I miss that time when there were eight X-Books and they were all in the one family.
I really like what they are doing now and I understand that despite the mistakes they have made they must move on, evolve create something new and interesting.
I really like the idea of the new X-Factor team, and while I think that most of the characters in New X-Men aren't as compelling as some old characters and i doubt they will ever be in the limelight, I undertand that a 'new mutants' book sells well and explores new and future territory.
I wish they would do more with some of the characters they have abandoned though, and more with ones that they should utilize. Chamber for one I find is incredibly interesting and has a cool design, but he only works in the hands of the right writer. Iceman is another that I feel is being under utilized. I also feel that there should be a connection explored between Iceman, Beast and Angel seeing they are all old friends and have been manipulated, transformed, and left out in the cold. I would think they would want to take comfort in each other's friendship.
I am a little annoyed at the idea of Generation M, if what I have heard is true than Iceman, Chamber and Jubilee losing they're powers is frustrating. I mean it could be a really intersting character study and make a good dynamic but what can you do with these characters when they are no longer powerless? I mean they're not really 'super' heroes anymore. (Course this could all be misleading information)
Anyway I like what the future has for X-Men. X-Factor looks like a good idea, Astonishing is enjoyable (especially with the hellfire/emma developments), I hope Peter David does something really cool with X-Men and Uncanny seems like traditional sci-fi opera claremont stuff. The mini's fleshing out the world is a great idea, especially with Deadly Genesis, Son of M and Pak's Endsong Sequel coming up.
I am not sure about Marvel flooding the market with characters but they seem to be trying new things with these characters, I suppose after Morrison they had to. District X was a great idea but sold poorly, likewise Excalibur was a good 'idea' but the wrong creators were involved. Nightcrawler, Gambit and Rogue are all great characters and should be able to carry they're own books, it's just that the market didn't demand it.
The only thing that I'm really wanting is better creators on Uncanny, Claremont should be doing something like The Early Years, A Better understanding of the characters in X-Men by Peter David, and a stronger continuity throughout the three main titles. They don't feel like a family as they once did, or that they all live under the same roof, and wolverine should pick a team and stay there.
I miss that not all the characters can be in the spotlight all the time, but at least series like X-Factor and Excalibur can give them a bit of love. I want to see more from Caliban, Cannonball, Chamber, Marrow, Jubilee maybe Meltdown and Warpath but I don't want to see another X-Force book. At it's best it was a decent book, but more often then not it missed the mark. Especially now that marvel regards it as the 'big guns/big action' book. Cable is working in Cable and Deadpool, but I'm not sure if this book 'gets' the characters or just makes fun of them. (Fair enough though, given whose involved)
Anyway long and pointless rant over. You may aswell just skip this post and read the next one.
