I Would...But I Know Where The Wrestling Thread Has Been

They should book him like WCW booked Dean Malenko early on. A submission specialist who can make a guy tap at any moment.

They certainly need someone to fill that void of a great technical wrestler and Bryan could do that. WWE has been missing a REALLY good one for a long time since Regal seems to be part time, Angle left, Malenko retired, and Benoit...y'know. I miss seeing matches like that.

Benoit killed himself....let's not bulls*** here, I expect better from you Metallo

I liked it....goes back to the days when guys wore robes to the ring...and yea Mark Henry should have been doing this like forever...just tossin' fools

Couple Smackdown thoughts:

-I officially hate the character of Teddy Long. He is such a bias GM in favor of the faces, and that is absolute backwards booking. Giving favorable treatment to superstars is a heel GM trait. But letting Randy Orton get away with random RKO's on superstars who didn't attack him, and then punishing the victim's partner, when he made a heel Christian jump through so many hoops to get his legitimate title shot, is absolutely ridiculous. I can't stand Teddy Long's character.

-If Zack Ryder has to be on TV, I'm glad it's in a minor role, so that I could possibly grow into liking him. I did chuckle at "Zackdown".

I've always disliked Teddy Long but to his credit he's the longest running GM and I like that sort of consistency.

are they still doing the anonymous RAW GM thing, now that Triple H has an onscreen presence as the COO?

teddy needs to give the "surprise tag match announcements" a rest

Memphis Wrestling took Lord Humongous lock stock and barrel from The Road Warrior and didn't even try to hide it. Lawler really had no shame. :funny:

Who was under the gimmick?

I actually got to play WWE '12 at an Xbox press event yesterday. I have to say, I was really impressed.

I felt like I had the hang of the basic controls in only one match--something I couldn't say for the last Smackdown vs. Raw game I played. The game feels like a mix of the SvR controls and the oldschool, N64-era controls. You tap A to grapple up, then hit a direction on the right stick to perform a move.

I played as CM Punk and put down the THQ guy I was playing (though I figure he may have been going easy on me, haha).

Reverals are easier (one button to reverse either grapples or strikes) and there's a comfortable number of context-sensitive prompts to keep you informed as to what your options are.

I also have to point out that the new pinning mechanic is cool--rather than mashing buttons aimlessly when pinned, pinning works like active-reloading in Gears of War. You press the button while in the blue zone to kick out--and the blue zone gets smaller and smaller depending on how good a beating you've taken.

The animations are a lot smoother and more natural, and the matches play a lot faster with less time spent on the mat. All things considered, if I can sit down and have a fun match with a wrestling game I've never played before, I think they've got something good on their hands. The learning curve is much easier.

This sounds promising, especially the part in bold. :D

I read that Ted had recorded stuff for the documentary portion and its supposed to be out at the end of the year so I think its a lock.

Its a must buy for me. TMMD was by far one of the best villains of the 80's Right up there with Piper and Flair as far as I'm concerned. Brilliant gimmick by Vince and an even more brilliant performer.

Agreed, one of the all time great heels and workers, I remember in a shoot Ted said he was convinced to sign for WWF over JCP before he knew what gimmick they were going to give him as Vince wouldn't tell him in case he didn't sign and it got leaked for another promoter to use, but Pat Patterson told him that the gimmick was the one Vince would use himself if he was a wrestler.

I didn't really pick up any insider stuff but man when he was bragging about the NWO it really did sound like the tired ramblings of an old man thinking back to his ancient faded glory. I think I even said so that very night on the thread. I half expected Nash to waive his cane and say "BACK IN MY DAY...!"

Punk was cutting edge that night and Nash sounded SO stale. I think they should have tried to educate people on Nash that night during the show. Maybe do some highlight spots between segments to lead up to his return that night. I mean most of the kids at Raw that night weren't even alive when the NWO formed.
The only thing I could think of was the indierific waffle house short order cook jab, alluding to the inside view that Punk was too small, didn't have the look and was "king of the indies" as Steph liked to call him, not sure how many casual fans would get that.

That is exactly what they should have done, instead of having hype videos for Rey that simply led up to his loss, they should have had videos chronicling Nash's career and showing the controversies he's been involved in.

I think he needs to just be a bodyguard/muscle. The Rumble protected him and kept from showing how worn down he is. Punks a great wrestler but I don't envy him having to carry a 50 plus year old seven footer with sawdust for knees.

