In The Multiverse Of Madness Spoiler Discussion Thread

So I just saw the movie and...

- the vfx is amazing. Though there is a scene where Wanda is levitating and you can tell that her mini cape (whatever you call it) is CGI. Nonetheless, I can't wait to see this on 4k

- fight scenes are good. I like the Strange vs Strange duel

- Some jokes fell flat which is fine for me as I was expecting a horror film not an Iron Man-esque one.

- funny how Wanda's agenda is to access the multiverse so she can be with her kids but didn't even bother to see if Pietro is alive in other universe (this is just a nitpick and a silly one so don't come at me)

- I don't why some of you are complaining about John's costume. I think it looks great. Hopefully, he signed multiple contracts. Only time will tell

- the 90's X-Men theme is a nice touch.

- Stewart looks uncomfortable in that chair. But the chair looks good as well.

- Atwell is a goddess. Nuff said

- Seeing the Illuminati in the big screen is a sight to behold. Didn't watch the Inhumans series but BB's costume is amazing.

- some semi brutal death scenes are a great addition to the MCU.

- Since Wanda killed a lot of people in this movie, I bet we won't be seeing her again until something world ending is about to happen.

- Cumberbatch and Olsen were great which is expected.

- Didn't expect Charlize to see in the movie.

- Stupidest end credit scene ever. I didn't hear anyone laugh
Most MCU fans haven't seen Evil Dead, so no surprise that it flew over their heads. I thought it was a cute nod. *shrugs*

Talking about the Illuminati, because I really like that group, I think the lineup is, for the most part, fine, but wish they'd gone further with it, especially since they're variants. Show a different Tony Stark. Have Ioan Gruffudd as an older Reed. Maybe even throw Beast in there. Sure, that'd be two mutants, but they went through the trouble of bringing back Patrick Stewart. They could've given Kelsey Grammer or Nicholas Hoult a call, I'm sure.
I don't think they should use a Stark variant. Even if played by Cruise, Rockwell or another actor. Let Iron Man (live action anyway) rest for a bit.

I think they couldve/should've done either of these 2 things.
Option 1: Have the Illuminati casting be a tribute to the Marvel movies (good or bad) that came before. The line up should only feature actors from non MCU Marvel movies. A lineup could be like
-Xavier/Patrick Stewart or Xavier/McAvoy. I'm leaning toward McAvoy even tho I like Stewart more just because Patrick Stewart got 2 good Xavier send offs
-Reed Richards/Ioan Gruffudd or Sue Storm/Jessica Alba just to play with the expectations of Reed being in the Illuminati. Not sure if Alba would do it since she has said she didn't like making the FF movies
-Eric Bana/Hulk
-Wesley Snipes/Blade
-Jennifer Garner/Elektra. I would say Affleck as Daredevil but I wanted to have another woman on the team and didn't wanna use another X-Man

As said before this would be kinda a tipping of the hat to what came before regardless of quality.

or

Option 2: Have the Illuminati be only MCU related characters/variants
-Director Coulson/Clark Gregg. This would be a variant of Coulson that became director of SHIELD after Fury and Hill died during the battle with Thanos
-Captain Carter/Hayley Atwell
-Captain Marvel/Lashawna Lynch
-Black Bolt/Anson Mount
-Baron Mordo/Chiwitel Ejifor variant...maybe I'm 50/50 on this, I feel like having a Mordo variant kinda takes some shine from the main timeline Mordo and his mission
-Iron Fist/Finn Jones or Colleen Wiig/Jessica Henwick. I know Finn Jones as IF wasn't that well liked but they included the freaking someone from ABC's The Inhumans
-Honorable mention: Ultron/James Spader as a good Ultron variant

Option 1 will be more attention grabbing and will break the internet, but Option 2 makes more sense story-wise. In either case, whichever option they choose the Illuminati would be actual characters in the movie not just cheap cameos.

The storyline should've been Scarlett Witch (or someone) is negatively affecting the multiverse for whatever sympathetic reason and the Illuminati are trying to stop them. However, the Illuminati's is more ruthless due to things that happen in their own universe and they're kinda ****ing stuff up in terms of collateral damage, etc. Strange is caught in the middle.

