You know, it's ironic that you'd think it'd be annoying, because that's exactly what it's supposed be to his enemies. And it doesn't only work in the comics, it works in animation too. If they can find the right timing to have him wisecrack in cartoons, why would it expotentially more difficult in life action?
It's not that it's not do-able, it's because the writers suck ass. Just look at the few wisecracks he actually had in the Movies, they were horrible. Like "You're out Gobby, out of your mind."
I'm not saying that more quips can be annoying, I'm saying that too many quips can be annoying ... And if Spidey ends up annoying regular moviegoers, then they won't be cheering for him to win, that's for sure. Annoying the villain is okay. Annoying the audience isn't okay.
Seriously? Annoying the audience? Did you see Spider-Man 3?
I'd prefer he keeps his mask on and still does the wisecracks, best of both worlds.
.
Ok, so Spider-Man 3 annoyed you. Do you want a repeat of that?
By the way, based on the general tone of these boards, you all might as well be saying that nothing can help this film franchise. It's doomed. It's finished. It doesn't matter if Spidey has more quips, because Maguire and Raimi suck, so the movie's going to suck. Everything's going to suck. Life sucks.
Wah wah wah.
You missed the point entirely. Raimi was annoying the piss out of people because of the stupid dance numbers and the stupid emo Peter's hair cut. Not because Spidey threw around quips (which he didn't.) But I'd rather them annoy me while staying true to the character than annoy me because they want to change Uncle Ben's killer and an essential part of Spider-Man's mythos. Spidey quips, like it or not it's a big part of his character. You didn't hear anyone leave Wolverine going "man that movie was awsome! I just wish that Wade Wilson character would shutup." In fact many people talked about Wade's character like it was one of the few saving graces of the film.
Personally, I'm not sure if Tobey Maguire has the chops to pull off a few quips...

The dance numbers and the emo hair didn't annoy me. They were laughable, yes, but I wasn't annoyed. Spidey saying crappy quips every two seconds, though? That would annoy me.
The movie needs to be careful with what they'll do with the humor, especially since the majority of fans (it seems) disapproved of the humor in Spider-Man 3.
I want more quips. I just don't want too many. I'm just saying that the movie should focus on the quality of the quips rather than the quantity. I really don't think that's an absurd request.
A list of Spidey quips:
Spider-Man 1
"You have a niche for getting into trouble."
"It's you who's out Gobby! Out of your mind!"
"Oh boy!"(When Goblin throws those blades at him)
Spider-Man 2
"I have a few! Yeah!"(When asked if he had anymore bright ideas)
"This is really heavy."(Holding the building to keep it from crushing Mary Jane)
Doc Ock: You're getting on my nerves!
Spidey: I have a niche for that!
Spider-Man 3
"I guess you haven't heard. I am the sheriff in this town!"
"A couple of minutes ago wouldn't have been so bad either."
"See ya chump!"
"Yeah, everything okay here Paul?!"
You seriously thought those are quips? Even him saying "oh boy." If we're counting "oh boy" why can't we count him saying "wooh hoo!" when he first wall crawls? Or how about "oh boy yeah" when MJ says that it was nice seeing him tonight in Spidey 2? I know this is going to sound mean but do you even know what a quip is? Because if you did I can't imagine you'd think "oh boy" was a quip. And most of those were terrible. They weren't funny at all.
Oh and it's "I have a knack for that" and "you have a knack for getting into trouble".
Niche doesn't really make sense if that's what he was actually saying. If you don't believe me or the script link just turn on the subtitles while watching.

You have writers that don't do a good job and then you have also Tobey who doesn't really have much comedic timing, nor is he able to pull them off convincingly. He had a lot of wisecracks in the game, but he's nowhere near as good as any of the other people who ever voiced Spidey. Well, at least he's better than the Web of Shadows guy.
I'm not saying that more quips can be annoying, I'm saying that too many quips can be annoying ... And if Spidey ends up annoying regular moviegoers, then they won't be cheering for him to win, that's for sure. Annoying the villain is okay. Annoying the audience isn't okay.
I'm very aware that Spider-Man's quips are essential to his character, I just don't want him to turn into a Mr. Freeze from Batman & Robin. Remember those ice puns that Freeze said in response to EVERYTHING? It was annoying as hell! I don't want Spidey to annoy me like that. The movie just needs to find a good balance for the quippage and know the difference between funny and annoying. When it comes to comedy, timing is everything. If there are more quips in Spider-Man 4, I hope that the movie lets them breathe.
Also, I'm going to defend the movies a bit, here. Spidey's had a few good quips (in my opinion):
"That's a cute outfit. Did your husband give it to you?"
"You're getting on my nerves."
"I have a knack for that." (I like this quip a lot because it's amusing and it doesn't take away from the fight at all)
"Where do these guys come from?!"
"Looks like I'm just in the nick of time."
"A couple of minutes ago wouldn't have been so bad either."
"Hold on!"
"To what?!"
Also, Spidey's "Oh, boy" and "Oh, great" in Spider-Man 1 aren't particularly special, but I just liked how Maguire delivered them. I don't think that "I'm the sheriff 'round these parts" is bad either. Of all the cheesy things that Spidey has said (in both the comics and the movies), I personally don't think that line is as terrible as some others believe.
