....never had someone close to you die, or had someone you truely loved.

My mother died of cancer 7 years ago, and I cried alot, so I guess that makes me emo. I choked up when I was saying my wedding vows to my wife. I cried when my children were born, so I guess that makes me emo too.

I actually feel bad for people who don't get the crying scenes, because when you are touched personally by a tragedy (and it's enevitable that we all will face it at one time or another), you will probably be totally unprepared for the grief you face.

You can make up words like "emo" to make you feel cool, but when tragedy strikes, it will hit you like a knife through the heart.

Exactly ..... It is a sign of maturity. Those that "think" they are cool will never understand.

I agree. I didn't see the big deal with the crying, it's a natrual human emotion. It added emotion that people chose to make fun of rather than appreciate.

I agree with the original post. Completely.

But I think most people here laughs at the crying because of Tobey's face :S

D!

Or maybe the scenes were lame, phony and thus unrelatable to in spiote of personal experiences. I've lost dear ones too.

This is it. I've seen the movie twice so far and in each showing people laughed during that scene, because Tobey just looked funny. It doesn't mean they don't get the scene.

I get it and think it's a pretty emotional scene, but yeah...Tobey does look funny.

People laughed. They just did. They laughed when I went to see it at a late showing, they laughed when I went at a noon showing. My company even sponsored a showing of it last night, and employees I work with laughed. I think it's the way Maguire does his scenes, and the fact that so many people cried in the film. It just didn't provide that emotion neccessary...not everyone is as involved in these flicks as we are.

That's true. As a fan, I know that these two are MEANT to be together... that MJ isn't just a girl friend, she's the girl Peter wants to be marry and the girl he loved before he even liked girls. Getting dumped by a girl is one thing, getting dumped by the girl OF YOUR DREAMS- is something completely different.

I especially like the Peter wanting to seek revenge moments, because I've personally went through something like that and Tobey reflected those emotions- perfectly.

Nobody laughed when Will Smith's character cried because he couldn't take good care of his son.

People laugh when crying is forced or cheesy.

I cried when my GF read a big speech that took alot of guts to do.

how was the crying funny? its called drama danmnit!

That's weird, in my cinema they laughed when they had to laugh and the stayed in silence in the emotional scenes. Nobody said a word about anything. In fact, the movie received an applause at the end :)

PS: I cried when I saw how much the ticket for 'Ghost Rider' costed :S

Yeah because people dying is cheesy, and a young girl who has to be on oxygen is cheesy. :whatever:

Uh...like the gentleman said earlier. Tobey Maguire has very bad faces when he cries. Thus, they are so bad they are funny. End of Story.

I've seen the movie twice and no one laughed when Peter and MJ were breaking up.

I'm a pretty unemotional guy and I felt really sorry for Peter in that scene.

Wow....

As a man who had the only grandparent he ever knew and will ever know since most of them were already dead....and mind you, this grandmom helped take care of me because i was being raised along with two other babies by a single mother in jersey city and was being treated like crap by their baby sitter, and she, being in a wheelchair and suffering from diabetes, still took the time out to take of me and my brothers...I must say, i still laugh so hard at tobey's bad crying skills...period. Harry's death had me until tobey started breaking down.

Just so you know...making assumptions like that isnt really smart...

I thought the scene was very sad. I didn't laugh once at that scene, both times I when't to the theatre (I'm going two more times) I thought the scene was very sad.

It's Maguire's facial expressions....and the fact that half the audiences for SM films are teenagers.

He makes that same funny face right before he kisses MJ when they're on the web in the beginning of the movie.

The first time seeing the movie I thought Tobey's crying face on the bridge seemed really weird and forced. Some actors are good at crying scenes and some look like they are forcing it....Tobey looked like he was forcing it. He did do a much better job in the scene with Harry.

The crying per se wasn't bad, it was the way Tobey did it that was hilarious. He's like Jennifer Aniston in the sense that he has zero acting range. So when he was crying it looked so cheesy and fake.

i thought the only bad crying part was tobey on the bridge. and it wasnt because of his acting, i think it was the editing. it was too fast, like it seemed like there should have been something in between MJ telling him she was breaking up with him and him bursting out in tears. it was unhumanly fast

I saw nothing wrong with any of his crying. I said It before, and i'll say It again. How Is someone SUPPOSED to look when they are crying? I'd wager most of the people "laughing" at the way he cried, look pretty silly crying themselves. There's no set way someone Is supposed to look while they are crying. Get over It.
