In The Multiverse Of Madness Spoiler Discussion Thread

I totally want Raimi back for a 3rd Doctor Strange. I'm curious if that's the direction they'll go in or have him helm another Marvel project or maybe even both, but I think Raimi helming this is one of the core reasons it was so enjoyable. One of my favorite shots is when it kept cutting back and forth between Scarlet Witch, and Wanda in her house with her kids. Super effective!

Hugh Jackman/838 Wolverine, Tom Cruise/838 Superior Iron Man, Tobey Maguire/Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield/Spider-Man, Emma Stone/Spider-Gwen...I expect to see them all in Secret Wars.

That's been the speculation for Jackman, Cruise, Maguire, and Garfield.

Time will tell if that will eventually happen, but at this point, fandom needs to get past the knee jerk response of , " There's no way that can ever happen!", when it comes to casting and story possibilities .

This the never say never era when it comes to Hollywood.

I also wouldn't Raimi returning , even though I wasn't as big a fan of the MOM story.
His directing is good.

How the hell does NWH not play a bigger role in this film? That film just came out a few months ago, dealt with the multiverse and Dr. Strange was involved yet outside of a quick mention, its like it didnt exist. I thought Strange's spell and messing with the multiverse was going to lead into the major repercussions that this film would deal with but it didnt touch on that which seems like a missed opportunity.

Also Wanda completely forgot about Vision? It doesnt seem to make sense that she wouldnt be yearning for him as well. Not to mention there is a version of him out there in the MCU

Lack of Vision is my only complain about the film. I feel he should have been a part of Illuminati Wanda's world as it would have added more depth, sadness, tragedy and motivation to her story and goal.

Ready for my 3rd viewing; going for 3D next followed by a screen X panoramic viewing.

The use of magic and spells was pretty unique in here. Really enjoyed the song-off between the two Dr. Strange

She mentioned Vision in one offhand reference.

This film isn't about Wanda, other than her being the villain, hence no Vision other than her describing that she talked to Vision about the multiverse, and bringing up that she had to kill him to try and save the universe where Strange gave Thanos what he wanted.. She's a one dimensional character in this, as most horror villains are.

I hope it's not the modern Secret Wars. One of the worst Marvel stories ever.
I think based on IW & Endgame which were for the most part faithful adaptations of Thanos Quest & Infinity Gauntlet, it should be the original Secret Wars that they'll draw heavily from.

Every time Krasinski said the word incursion, the crowds at both my screenings went nuts. It's like the studio knows exactly what they're doing when it comes to hyping us up. No Way Home & this movie are trailers of sorts for Secret Wars.

Except the original Secret Wars wasn't about multiverses and heroes from different multiverses fighting one another.

Its funny, in retrospect the trailers and tv spots were blatantly showing us that Wanda was the antagonist in this movie but they tried to throw us off with exposition about the "Multiverse" but theres a lot of shots of Wanda bloodied up and looking sinister and fighting people which is telegraphing her to be the film's foil.

Dude, on a personal level I disagree with your thesis. But that isn't why I am replying. This post is super condescending. Can the attitude. You can make your argument without the "everyone who disagrees with me is a Disney shill or idiot" attitude. If you cannot do that, then post somewhere else because I don't want that attitude HERE and no one else does either

I apologise to @javonstokess for being unnecessarily rude.

Yep 100%. There was a guy on youtube who called this right after Wandavision. So many people argued against it, but it was pretty clear the direction the films were headed with her after she created her magic children and then came in possession of the dark hold.

From what I've read the original post credit scene in Wandavision was supposed to be Strange visiting her in the orchard, but due to the pandemic they couldn't shoot the scene, so it wasn't completed until principal photography started on MoM. In any case the post credit scene in WV was clear that Wanda was taking a turn to the darkside. I'm glad they didn't try to bring in some other baddie like nightmare or mephisto to be the "cause".

I think Marvel will purposely float misinformation to protect what's really going on in the film, and on a psychological level it works. Because we see Wanda as Steve Rodgers did in Ultron and Civil War.

