If the JLA gets Made how would you design the Costumes?????

and i wish the reds were more consistent. theres 3 shades of red?

Here's a sketch I did for a JLA Superman. I would stick with a classic look for him, not necessarily for anyone else though. I imagine a heavy cloth for the blue and a really light cloth for his cape. No spandex, we're talking woven materials.

I'm sensing a strong Frank Quitely influence.

Aaah. Of course. That explains the partial familiarity. Looking at it again I do wish that the collar was larger though. Don't like the cape being tucked in so close to the neck.

I think that the trunks should actually be shorter and the cape longer. It'd be perfect at that point.

Yeah, I like a short lightweight cape. It's ridiculous to think the SR cape actually fit under his suit somehow. He doesn't need a huge cape.

Looks like a mini skirt to me actually. The bottom part just needs to have more of a 'V' cut; Other than that I like it, though I would use more vibrant colors.

I probably would v cut the shorts a little more. As far as the colors; they can't fight each other. It was okay in the 80's but it just doesn't work for me in movies anymore. One color should take a backseat to the other and the red was always more important to me. Even Spidey didn't have that bright of colors.

I love the cape, as said before, the trunks should be more in a V shape (but I like the boxer-briefs look), and you should use a little more vibrant colors. I don't think I'm too crazy about the heavy cloth idea. Superman wears tights. Period.

Nah, no spandex thanks. It should of course be form fitting as not to look like pajamas. I just don't need to see his nipples either.

Because your eyes should be drawn to his chest. Not his boots or crotch.

You're right.

I really meant to mention where I pulled the ideas from. I did on deviantart but not here, go figure. I love Frank Quietly and Darwyn Cooke's versions of the costume. That's where the trunks come from. I like the idea of Superman appearing almost like he's stuck in time. He is timeless after all. I hate it when people try to make him look futuristic or edgy.

That figure looks like s*** though.

Gotta love the Lieutenant Jim Dangle bike shorts.

yeah, but you didn't make the chest red the unique one.

i think you should make them consistent.

Good job, wouldn't really want this for a modern day movie though.

But do think it is a great suit, made me think of that It's Superman! book I read this past year.
The face almost reminds me of those old animated films (I think Rankin-Bass, where they used real actors)--would be cool to see this moving in animation.

If the XMEN looked closer like Ross's that movie would have been twice as good. Leather suits like turtle necks with reg. fitting leather pants was disturbing.

Hope you don't mind Bunk, was playing around with your Superman image and did this:

I evened out the red on the trunks, boots and outer part of the cape. Then changed the logo to look like the New Frontier, Fleischer cartoons, etc.

Then it would be four reds, you don't even like three.

That rocks. I wouldn't have any problem with that symbol in a movie either. If I went that route though, I'd give him a black belt too.

I want the Ultimate Superman costume design in the movie. the SR design is atrocious.

Batman's costume should be more like the ones in his animated outings, but a little thicker, because he's human and needs some sort of protection. Not the armor crap he wears in begins that totally craps on his agility.

Wonder Woman's should also be based a little off the Ultimate version.

Those are the most important 3 and the ones that could be messed up the most.

I remember seeing that image last year, great photo who ever did it.

And where's Ross refused design for Superman?

I'm still waiting.

i hope you're not getting offended. it's an amazing drawing, but you posted the pic for people to see and comment, right? but i hope you're not offended.

I actaully said to keep all the reds the same. so only one red. BUT, if you are gonna go with a multiple, the chest should be the only one that's different. but i still prefer 1 shade for all.

Oh lord no, all comments are welcome. Now that people have commented on it, I know what changes to consider and at some point do a more finished illustration. When I see the Reeve version of the costume, I have to laugh at the boots, they're just way too bright. I like to keep the focus up on his chest.

Here are some more old pics:

I don't like the shape of the S, but I kind of like the way the cape is flush with the symbol (and covers the shoulders). I'd ditch the belt entirely.
