr. Doom.

We know that he was in the other 2 movies but c'mon...that was embarrassing as it could be...with that said, I think whether Doom appears in movie 1 or 2, it matters not...I think its safe to say the following criteria MUST be done in order to have a competent, memorable Doom on the big screen that could even scare Thanos :)

So let's take these one by one and see how these criteria have been fulfilled in this new film version. :p

*Born a gypsy

Born a hobo

*Homeland is Latveria/Ruler of Latveria/Castle

Homeland is his mother's basement, or virtual Latveria when he's online.

*Mix or science and sorcery

Mix of programming and blogging.

*Devotion to mother

Check. Well he lives in his mother's basement.

*Absolute hatred of Richards

Well with Reed's *****e face, who wouldn't?

*Comic book classic look (the whole thing)

Dark Elves mask, aluminium foil suit and scarf wrapped around his head.

*Booming voice, with accent or at least hint of accent

Kebell's trying to do something with the voice.

*Robotic army

Army of bots.

*Bonus if they give him faithful Boris as his assistant

Domaschev has Paperclip as his assistant.

*Truly believes his vision for the world is best

Truly believes the virtual world of Latveria is best.

*Show his ambitious nature of wanting to conquer Earth/universe

Shows his ambitious nature of wanting to conquer teh interwebs.

:p :oldrazz:

but but but This means Doom does not have diplomatic immunity This is an important part of his character and the main reason Fantastic Four can not defeat him a complete defeat and put him in prison

Is there a way to pay NOT to see a movie?

But at least, as a genius programmer, he has virus immunity on the internet. :oldrazz:

Fox won't mind if you do that. Pay but not go see it anyway. They still get your money. :o

This. This just goes to show how clueless Fox really is when it comes to figuring out how to handle this property. Doom is one of Marvel's most iconic characters. How do you screw this up? At least when Marvel fooled around with the Mandarin they were working with a pretty crummy character anyway. And despite that they still are dangling the "real" Mandarin.

Does this mean that there's a real Dr. Doom out there? If so I'm sure he's not amused by this poser posting on Reddit.

LOL @ Blogger Doom.

So much of this movie just sounds awful. I'm honestly not sure that a Fantastic Four movie can work that well onscreen anyway, but going "dark" and "realistic" with it just feels so wrong. I think you can get away with that approach with some characters; Batman, Daredevil, even Superman... but the Fantastic Four? Really?

And turning one of the coolest supervillains of all time into an irate blogger? What's the point of that? So dorks like Devin Faraci can feel that they'll someday be relevant?

I know you shouldn't judge a movie until you've at least been given a trailer, but this just seems like one of those cases where the studio is so desperate to differentiate from the previous incarnation that they're going to miss the mark entirely.

FTFY :oldrazz:

I believe word on the street is that Domashev creates Latveria while playing Minecraft. I know I'm not supposed to post this kind of stuff but I came across this recent leaked photo from the set and couldn't resist:

All that green screen work is to recreate a computer virtual world which Latveria will be set in. It won't matter if it doesn't look completely realistic at all but lower res graphics because it's just an online game. That's one way to get away with not having to spend the money on realistic sets or even realistic CGI.

Virtual Latveria is where the battle between super nerd gamers Reed Richards and Victor Domaschev will take place.

Hahaha - hey what happened to that Awkward FF Moment poster with the game controllers? That totally makes sense now.

Lol, I guess it does:

Was that a good prediction on my part when I made this or what? :oldrazz:

Of course you can make a F4 movie...in fact it should be one of the easiest comics to adapt...keep them celebrities...keep them scientists...keep them family above all...a typical day for them should be going to the negative zone or going in space etc...Doom can be translated to the screen...his iconic look would not need updating, his origin can be hinted at in terms of mystery etc and would add more suspense to just who is Victor Von Doom and how come he commands such a large army and why the citizens of Latveria love him even though he demands obedience etc....

and for the record, since this thread was my creation, how long must I put up with the MODS name in the place of GODS LOL....

It really saddens and annoys me that with all the attention Marvel's C and D listers are getting we cannot get a proper version of Marvel's greatest villain. The positive flipside of this abortion is that it will be nothing like the real thing so if Marvel ever does get the rights back they can try again - hopefully with little to no association with what Fox has done.

The best thing to hope for is that this film flops so colossally that it is not even a blip on the public consciousness - because the more these characters are tainted the less likely it is that Marvel will use them down the road. Look at Spider-Man - by the time Sony is done with him he will be nothing more than a used up carcass. Look at the way Sony squandered the Gwen Stacy storyline just like Fox squandered the Dark Phoenix Saga, the Galactus Trilogy and probably at least 3 or 4 other classic stories.

If this FF reboot is largely ignored then I think it's less of an issue for Marvel to salvage the pieces. We were lucky with Daredevil that Marvel got him back before Fox tainted him further with a shoddy adaptation of Born Again.

If Marvel ever does get the rights then I believe the best thing they could do for Dr. Doom is give him his own movie with his true origin along the lines of something like Brubaker's Books of Doom. However, because Fox will have overexposed him now - 3 times in a row - if it ever happens it will probably be a long way down the road.

As long as Doom keeps blogging on teh interwebs. :p

Question:

- Would anyone have been okay if Doom's origin's had changed in the comics by having him be a military general in Latveria only to seize power via military coup?
