Same reason all our regular, modern day action heroes are big, strong, resilient guys who can overcome any obstacle - no one really wants to see a scared, weak, and useless "hero" :oldrazz:

Demi gods should have demi god powers.:csad:
Otherwise what's the point of [BLACKOUT]Theseus getting an upgrade[/BLACKOUT]

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm curious to know the reason behind them not making him a demigod from the start like in the myth (though the real story of Theseus is nothing like the movie, anyway).

Probably the same reason they didn't make the minotaur a monster or Hyperion a titan... because they wanted real, human fight scenes, not just CGI spectaculars.

I really appreciate Disney's hercules. It was pretty much a superman story and it worked for that reason. Take the superpowers out of it and it's just another one of "those" stories"
Now, I'm not speaking on immortals, I think Theseus was a mortal. But it's the other myth movies that I think are missing the mark.

Troy and Clash specifically.
Go for it.

Congrats to Cavill for Immortals where he his in the lead being #1 in the U.S. and overseas.

Me and the wifey will be watching it this upcoming weekend.

Has anyone heard if the 3D is any good though?

The 3d isn't bad, but its not avatar quality. I will say that it seems like they made the movie in 3d just for the final fight. That was really well done.

The 3D is pretty awesome in a few scenes, but it's barely noticeable in others. But this is the first movie I've seen where they didn't give the audience a choice. The theater I went to only had the 3D version.

All the gods looked young. They don't age, or age differently than mortals.

Yeah but it's weird when a father looks the same age as his son.

Oh and one other minor complaint...there was only one female god. Were they Smurfette-ing it up there?

Lol. There were two. Maybe more as extras, but I defintely remember at least two.

Only one female god? That's disappointing, since Greek mythology has alot of beautiful goddesses.

Theater I went to had 3 screens in 3d, and one in 2d, however, the 2d only had two showings all day.

I thought I saw another female god at [blackout]Ares' funeral[/blackout]. I remember thinking that it was probably Hera [blackout]mourning her son[/blackout].

Honestly though, I think they just wanted to focus on a few central gods in a (failed) attempt to give them actual character development and get us invested in them - hence the father-daughter Zeus/Athena moments, and thus resulting in the Zeus/Athena/Poseidon Show with a guest appearance by Ares and some extras.

Yeah, they really needed to do more with the gods. Athena, Poseidon and Ares had no personalities and Zeus was only moderately fleshed out. Given how much press Evans was doing for this movie, it makes me wonder if a lot of his scenes were cut out for some reason.

It was okay. There wasn't anything in the action that particularly stood out, I don't remember anything 'flying at the screen' (except right at the end) or anything.

But the sets worked really well in 3D.

Cinema I went to had a choice. Tho weirdly, the viewing I saw was 3D but I saw plenty of people who just didn't put the glasses on and watched it as normal.

That's so dumb. Not only is it a waste of money by paying for a 3D ticket, but also for watching a blurred movie. If you don't want to watch it in 3d, see it in 2d. Such a waste.

Well I don't find any problem in the movie,As the movie got the good response from the audience.

Yeah, there was a really good response in my theater. Lots of "woahs!" and gasps, etc. The scene where the traitor [BLACKOUT]gets his groin crushed[/BLACKOUT] by the minotaur had the whole theater gasping in agony/laughing uncomfortably.

It was probably one of the better theater experiences I've had in a while.

Same here, my theatre had/has no choice it's 3D only. That's why I've not gone yet.

Well I don't know much about 3D, and watching people around me not bothering to put glasses on, I did have a look at what the screen looked like without them a couple of times (only other 3D film i've watched was on DVD and had the green and purple lines around everything).

But it wasn't blurry or anything when I tested it... it was just normal.

But maybe I just picked a not very 3D reliant moment or something, who knows.

I liked the portrayal of Greek gods in Immortals more than in any other movie.

Think Zeus in Clash, even Liamm Neeson cannot save that role.

Whereas I was lead to believed in Luke Evans as Zeus.

I saw the movie for matinee for $6. It wasn't bad and it looked nice but the story was nearly incomprehensible. The choices and why certain things happened didn't make any sense to me.

The Titans looked boring to me. Weird to me that they gave this movie this wacky, abstract production design, but the Gods and the Titans looked really sort of bland. The Gods and Titans looked more human. The monsters weren't really monsters. The minotaur was just a dude in a bull mask.

I don't get what was going on with the beginning with the evacuation of the village and what the troops were doing and what Theseus was doing and what happened with Lysander. The script was just really poorly written and thought out. The dialogue and events made no sense to me while I was watching it.

My thought was, if they polished this script to give it something to match the pretty visuals it would be a heck of a lot better. I think 300 worked because while it was visually interesting it was also fairly simple and easy to grasp and understand despite the lame subplot shoehorned in with the wife and the council.

I don't understand why the Gods are able to die. Why does Zeus punish Ares but not Athena? Why does the council and others not believe in the Gods?

I thought it was funny that the Gods all looked like teenaged A&B models.

Also Seth Green isn't dating Bailey from G4. The dude is married to Clare Grant.

.

Yeah none of that stuff made sense to me.

I mean, what were they the council of. That wall was there to protect the entrance to the mountain where the titans where contained... and the council that had something to do with that wall didn't believe in Gods and didn't wanted to reason with Hyperion... which makes no sense...

Lysander... he was already in the village right? As a soldier? Pfft, I dunno. I had no idea what most of the people's backstory was. What did Theseus do around the village other than train with the old man... did he have a job? How did his mother and he eat?

It was an incredibly badly written film.

Like I said before, you've got this great director, some decent special effects, some solid acting... and a B-Movie script which just leads you to utter confusion as to whether you like the movie or not!

Everything but the script was good... but can a movie be good without a good script?

Well... no... not really :(

I can still enjoy it, but I would never call it a good movie.

Lol, what does this have to do with the Immortals?
Someone in an earlier post said they thought Seth Green was dating Candice Bailey after you guys talked about the Mickey Rourke interview on AOTS.

Hopefulsuicide, I completely agree about the script. This was like one of those SyFy channel Greek mythology movies except with great directing and high production values.

The script was like a B-movie script. And I mean the movie I think had a lot of potential just a really lazy script that I think needed about several re-drafts.

Tarsem seems like a talented director. I mean I did like the movie's production design and the action. I wasn't too keen on the interpretation on the monsters and Titans, but eh that's slim pickings. This movie just really needed a good script doctor.

Movie was alright, a crowd pleaser it seemed even though it dragged at points.

I really need to see Tarsem go back to location shooting. I know with Relativity he has "no budget" but this film would have been so much more if it was shot on location. The fishing village felt like a set with fake lighting. My friend later told me the film seemed small for some reason. I honestly feel it's because of the lack of tangibility in locale. It was like a ware house.

The scenes with the actors covered in oil would have benefited from this greatly.

This movie had a reported $110 million budget, though now Relativity is saying it was $75 million.

Yeah the movie did feel very claustrophobic at times, like the labyrinth and the salt mines. Like the actors would bang their head if they stood up straight, you know?