If they did have a match it could only be one or maybe two. Punk doesn't need to waste to much time on Nash. he needs to steadily move forward and keep his momentum on his quest for the truth and to get back to the title eventually. He needs to go over Nash in a BIG WAY fairly soon. Otherwise its WWE Impact.
Punk vs Nash of 15 or maybe even 10 years ago could have worked great, I could see Punk doing nearly as well with him as HBK and Bret did in the mid 90's, but now? long night for Punk. Once the feud is over he'd be ideal as muscle for the COO, and if they brought X Pac in I could even see him have a tag title run to boost the division.

To go over Nash I think he can do so by tapping him out, and that will look good and really register a submission finisher for him, as there's no way he's going to give Nash the GTS. I'd personally prefer he made the Koji clutch is submission finisher than the Anaconda Vice.

I think with the older guys who were around to experience Hogans politicking firsthand thats true but to the younger guys they probably still see him as fans to a degree. But of course some of those younger guys became fans or wanted to get into the business because of guys like Hart and Michaels because its clear many strive to be what they were instead of trying to be the next Hogan...well...except for Cena. Older stars like Booker and Regal probably have legit gripes with Hogan. The only guy there now under 35 who can have a legitimate dislike of Hogan is Randy Orton...and rightly so. He had to job too the old bastard and that didn't help him at all.

I do think HHH has probably done his fair share of badmouthing of Hogan. They are cut from the same cloth afterall. Difference is at the end of the day WWE HHH is probably more concerned with looking out for the company while Hogan was always concerned with looking out for himself first.
To be honest I don't think anyone needs to poison the younger guys against Hogan, they just need to listen to one of his self agrandizing radio interviews. :funny:

It finally died a death so quiet that half this thread and most of the WWE universe have yet to notice.

They just randomly dropped it. A year of dealing with that nonsense and no payoff. good one... wwe.

Looking great! I knew when I saw them come out in those outfits that they'd have been doing a shoot backstage for WWE.com, but I'll never understand why Vince, the king of big is better, doesn't release these pics in HQ instead of in this tiny format.

- As noted before, the August 15th WWE RAW did a 3.27 cable rating and 5.04 million viewers. In comparison, the New York Jets vs. Houston Texans NFL preseason game did a 3.71 rating with 4.97 million viewers. RAW this week was the sixth highest rated show on cable for the night.

What's not good about this week's ratings are that the second hour plus the overrun averaged 380,000 less viewers than the first hour. RAW's second hour normally does better since viewers know to tune in at 10pm and 11pm for the main event. Here is the segment breakdown.

The opener with Triple H and then Alberto Del Rio did a 3.73 rating, the high point of this week's show. R-Truth vs. John Morrison in the Falls Count Anywhere match lost 817,000 viewers - one of the worst declines of any match all year.

The Miz's Subway segment gained 225,000 viewers while Kelly Kelly & Eve Torres vs. The Bella Twins lost 52,000 viewers. Kevin Nash's interview and segment with CM Punk gained 556,000 viewers in the 10pm slot, which is about average.

Alex Riley vs. Jack Swagger lost 619,000 viewers, which is worse than usual. Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne vs. David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty lost another 412,000 viewers. The main event for the WWE Title with Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio gained 763,000 viewers, bringing the overrun to a 3.41 rating.

- As noted before, former WWE Champion CM Punk recently appeared on Mark Madden's radio show in Pittsburgh. Madden asked Punk if he was headed for a feud with Triple H and if he was, could he escape that feud "undamaged."

"That's a fantastic question," Punk said. "And I'm not so sure that's where we're headed. I guess that's the $64,000 question. Everybody immediately assumes based on past experiences and past TV shows that this is what's going to happen. 'Punk's going to get buried.' That's one of those things, Mark, I hate to give you this answer but you have to wait and see. Is there a way I can escape that undamaged? Absolutely. Unless we're doing things we were doing 10 years ago and we don't really care about the future of the business. Because let's be honest, the future of the business is in jeopardy right now. If we want to make the same mistakes, then I'm obviously speaking out against it. But if we do make those same mistakes, I don't know if there's going to be a business in 30 years."

"What I'd like to have right now, is for all you fat, out of shape, (insert city) sweathogs, to keep the noise down while I take my robe off and show all the ladies what a real man looks like. Hit the music!"

I like that too. Granted I'm tired of the authority figure being used so much in general but at least Teddys a face. The evil heel authority figure got old almost ten years ago.

Who was under the gimmick?

The Millennium Man! The Master and Ruler of The World!

You mean the ones where Andre gains an extra 100 pounds every time? :cwink:

Vince doesn't run WWE.com.

Most of the company decisions go through him though. For a guy who micro manages everything you think he doesn't at least have people that report to him on the website? I swear the agents can't take a sh** without Vince being informed.

:funny: I thought that looked like big old Sidney's mullet perm!

Vince doesn't run WWE.com.

Everything goes through Vince, if he wanted HQ Diva pics, we'd have them.

