I'm glad to hear Jonah's working on the script again, but the inclusion of David Goyer leaves somewhat of a bad taste in my mouth. I can't really comment on anything else 'til we get more news.

Ummm Goyer worked on TDK too. He's a great idea man/comic expert. His screen writing is weaker though, but the Nolan's have always been there to correct that. And that is the same set up they had with TDK. Just Chris helped with Begins. But both brothers including Goyer helped with TDK.

Goyer was Nolan's guide to the Batman comics and without him, Nolan would have probably given us a batman without a cape and grapple gun. It was Goyer after all that convinced him otherwise.
Besides, Nolan was the director, he had the final say on everything, and he let those one liners in, so its his fault.

Yep, they're a good combination. One of them knows how to direct and tell stories really well. The other is far more knowledgeable on the Batman mythology.

Besides, the two waterpipe dudes, while cheesy, were used to up the tension of the scene. They were supposed to be ordinary folks dealing with extraordinary situations like these. You need people looking up in the sky and going: "wow, i saw a dude flying", or "wth, a tank just flew over rooftops" to underline the peculiarity of the situation. These events are supposed to be extraordinary. If nobody reacts to them that way, they become ordinary.

Having them say the same thing repeatedly between the showdown of hero and villain doesn't make the scene extraordinary. If anything, it takes you out of the moment because it becomes distracting and annoying.

Like all the annoying extras in the climax fight sequence in Spider-Man 3. Between the stupid kids, and the british reporter, it just completely takes you out of the moment.

It didn't distract or annoy me, it hasn't any single time of the dozens and dozens of times I've sat through the film. It seemed normal.

Or maybe I'm just not prone to overreacting to anything I can get my hands on.

I will say it's very Madden though.

It bugged me. The use of slack jawed civilians in climaxes like that is always an irritation. Just show them once. That's enough. Having them constantly interject with the same lines is BS.

Lucky you. I'm not as harsh on the third act of Begins as most people are. I actually quite enjoyed it. But those water pressure guys were a pain in the ass.

Well, the part that Commissioner Loeb is astonished by the sight of Batman being towed by the monorail was a lot better than the waterpipe guys. There should always be ordinary guys to underline the "WTF" factor of the situation, but i agree that those guys werent done that well. Nor was the "nice ride" guy. It would have been better if Nolan showed us various pedestrians running away as the Batmobile was blowing **** up.
Loeb was a lot more convincing and i also liked the guard of the car park that looks at his coffee when the Batmobile zooms by. It was both effective and hilarious!

I guess I'm always too focused on the action to even really give a crap what the guy is saying so I don't pay him much mind. Plus he's just stating the obvious, so he might as well just be random background noise.

Even though I didn't mind, I agree that it was unnecessary and I wouldn't encourage a repeat of that kind of thing.