Regarding the Illuminati, maybe Fox traumatized me so much that I didn't "mind" them being killed off like that. At least they got some decent lines. Storm, on the other hand, was brutally killed after saying "Hi, Bob".

But that's right, looking back, how they treated the Illuminati should've been better.

-Wesley Snipes/Blade
Dude...that would've been amazing. I think I would've leapt out of my seat and applauded if that happened.

Especially considering that Blade's already been on an important council like this in What We Do in the Shadows. If Taika could get him, surely Raimi could have as well!

Snipes would have been a huge get.

I know right?
And I feel like the casting of my Option 1 would've been a really cool tribute to all that came before the MCU. Like a thank you for inspiring SH movies or moving SH movies forward

MoM tried straddled the fence with the cameos when they should swung for the fences or kept it more reserved

I liked the movie. It's at least as good as Doctor Strange 1 (while totally different and barely a sequel to it).

Visuals were amazing, the gore and frights were welcome and a little nauseating (black bolt). But I like the dark side of the MCU we are getting (moon knight too).

And anyway, I loved the Xavier cameo. And the DoFP quote. Happy to know they are part of this multiverse now. Also glad they didnt use anyone from the F4 films, daredevil/elektra, ghost rider... Feige is picking and choosing the best movies to add to the multiverse and I'm here for it.

Carter and Black Bolt fell flat. But I got a totally clean reveal of Krasinski and I LOVED it. Hope he comes back soon.

I do wonder why we didnt see Kang. And I am curious where they take Clea. Charlize Theron is one of my all time favorite actresses so now i want to see Dr Strange 3 RIGHT AWAY!!

I loved the illuminati scene. The one guy I thought got robbed in the film was Mordo. I really want to see a full on Strange vs Mordo battle in some future film. The 616 Mordo is full on getting rid of sorcerers. Hopefully that plays out at some point.

One small point on Captain Marvel. I agree the way they showed the death scene was not believable, but yes Wanda can kill anyone in the MCU, including CM. They should have shown her using her hex power to use her space stone powers against herself or something.

Having said that there was a video a while back on You Tube that said people got Wandavision all wrong. Agatha Harkness was the good guy, and Wanda was the bad guy. I'll admit it's not that black and white, but Agatha was trying to stop Wanda because she brain washed an entire town and held them hostage for her charade. I'm glad they went to her being full on the villain of this film. I knew Strange and her would have confrontation but I assumed there'd be a redemption arc and she'd come back. While she does come back to an extent, it's over for her. She flat out killed hundreds of innocent people, on a quest for her children that don't exist.

The sad part is that Wandavision told us this was coming. We just didn't want to believe it. We see the scared girl that Steve Rogers tried to protect. The one that had to kill the love of her life to protect the universe, only to see him die twice before her own eyes, and be snapped out of existance, then to be brought back to a world where everyone she cared about was dead. Not to mention House of M and the numerous comics where she freaking lost it.

Regarding the Illuminati…

Black Bolt looked AMAZING. I was surprised they got Mount back for that, given how the Inhumans series turned out. Would love to see him again; guess we’ll see if another variant pops up. But man oh man did I laugh my *** off at how he died. :funny:

I’m guessing this means that Krasinski will be playing Reed in the F4 movie… not sure if he’ll be clean shaven when we see him again but I don’t really care much either way. I’ve never been a fan of the character (sorry) but he was good in his appearance here. Costume looked better than any previous F4 suit too.

I guess Maria will appear as a version of CM in The Marvels, which will be cool. She was badass here and I dug the costume.

I loved seeing Hayley as Captain Carter too. Minor gripe though; Wanda is so powerful that she made Bolt’s mouth disappear but Peggy is able to go tow to tow with her? I mean, come on. Then again, Steve fought Thanos for a bit lol.

I thought the movie was alright. Kinda surprised they didn't bring in Paul Bettany in this movie. Him being an additional voice of reason, in an alternate universe, or confirmation that Wanda's character had been taken over by the Darkhold would have gave the movie more umph for Wanda.
Good idea that.

Yeah, if anything was missing from the film that was Vision. I mean, how the hell did she do the kids? Even in Wandavision she had sex and got pregnant before conjuring them. And Vision was an integral part of her ideal world long before her children.

