IESB: Welling out of the running for JLA Superman

I agree. you cant even come in here for updates without having to wade through all the welling Vs. Routh crap.
I'm starting to wish that neither one gets the J.L. gig

FACT: Tom Welling played Clark Kent in 7 seasons on Smallville, made WB millions of $$$$$, single handily keeping CW in business, and helped the media to care about DC characters....

I know how you feel. I think am starting to think that the WB should just start all over again and just end SV and give us one Superman for then next 5 years. This Welling vs. Routh thing is becoming stupid.

It would be nice if we could Kumbaya up the place and sing some Ned Flanders peace song but we're talking about who we want for the JL movie here. Some people don't like Welling. Some Superman fans don't give a crap about 'Smallville'. Some Superman fans don't care about 'Superman Returns' either. Or Brandon. So what? Superman fans have all these things to choose from.

Whoever is cast in JL is something we will have to live with. If it's Welling, expect some *****ing. If it's Routh or someone else, expect the same. I mean this is the internet, you know.

I personally don't care about 'Smallville' and don't want Welling in JL. So I'm waiting like everyone else to hear the news.

Reading all that , thinking about the possible consequences , not only because of "internet wars " but also because of people perception (is it connected to Returns? Is it to Smallville?even if there are no connection in the movie , people will make one even subsconsciously )i really i think it would be the best of the world if we had a new Superman.

You don't wan't Routh ? fine no Routh (but hopefully, there is a man of steel somewhere along the road..)

you wan't Welling , you have Smallville.

Whole new ball game : no connection to any universe , no Returns connection for those who didn't like it no smallville connection , just a new fresh ( hopefully)exciting universe.

A part of me wan't Routh : he is for me the embodiment of Superman, but there are a lot more potential advantages there..

lol yup , that's the way things are :cwink:

I feel the same way. A new Superman for the JL universe. He can be what people wanted from SR and complained about when they didn't get it: more action-oriented, younger, flashier, less introspective etc. He also won't have any 'Smallville' baggage.

Routh can continue the SR story in MOS- Superman in Singer's Superman is more introspective and serious, older and more mature. It is about his love for Lois and about his son now too. And hopefully with great action and villains as well.

I don't buy that MOS is dead, I mean who really knows around here? I like Routh and the only way I'm buying that the Superman sequel is dead right now is if they cast Routh in 'Justice League'!

I'm sure WB has some idea how divided the fans are and I wouldn't doubt if they do go for a new Superman, heck I still think there is a slim chance that WB will shelve JL.

I keep hearing "younger" mentioned but I think if anything WB will go with someone older, I mean Routh was about what 25 when he filmed SR you go any younger than that and you will have superboy.

Ugh that would be even worse.

Think about it: Instead of the whole Routh vs Welling thing, it would be Routh vs Welling vs Newguy!

I would prefer Routh get it to Welling, and even though I like Routh better, that has nothing to do with it. My reasoning is that Routh is the film Superman, and Welling is the TV Superman. Justice League is a movie, so it should be Routh. If the roles were reversed and Brandon Routh had starred in Smallville and Tom Welling Superman Returns, even though I prefer Brandon Routh, I would say that Tom Welling should be the one in the Justice Leauge movie.

I do think they'll go younger because rumour has it that they are in the first couple of years of their careers. The tone of the movie strikes me as being very youth-oriented. I mean, Superman may be a bit older than some of the others but I think he'll be in his 20s. If they cast someone about 25 he is still younger than Routh (28). Plus Routh will be a bit older once they get a SR sequel going lol.

Well Routh is 28 now but I would assume he was about 25 when he filmed SR, I could be wrong.

What I meant was someone younger than Routh is right now. And a Superman without all the serious adult issues Superman faces in the Singer version.

I've been a bit surprised that WB is so gun ho about signing Welling. (at least thats what we hear from Rob)
I am reminded of when Adam West wanted to play Batman in Batman (89) but didn't because I believe WB simply did not want him for the part.

Lol surely.

but let's imagine..(there is no harm in it after all :cwink: ) that Miller and Wb find a guy who would nail Superman in a way that would please a majority.

it would be hard of course .. buy hey , we never know ..

Yup ,there are not only those rumors , but hearing about the leaked casting (Biel , Tyrese Gibson , Gosling etc etc ) one can think that they are going young..

that's not one of the movie brightest idea imo.. i dunno ,but from what i can read of the (small )synopsis online , the movie could beneficiate to have older more experimented super heroes , and it would help this movie further differenciate itself from the other franchise .

I mean a Bond like Craig has 38 year old and not only he is a great Bond, it don't cause any problem..(and Dalton , and Moore were even older when they begun as 007 )

now they go young well , i just hope that they would go with Monica Dean type physique , where one could imagine that those people are like 32/35..(and older )

Look, I'm divided here. I want Routh for JL, but I'm happy he's pursuing his career outside of Superman and establishing himself. At the same time, I want to keep JL in a different universe from the Singer and Nolan universes. So, a new guy is the best way to go. Like someone said earlier, keep Routh in the Singer movies, keep Welling in Smallville, and, well, let's have a new guy have a crack at Superman. I hate this Routh vs Welling/SR vs SV wars. They are horrible. But I'm no innocent. I have contributed to these wars....Because I think Welling is a horrible actor, and would be a horrible Superman...

And, at least to me, a poll that pits the lead of a show that has been on the air for 7 years against the lead in ONE movie that underperformed, means nothing. Who's to say that poll wouldn't be drastically affected if Routh were to star in a kickass Superman movie? Just some thoughts.

Anyways, I'm a Superman fan, first and foremost.

I think some of the JL should be older and some should be younger.

I think either Routh or Welling should get the gig unless the story calls for a older and wiser Superman. If not stick with Routh or Welling.

I say Batman should be a bit older.....mid 30's. It really is to bad Bale will not be involved in this production.

Flash should be in his mid 20's and younger than 30....and I think WW is going to be mid to late 20's.....once again....it's to bad that Biel will be not be involved....she has the body and athleticism and acting to have been ideal. Now though IMO I wish they would go olderand cast Jennifer Connelly....she just needs to tone up and get in shape and she would be another perfect choice!

GL/John Stewart should in his mid 20's and be an under 30 actor IMO.

I think Aquaman should portrayed by an actor who is 30 and over.

He should have leadership qualities established and be much more noble and wiser than the rest of league.

Manhunter should be around 30 IMO.

How about Matt Damon as Maxwell Lord?

Yup , now (minus flash) as long as the actors don't look too young , i don't care about their age..

What i don't wan't when i think about it is known actor.

those characters sell themselves .

and it would help to buy a new Batman ..

Ryan Gosling 's Batman? Josh Hartett 's Batman?

those characters are way too iconics..and especially when you have no time to devellop them fully...

no need for "stars".just : "that is the justice league there onscreen " :)