Won't lie, that sounds amazing. :awesome:

Is Secret Wars really happening? I mean has it been confirmed by Marvel or just wishful thinking from fandom?

Will that be the next mega event (a la Infinity War)?

They are clearly teeing it up. We didn't get an announcement for Infinity Gauntlet when we first met Thanos, but we all can connect dots.

I’ve got to admit, as the movies/shows go on, the less I find myself interested in what they’re doing. With Phase I-III, there were obviously growing pains with the likes of bad and mediocre sequels and stand-alone projects, but Phase IV has lacked a sense of cohesion which was only exemplified with MoM. Trust me, I have so much respect for Raimi’s directing and sense of style, but the movie is such a mess on a characterization level of Strange and even elements of Wanda that it just screams lazy and reactive to some of the successes seen with No Way Home.

It makes absolutely no sense to claim the movie is lazily reacting to how people responded to No Way Home. That movie only hit theaters *4* months ago. This movie finished shooting last April.

I haven't read it, but I have read some random side things that involved the Battleworld concept and that at least was cool, so I'd still definitely take an adaptation of that over the original. The original Secret Wars was the lamest non-event 'event' in Marvel history. The story was literally just a generic toy commercial with every character as wildly out of character as they could possibly get.

But the idea of 'incursions' and the multiverse has so much more to do with the modern Secret Wars. It would seem odd to now backpedal and try to make that iconography fit in with the 80s storyline.

I'm not saying you can't be critical. Though I personally prefer to focus on things I enjoy and the things I enjoy about what I enjoy (hence why you won't find too many posts from me in the DCEU related sections of this forum, for instance), I understand that some people derive more enjoyment from criticism, which is fine. But one should still maintain a respectful attitude toward others when doing so. For example...

The crossed out portions of the above excerpts are unnecessary, they simply add a disrespectful, flippant attitude to his central points, which are adequately stated in the unbolded portions.

I understand that when arguing with faceless strangers on the internet it can be all too easy to pepper little jabs and meanspirited remarks into an argument. But we should try to be better than that.

That's a fair comment. Usually I'm better about politely agreeing to disagree - guess this film pissed me off in a way no MCU film ever has before.

I meant that apology to @javonstokess.

I have fond memories of Secret Wars as a kid. I still have my copy where they introduced the alien suit. Dr. Doom is a must.

The introduction of the Illuminati should have felt bigger and although they’re meant to demonstrate the arrogance of the group and Wanda’s power, they all make idiotic decisions to the point that their deaths are so ridiculously cartoonish that it doesn’t even feel like the 15 mins(?) they were onscreen should have been included because it doesn’t do anything for the plot besides help Strange pick-up another Christine on his adventure. It wouldn’t surprise me if Feige uses some of the criticism from MoM to determine how he’ll bring these characters into the 616 universe.

Overall, the biggest problem with the movie were my expectations. Not because of the trailers or the excitement high after No Way Home, but because of what Feige and Co kept insisting by the title that his would be a mind-bending adventure through the multiverse. I’m not sure if it’s because Everything Everywhere All At Once and even bits of Loki, captured the insanity of having multiple realities in such a great way that just seeing New York in three different ways in MoM just felt uninspired.

Messy, lazy, reactive and uninspired 100%. Totally agree. I would add painfully contrived.

Should have been called "Dr Estranged and the Messy-Verse of Meh-ness"

I really wanted to like this film - I loved Dr Strange 1. But this was such a step down.

Like Spider-Fan said earlier, it's bound to be a blend of the two. I think the iconography of the original will be translated to the maximum though (Holland will probably get his black suit during the whole thing).

So DS1 ended with Mordo losing faith in the Ancient Once and we saw him on a quest to take out other sorcerers. We finally get the sequel to that film and the only Mordo we see is an alternate universe one....WTF?!? How the hell they just drop that plot? I think Stephen had a quick line expressing animosity towards his Mordo and I guess we are to assume Mordo came for him between films. Not enough people are talking about that
