I'm sorry, Lana should have died!!!

I'd be annoyed if I just watched season 4, too. I hated it then, and I hate it now.

Season 4 was real hit and miss. Some episode were great, others not so much. The finale was dope though.

Hmmmm just making sure, that was the earliest memory I have of the show failing.

When that stuff started happening, I thought "Oh lord... and they don't even have The Force to help explain things". However, the whole plot with Jason's mom was a nice save, but still... It undermined heavily the original Lana that people liked - made me think of Xena and all the other shows that make me flinch.

Yes I agree. Plus the fact that every odd type of occurence or uncovered secret gets forgotten due to the "memory wipe". I hate memory wipes!

Yeah, it's a damn pity that instead of leaving a mark in superhero TV, they fell into wanting to keep their families eating.... such a waste.

Anyways, memory wipes are demented. Always have been. I think that in Heroes this thing was addressed very nicely - people start really forgetting crap when their brains were poked in every other day. I seriously think that the greatest pitfall of superhero TV, movies, cartoons, comics and such, is the fact that very rarely the powers have true effects on the surrounding world and it's people. The state of Endless Clean Slate is... tiresome.

However, it's also a necessity for the business to survive.

But like you briefly mentioned about Heroes. Memory loss is not used too lightly. Yes there is one character, the Hatian, who can erase memories. But we have seen both in the show and in the graphic novels that his power when used too much will really hurt someone. Like Claires mum. The clean slate routine has a huge price to pay in that show.

In SV you would think Lana would have some kind of damage to her brain due to numerous wipes...may explain why she acts like an idiot sometimes though. ;)

Everyone that I know that loves Smallville as much as I do can't stand Lana and cheered when her SUV blew up.

Even though it was beyond obvious that she wasn't in the vehicle? Lana haters really know how to grasp at straws, no matter how short. Its sad really.

I class myself as a Lana lover....and no not a love to hate.

But still poor Lana....she was bent over and screwed so many times by this show!

Totally out there(but hey it is a show about an alien), but couldn't Clark being from a different planet some how alter everyones perception of himself as Clark as opposed to Supes? We the audience would not notice the difference because well, we are the audience and already know he is the same person. A sort of Jedi mind trick if you will.

Yes like a Super persona power. He can shift his looks just slightly...

Not bad dude.

I swear I am not crazy production guy. This episode spoke VOLUMES.

Anybody think of Avid today when Clark mentioned then "Avid" fans?

So, finally made it to season 7. After couple episodes it feels... frustrating. I hate it how Lana, as a character, for the past few seasons has been defined by everyone else but herself - with Clark she's all love love love and with Lex she became a plotting mastermind. Why is it that I can't sense her original character anymore. Where is Lana? Not that I miss it, but it just feels dorky and makes Lana a lesser character - she's complitely spendable in my books - has been for few seasons, actually.

Why on earth the writers didn't just let her character rest for a while in Shanghai, until they come up with something other for her to do than just show up and get all mushy with Clark.

Good points. I too feel that she is used to make other characters arcs move forward. :csad:

Yeah, one thing that I was really expecting was when Clark'd tell Lana the truth, or through some other way, Lana would discover that basically, she could blame Clark for what happened to her parents - and even if she wouldn't blame him, it'd be something for her to chew (and add to her character). I mean, that's always what I've thought as the biggest reason for Clark not to tell her his secret. Obviously earlier there also was the fact that Clark was indeed supernatural and Lana had not experienced the meteorfreaks consciously, which could've prepared her for Clark's secret and I guess it's what the makers were staring, way too intensely - considering that Smallville basically could've been spelled Freakville, and a bump with the supernatural isn't that uncommon... especially around Clark.

I always pictured the revelation starting with:

CLARK
(hesitantly)
Lana... I'm the reason your parents died.

LANA
(megashocked)

That would've kicked so much ass, and would've also brought back stuff that defined Lana in the early seasons when I still liked the character. I guess the writers and producers didn't want drama being too logical, because as much as Clark would fear revealing Lana this thing that could complitely change everything, it would also define him as a person - feeling guilt over it and partly pulling back from telling the truth because of it. I hated it how he always talked about Lana and his secret with the Kents by underlining how he's from another planet, and essentially not human, and forgetting this guilt angle complitely.

This would've been a good reason for her to go to Paris in the first place. The Paris thing sorta came outta nowhere when it did.
