IESB: Welling out of the running for JLA Superman

I'm surprised you're oblivious to this. I thought it was just common knowledge at this point.

The same thing happened with Bale while filming BB, I had heard that Bale kept getting bigger and bigger causing the suit to fit him tighter to which the costume designer had to constantly "adjust" the suit, mind you this was a rubber suit a much harder material than Brandon's Superman suit, while Bale's Bat suit would get tighter Brandon's Superman suit would tear.

I could be wrong about Bale gaining muscle maybe I heard wrong and in fact he loss muscle either way the BB suit was constantly "adjusted".

rouths chest, arms, and deltoids are all MUCH bigger and more developed than wellings in that pic; tell me thats a joke. Welling has wider shoulders; but Routh is huge at that point. Welling looks more natural while Routh is a lot more defined; hence why he looks more like a body builder or model with picture perfect proportions compared to Wellings who build is more goofy; big biceps with no triceps and little development in his pecs and deltoids.

Routh was obviously trained by a pro and it shows. I am someone very into weightlifting and fitness and theres no bias; Routh is clearly MUCH stronger than Welling.

And it make sense why Routh didn't get much bigger. The suit was too tight & holding him back. It was more cloth & not get tear easily from muscles, maybe he would show his body better. If the suit's fabric was like Reeve, Routh would look a hell lot bigger than the suit in SR that was too tight on him. I think if Routh play Supes again, give him a suit to let him show his body more & be comfty.

I'd just like to point out that I *like* that Routh is smaller than Welling. It doesn't make sense for Clark Kent to be some sort of Behemoth, and Superman doesn't need to be ultra-muscular either. The thing a lot of people forget is his powers have absolutely nothing to do with the size of his muscles. He should look like a fairy averaged sized male who keeps in shape. That's how he's been drawn historically. Steroid freak Superman is a fairly new thing.

Plus I always think it's cooler to see average looking Superman taking out aliens who are 3 times his size without even breaking a sweat, but it loses that effect when he's practically as big as them already.

its not fiction dude its true. i heard it in an interview with my own ears way before the DVD even came out. and you know very well that i'm not "biased", i support the two gents evenly. for me the Superman role for JL can go to either of them. i can take comfort in the fact that we have a very good pool to choose from. what scares me is schmos like Hartnet wanting the role and MIGHT even get it due to name recognition alone.

i'm not going to argue size. Routh looked decent in the suit. I'm more concerned with acting ability. Welling is not a good actor in my book. I have given him the benefit of the doubt, but he really has not impressed me in the least.
On a side note if size was really important they would have just cast brock lesnar.

I actually believe this is the heart of the Welling/Routh arguement. Tom Welling plays the more everyday, human Kal-El, the man who happens to have the abilities of a god but considers humanity his race and acts and thinks like a human, and Routh plays the alien savior from Krypton who is Superman 24/7 and is basically more of a true Kryptonian at heart and is more about showing humanity the light. It really comes down to which version you like more. I like the Human portrayal myself, but I don't judge. Give me Tom Welling!

The more important arguement is this one. Can we PLEASE have Michael Rosenbaum play Lex Luthor the next time the character is on the big screen. Michael Lex owns Hackman and Spacey's baffoon Lex, and don't tell me he isn't, look at the company he keeps. Do you think Michael's Lex would have Otis and Kitty running amok, hell no because he is a real f^cking villian for crying out loud!
