Not really sure about this...

Reactions to the domestic Mirror Mirror trailer have been largely negative and incited complaints about the film looking like (for lack of a better description) a colorful hamfest that only the juice box crowd could enjoy. Well, it turns out that helmer Tarsem Singh actually feels the exact same way.
Here is what the filmmaker had to offer Digital Spy, on the topic of the marketing for Mirror Mirror:
“I’m really angry at the trailers. I’m a director, I guess, so I always get pissed at them! The movie looks fantastic and the trailers look so hammily off. The posters are okay, they’re still neutral, but we’re trying to get the film out there so people don’t judge it by the trailer.”

Nah it still looks hammy and made for 8 year olds.

I'm okay with children films but like every other film they have to look good. If I wrong then fine but I honestly do not expect Mirror Mirror to be a good film, I expect it will be quite bad actually.

yeah i hate that excuse oh its a kids film?

did kids get dumber?

lion king is a kids film that does'nt talk down to the kids

I think Tarsem should go back to directing one film every 8 years or whatever.

Of course, after this and Immortals, he might not have a choice...

was there a kids movie in the last 5 years that was only for kids and made a profit?

Immortals was a brilliant film I watched it for the first time, very violent and has some action scenes, I don't why Street Fighter or any other video game franchise doesn't have fight scenes like this brilliant stuff!

He has a weird style but I think it'll work for Snow White.

Immortals had great fight sequences and some good performances, but I think it also magnified some of Tarsem's flaws as a director. That script seriously needed work... when you sat back and thought about it, a LOT of it didn't make any sense. And given that it was based on a Greek myth that COULD have flowed a lot better, one wonders why they didn't try a little harder to follow the source material instead of going off on a weird tangent.

I also think some things showed a bit of a lack of imagination on Tarsem's part, which really surprised me. There were some visuals that were truly stunning, or outlandish. But many others were dull and flat. The entire countryside just looked like a barren wasteland with two buildings and some caves.

What do you mean by "only for kids?" Because I don't know if any kids movie is truly "only for kids." Most of them are obviously first and foremost a children's movie, but they make them with little snippets thrown in there that adults can enjoy. Or if it's a good enough story, anyone of any age will enjoy it.

For example, all the Toy Story movies were obviously children's movies. But they were made in a way that adults like them as well. But I'd still call it a children's movie.

the reason i asked is because Mirror Mirror looks like a kids movie. something that a 5 year old boy and girl watch on saturday morning.

Me and a friend saw the trailer with The Muppets and just turned to each other with that knowing look of "this looks ****"...

It's as if someone saw what Snow White and Huntsman looked like and said they had to do the absolute polar opposite...

Sure, it looks pretty, I guess but it also just looks incredibly hammy and 'sweet and innocent' to the point of being boring to anyone over the age of 12... It comes across as being a more childish (note, not even family friendly, just enjoyable by small children) - and a 'girls version' at that, of Snow White and The Huntsman..

Yeah, but I guess my point in reference to "kids movies that make a profit" I would say that tons of them do. Toy Story, or basically anything by Pixar, the Lorax, etc.

And The Batman Animated Series was something five year old boys watched on saturday morning.

Point being, kids movies/shows make a lot of money. However, the good ones are the ones that do really well. The bad ones usually don't.

What's the budget for this? I saw one that said 60M and another that said 100M.

i am the guy who always writtes how movies are more expensive then they look. but if this movie is over 50 then someone made some big mistakes on the set. it doesnt just look cheap. it looks insulting cheap. and if smoeone payed Roberts millions he should go to prison.

Interesting marketing, I guess...

People should stop talking about how bad they think this films look, how stupid/childish it appears.
Be thankful for Mirror Mirror, guys. It's not everyday we get a Snow White adaption. And this one can be better than the previous ones.
Have trust in the project. It has potential to be a fun and entertaining adventure ride.
Mirror Mirror is light years from Dark is Rising and Red Riding Hood. That's what I think. Prove me wrong.

That argument is a little moot when we have Snow White and the Huntsman, which looks miles better, coming out a few months later.
