I have to ask

superman is especially vulnerable to magic. doesnt he get cap marvel to help him out when he encounters a magical foe? i dunno, dont read the adventures of supergod

loki, superman is vulnerable to magic

Loki would probably win. But whenever your talking about superheros versus villians, the hero always finds a way to win. It's a simply fact.

but if both were being mind-controlled by a pair of greater villains? (i know this barely affects loki's status - he stays a villain- but i have to try and be fair across the board here :))

plus superman isnt allowed any help. in his comics he gets help, but in these match-ups we assume not...

I've seen him fight a few magical beings by himself and still manage a victory. Hell, he fought in Ragnarock for 1,000 years along side wonderwoman. Even wielded the DCU's version of Miljor after Thor died. From what I've seen the Magic vunrablity thing is overrated.

I don't know. He once attacked the Spectre with the spear of destiny(Spectres biggest weakness) and Spectre just wrapped him up in his cape and took him on a magical mind trip and left curled up in a fetal position. Supes in pretty much out of his league against magic!

what? is this canon? Supes is over a thousand years old??

It's Canon. Is Supes over a thousand years old? I don't know. When you're talking about magic realms, does time really work the same way it does in the real world? Who knows.

Ah, that may be true, but, Loki isn't exaclty in the same league as the Spectre now is he?

He's pretty magical just the same and Superman isn't armed with his greatest weakness is he?

Maybe I'm bias, but my feeling is that being a God who masters in trickery, Loki would probably confuse and frustrate Superman to a breaking point. But of course if Superman got his hands on him Loki would be in trouble, then again that is what Loki is all about, trouble. How would the battle go down?

That's what I'm saying. It's not an easy match. Supes can take a lot of punishment. I mean, the thing that people always point to when referring to Supes and magic is the Kingdom Come Captain Marvel fight. Now, yes, he did get messed up pretty bad, but, he hit Supes like 10 to 15 times with Seven bolts of mystical lightning. And Supes still won that fight. Anybody else woulda died after the first hit. Second hit tops. Now I'm not saying Supes would beat Loki. I still voted for Loki. But, I wouldn't say Supes would get pwned easily either. He stands a pretty good chance of winning because of all his other abilities.

He's a thousand years older mentally, but not physically. At the end of the story, he and Diana were returned to the time and place, just before Thor came to pick them up to take to Asgard. Was a pretty cool story to boot.

^ but thats shocking to me. like when angel was sent to a hell dimension for a couple of weeks out time but hundreds of years HIS time. you cant just throw that sort of stuff around. that should have totally changed who supes was. even the most unchangable would have to change over 1000 YEARS!! at least in buffy joss whedon handled angel pretty well with the breakdown and all..

anyway i cant critisize, i must read it first. issue numbers? is it in trade? etc.

It's in the Superman: No Limits trade.

It was basically a story to show how much he loved Lois. The battles were great and all, but the real point of it was that, throughout all that time, he never once banged Wonder Woman, even after he forgot Lois' name and what she looked like, he still didn't cheat. Take from that what you will. Some people think he's an idiot because he didn't take advantage. I think he did the right thing. He's a better man than me, I woulda plowed her after about a week.

^lol. thats what i mean though. if its canon did they show him rebuilding his relationship with lois again? like, yknow, remembering her name again?lol.

its not only stupid, it's unrealistic. after leaving for 1000years he'd have to assume she was dead. if he forgot her name he'd forget his love and if wonder woman OFFERED it. well... thats just the most damned unrealistic thing ever.

Well, he did know that, whenever it was over he'd go back to the time before he left. So, he'd get back to her eventually.

He did however take her straight home and got busy immediately because he spent 1000 years without getting any nookie.

Loki would most likely win due to Supes' magic vulnerability, but the story would have Superman win somehow.

I'd feel VERY bad for those villains once they break free of the control.

Loki prefers using trickery and deception but he's still an Asgaurdian God and he's gone toe to toe with his half brother Thor in the past and he could hold his own with Superman. Combine his strength with his magic and there is no way Superman should win, but of course in comics the writers will find a way for the hero or the more popular character to win.

seriously someone close this one-sided thread. i feel sorry for ol' supes :(