Not a huge surprise, the two top guys in the show who have been the main focus for the weeks leading into Summerslam were not in the main event. Instead it was an out of nowhere champion in a match he's had a dozen times on TV already.

The opener with Triple H and then Alberto Del Rio did a 3.73 rating, the high point of this week's show. R-Truth vs. John Morrison in the Falls Count Anywhere match lost 817,000 viewers - one of the worst declines of any match all year.
Could be bad for JoMo, but I personally think it's a case of Truth being like Santino, people like his crazy, funny promos, but no one is that bothered about seeing him wrestle.
Alex Riley vs. Jack Swagger lost 619,000 viewers, which is worse than usual. Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne vs. David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty lost another 412,000 viewers. Damn! those two matches lost over a million viewers between them.

Maybe I am being too optimistic but I think Punk vs Triple H will happen and I think Triple H will do what is right for the business.

Oh Brooke Adams...hate to see her go but love to watch her leave.

I notice most of the Extreme Expose girls love doing the stinkface. wonder if that was some kind of pact?

Bret Hart On His Relationship With HBK, Randy Savage & Owen Not Being In HOF
By Daniel Pena
Aug 19, 2011 - 10:22:31 PM

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart spoke with WrestlingVoice.net promoting his upcoming tour of Ireland with American Wrestling Rampage. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

His relationship with Shawn Michaels: “I suspected from the very beginning that me and Shawn, our handshake, would be more BS than anything else and that we were still going to loath each other and hate each others guts for the rest of our lives, but the truth is that he was very humbled and grateful that I was willing to forgive everything and the reality is we were able to become good friends since then. Knowing that it really meant something to him, meant something to me and we actually have a really good friendship now.

"I think Shawn was always a bit of a prima donna and I didn’t think he’d be sincere when he shook my hand and the gratification I get over a few weeks and months after that, you could really see it was a weight lifted of his back and he seemed appreciative and grateful that we could be on good terms again.”

His match with Vince McMahon and his in-ring performances since then: “I thought it was perfect, I loved having my family out there, I loved having my brothers and sisters play the lumberjacks and I think fans got what they wanted even though it wasn’t the old Bret Hart, but the truth is I’m never gonna be that Bret Hart, the technical wrestler, I’m basically gonna be more of a character for the rest of my career, my days of taking suplexes and diving over the top rope are over.”

Harry Smith’s recent release: “It’s unfortunate, but these things happen, you might look at it as a setback but you might look at it as a blessing in disguise, I think he’s a great talent, but needs to reinvent himself and by stepping away from WWE might be a nice break, but I don’t doubt that in time he’ll be back in WWE. He’s still young and a great talent.

"He needs to step away and look to reinvent himself, my brother Owen left the company years ago when he was wrestling as the Blue Blazer and he got out of WWE and did some different tours and promotions and then came back a couple years later and found the footing he was looking for when he came back.”

Being placed #4 behind Steve Austin, The Undertaker & Shawn Michaels on WWE’s 50 Greatest Superstars of All Time DVD: “I beat Steve Austin every time I worked with him throughout my career and yet he he’s graded above him, so figure that out. I could give you a list of 50 wrestlers and it would have credibility because I would have an idea but some guy that’s working for WWE Magazine that makes it up frankly, he can kiss my ass, he doesn’t know anything.”

Randy Savage and Owen Hart’s absence from the WWE Hall of Fame: “It’s not much of a Hall of Fame without Macho Man in it, and Owen belongs in there as much as me or my Dad, so I think it’s only a matter of time.”

Other topics include his highlights from his last run with WWE, who he would like to work with from today’s talent, his favorite and least memorable matches as well as his upcoming rivalry DVD featuring himself and Shawn Michaels.

I agree with a lot of what Bret says, but I think his ego is showing in his statement about the top 50 stars list. Don't get me wrong, a lot of that list was bs, and Bret was better in ring, but just because he beat Austin in their matches doesn't mean he's the bigger star. I don't see how anyone can claim Bret meant more to the WWE or was a bigger star or draw than Austin.

I kind of agree with you. He's definitely biased in favor of himself and never has really been able to give answers on these kinds of subjects without taking himself out of the equation. Its like when he was asked for the WWE championship book "who is the greatest WWE champion of all time" and he said "besides myself?" I just wanted to roll my eyes. I don't think HOGAN even said himself.

Austin on the other hand CAN take himself out of the equation and its always much more interesting to hear what he's going to say because unlike Bret its not nearly as predictable. Bret certainly seemed to take THIS issue pretty seriously. Maybe too seriously.

But I agree with him that the Top 50 list was almost total horses***. We got 2 guys who were in the top five saying so now.
