U2 dropped the FULL theme from 2004's The Batman. I need Reeves and Giacchino to sneak this on into the sequel.

How come I never knew U2 had created this theme?
To my defense, I never really gave that show a fair chance, and probably consequently, I never really cared for the tune... but it's a singular and nice one for the character, I can't deny that.

Listening to it, I notice the obvious callback to the 66's theme, but with a darker arrangement. And I realize that something in that vein would actually work pretty well with my dream Batman movie (I mean, one of...) which would be a cross between the Golden and Silver Age Batman and Twin Peaks. It'll never happen of course, because it's far too niche, but I'd love something bold like that, mixing a certain sense of fun and kitsch with that so particular eerie darkness.

The Batman cartoon is great, really close to TAS in quality. You guys should give it a chance! Always loved it's visuals and this theme.

They went full 66 with seasons 3-5. I wonder if something like this (with perhaps a slightly darker edge) would work for The Brave and the Bold movie:

BTAS is definitive and a classic.
but the batman was a fun show.
it filled that animated batman void after BTAS ended.
and the way they reimagined some characters was good - i liked how they did the riddler, bane, and black mask.

it was a bit more light hearted more kid friendly compared to BTAS, but still kept a bit of that darkness in it.

the batman vs dracula movie was great too!
(i love how batman has a no kill rule, but when it came to dracula - he was like f*** that!)

The Batman felt like a discount BTAS to me. "Here is the same type show, but more kid friendly and toyetic!" I think that is why Batman: Brave And The Bold works better as a show for me. It is an unapologetic love letter to silver age Batman and truly feels distinct, while aiming for that younger audience.

The best thing about The Batman is the DTV where he fights Dracula. Everything else... meh.

‘Clayface’ Greenlit At DC Studios With Mike Flanagan Writing

DC Studios is still looking for a director after greenlighting Mike Flanagan's Clayface script.

To be fair, it was announced at one point that Reeves would produce an Arkham series for the DCU, and he did also produced Caped Crusader...
So anything is possible, it could still be an elseworld thing, especially with Flanagan apparently having that project for years...

We'll probably know more soon. In any case, more than on The Batman part II...

EDIT: Isn't Reeves also attached to the Dynamic Duo animation film?

I’m not even a huge U2 fan, but Hold Me, Thrill me and The Batman theme both rule. I think Batman just really brings out the sauce in artists.

Couldn't get confirmation but we gathered that Reeves' overall deal* had some stipulation that he is involved in anything Batman-related - film or TV, animation or live-action.

*Done before Gunn agreed to co-run DC Studios even though he was already secretly working on Superman to direct.

It's odd to me that they would get a Clayface movie out before The Batman Part II if he were the villain in that, which makes me doubt it has anything to do with Reeves' stuff.

Also, who in the Seven Hells is Dan Marcus?

The Arkham series is another confusing one. James Gunn mentioned it was DCU, I wish someone on the penguin press circuit asked Matt Reeves about that because he was talking about the Arkham series but never mentioned it was separate from his universe. It sounded like it was still part of his series but that they couldn't get it to work.

We also know that Reeves at some point was taking pitches for solo villain movies.

If this films next year it will be interesting to see when they slot this on the release calender. If clayface plays a role in the batman sequel, I would imagine you would want the exposure to the name "clayface" as it is arguably a b-list villain that the general public has no clue about. Regardless if it is part of the batman or the DCU.

I'm sure the budget for this thing will be a lot smaller so success won't need to be hitting that large of a box office milestone.

No preference over where this should land universe-wise, but I like Flanagan a lot and a legit dive into a character like Karlo could pay off immensely.

I also don’t really care about Clayface being in two different films. Hire cool people and make stuff.

This entire DCU vs Reevesverse fiasco is really confusing and has the ability to really confuse the general public.

Lol. ‘Fiasco’. The GA doesn’t give a ****. It seems pretty obvious to me they’re soft holding off on DCU Batman until after Part II to limit confusion anyway.

None of this matters. Even if it did, the DCU is totally unproven and the Reevesverse is a successful known quantity. There’s nothing to be done about it if Reeves and co want to stay independent.

This would make a lot of sense if this was included in the contract. He did walk away from negotiations at one point and this seems like an ask that could have been made. Especially knowing how the property was treated that anyone could come in an pitch.


At the time justice League had just come out and was a bust, Ben Affleck was all but done, it seems like something WB would have conceded to Reeves as they were in desperate need of good publicity.
