I hope Lionsgate loses the Punisher rights back to Marvel.

^ That's my hope. The only studio it would go to though is Marvel. Marvel's not the same "desperate for cash" company from the late 1990's where they had to sell the rights to survive.

Well if it goes to Marvel theres also a good chance it will be started from scratch and we have to yet even more which would suck. The Punisher is fine at LGF but it just needs a little more cash for the budget. But sadly yeah it seems LGF is thinking about if they even wanna do a sequel.

^ Well don't forget LGF is working on the webste and they did open up or apply for permits for pre-production offices in Louisiana a few months back. I'm sure LGF will do it anyways.

Its not even scary...I just dont get it...unless you like boobs (which is why god invented porn) I cant see whats so great about hostel....

I agree that Hostel isn't scary and for me it doesn't get really good until we start seeing the people getting tortured. What I like about the movie is the sickness of it all. That deep down anyone could do this to somebody. But we're getting off subject here with this.

Sort of...its talk about the director someone wanted for the punisher 2...I just felt Saw did it better than hostel for that real sick feeling...

No news is just bad news...and it gets worse the longer we have to wait

Saw definitely blows Hostel away in the sick department. I agree on the no "official" news stuff. I don't know why people would be excited if the rights revert back to Marvel. It doesn't mean they would even do another movie, seeing as how it didn't do stellar numbers at the Box Office. They'd be more than likely to shelve it.

CGI isn't the only thing that increases your budget. Good talent, better location, better sets, better props, etc... Even the opening credits were done "on the cheap" to save room for the movie. I loved The Punisher as a fan but it deserved more money. I'm not saying 100 million and I'm not saying CGI...I"m saying write the proper script, hire the proper talent, and pay what it takes to film it.

What I feel it deserves was a good script and an actor who became The Punisher in front of me and in my opinion it had neither. At the end of the day what should have happened is the LGF should've found someone capable of translating this story. Many mighty movies are made every day for under $20 million.
The film doesn't root itself in space or require monster make up with grandiose spfx. It is a character driven film with action. Thomas Jane might not be the most known actor but why go for someone known at all? B.Singer's doing it today with SR and that budget is fatter than the donkeys who flamed my posts. The casting could've been done differently. I need someone uglier and thicker to be Punisher. Jane is a teddy bear and I cannot buy him as Punisher ever. Want a laugh, hear him do some awful script reading in the video game titled 'Gun'. Anywho, sure it'll proceed with him and when it hits Rogers Direct Video I'll watch it.

According to Amazon, it is released statesside on DVD July 25. It's not a great movie, but it brings about interesting issues and is highly disturbing at the same time!......

although the movie could have been better, I dont think punisher was a bad movie. LG didnt do a bad job IMO. If punisher 2 is a disaster, then ill want the rights to go back to marvel.

I love horror and seen some real stinkers that I loved, so I'll definitely rent it when it hits dvd here.

The thing we all have to remember is that Lionsgate didn't make the movie. They bought Artisan which was known for cheap movies when the movie was done with production. All LGF had to do was promote the movie, which they did great I believe. I saw commercials for it all the time. What they did wrong was thing it could take on the hack pop culture crap of QT.

That doesn't mean it will though. The rights can go to Marvel but also marvel could sell the rights to a whole different movie company. Like Paramount or New Line. Just because Marvel would have the rights if they wanted it back doesn't mean they won't sell it to another brand.

Marvel has there own movie studio now with Paramount distributing, so there is no reason for Marvel to resell their properties to other studios.

Haha I've been out of the loop on Marvels movies for a while haha.

Even if they do have their own studio, anything can happen with whoever they have writing, adapting, acting or directing it. It comes down to a number of factors, not just the studio.

But in the end they have the final say.

But it doesn't stop the countless Director's Cuts on DVDs or a Director fighting for what they want. No matter how one puts it, it's one big system that has countless variables. Even with the studio. Let's not forget the Producers, who are actually paying for the movies and adding to the decisions made.

The Producers are Marvel. It's Marvels money. They have all the say in the final product. The only thing Paramount does is slap it's name on it and pay for distribution and advertising. It's no different than George Lucas and his power over FOX with the Star Wars movies.

Marvel won't be selling movie rights to anyone anymore. Think of them like Pixar but with a helluva lot more content to draw from.

Marvel is one of the Producers. One of two companies involved with the productions - Lions Gate being the studio, that is actively involved with distribution of the film. Both are sharing the costs of the production and making the final product.

i hope the movie stays with LGF just cuz if they drop it, it will take forever to make another punisher movie and we might lose tom jane.