I LOVED the illuminati scene!! I don't understand the hate for that at all. I was smiling from ear to ear the entire time! John Krasinski has been my favorite for Reed for a couple years now, and even though this variant got slaughtered within 5 minutes, I was bouncing with joy! And hearing that X-Men '97 theme when Xavier came rolling out was enough to almost make me tear up. So good!

That was insane!

Recent bias places as a top 10, perhaps 5, perhaps it even dethrones my beautiful Spider Man 2.

Beautifully shot, great cinematography and combination of VFX and practical/costumes and Danny Elfman well balanced score. Loved the horror! This has Sam Raimis fingerprints all over it.

Definitely for fans of Evil Dead trilogy, Darkman, OG Spider Man trilogy and Drag Me To Hell and pizza balls.

Disappointed Sam Raimi didn't direct the disappointing No Way Home, glad we got this.

Holy ****! Holy ****!

All praise our lord and savior Sam Raimi!

Yes. Wandavision indeed foreshadowed this happening especially the post credit scene. But yes, I think we all liked Wanda so much and we saw how remorseful she was after what she did to WestView that we assumed she was back to her old self. But the woman went through so much emotional and psycholgoical trauma that I think once she lost Vision and the kids, there was unfortunately no going back for her. Its sad, its tragic and it indeed broke my heart to see her
massacre all those innocent people at Kamar-Taj
....the best villain origin stories come from sympathetic characters who fall from grace.

I hope they bring back Anson Mount again. Perhaps in F4 or Avengers? I would be surprised if the Inhumans get their own movie... again.

That Black Bolt costume was so good and his appearance made the Inhumans show not a complete waste in hindsight now. 2017 felt like forever. Imagine the other Inhumans with a film budget especially Medusa.

dudee...I'm till buzzing from that scene. We've waited forever to see The F4 and X-Men represented onscreen and I just cannot believe they actually listened to the fans and cast Krasinski. And the fanfare for Prof X was just ...ugh the kid in me was so happy.

Its just funny to think that when Kransinski and Blunt were doing their press tour for A Quiet Place 2 last year and were constantly being asked about playing the F4, Kransiski had likely already signed on to the movie at that time and just like Andrew Garfield completely played ignorant. Well played.

Its crazy how they got 3 ips finally entered the mcu movies in 1 movie. Shot 3 birds with 1 multiverse stone.

And even small little aesthetic touches just made the Marvel comic fan in me so happy, the way Prof X LOOKED, the comic booky ring affect they used when he used his telepathy, ripped straight from a Jack Kirby comic. And I bet you those were Raimi touches.

it was eXcellent!!!

One thing I do wish was a little bit more fleshed out was 818-Wanda. She had like zero drive to fight back despite having powers.

Pages and pages talks about a Dr Strange movie with barely a mention of Dr Strange himself tells you all you need to know.

You could have taken out Strange from this film and it wouldn't have mattered. Yet people talk about his *journey* lol. What journey. He was made into a bumbling fool of a loser. Yet again. And because of the major focus on Wanda, Strange had no character development. They teased it and left it in a moments notice and never explored anything really. How could you when your solo movie is 2 hours long and half of it is centered on another character who already had a lot of character development in her own lengthy series.

We watched very different movies. Strange here learns 2 very important lessons:

1 - He cannot always be "the guy" in every situation. He had to let America unleash her powers on her own to save the day. This is echoed many times with the "always has to be the surgeon" talk.

2 - Strange is missing something in his life and his pursuits to fill that void leads him to make unhealthy or dangerous choices, so he has to find out what is going to make him happy. We don't get a fix to that issue here, but the answer isn't in more power or Christine or anything like that. As shown in the variants we see in the film, his dark reflections. Wanda is likewise a dark reflection of Strange.

This is very much a Doctor Strange movie.

I admit, Strange probably didnt have the standout moments in the movie but make no mistake I felt that this was his film. I really loved how Raimi put his relationship with Christine at the forefront and, idk, call me corny, call me sentimental, but at the end when he told Christine "I love you...in every universe." I FELT that. And thats all raimi man, hes a romantic, he brought that same sincere love story in the Spiderman movies and romance is something sorely lacking in the MCU as a whole.
