'Incredible Hulk' unlikely to get sequel !

Well...crap. Can't say that I'm shocked though. But I'm not entirely convinced that there won't be a sequel. As he says in the article, "Hollywood is all about perception." TiH has definitely been better received than "Hulk".

No surprise really. You just can't have a sequel to a blockbuster whose domestic BO didn't AT LEAST match its budget...

Well that is a very strange article because the text countermands everything in the first phrase. Reading it, it seems Hulk might still get a sequal because the numbers were above expectations where as Hulk (2003) performed under the expectations of the time.

It's all speculation until Marvel Studios makes a decision.

I think there'll be at least one sequel, but not before the Avengers movie.

"Overdelivered, relative to its underpromise."

Hollywood horse sh#t speak.

don't want to be the bad guy here, but with the Avengers movie in 2011 and Hulk appearing in it..... do you think a sequel to TIH is needed really?

TIH was the introduction of the character and they'll develop him in The Avengers.

I don't think Marvel plans to create 5 different franchises with the avengers characters.

Blasphemer! Demon, I exorcise thee...The power of Marvel compels you...

There won't be a direct sequel, they'll just utilise banner in the avengers film.

Personally i feel they would have been better just continuing with the old one
but then again, marvel wouldn't have had the rights so everything works out alright in the end.

It is kinda funny though how the numbers (not including inflation) do compare and how users who usually associate box office figures with sucess are now keeping somewhat quiet.

The first one was more successful per its box office but it failed relative to expectations. This one has not ...... at least not yet even if it has not had a stellar performance.

I hope there will be a sequal but I unfortunatly, do think it is more likely we will see Hulk in the Avengers before we see him against the Leader. I just hope Norton sticks with it.

hehe.

I understand how a fan can feel, when he loves one character and wants to see one or two more sequels.

But in this case, I think Marvel doesn't plan to create trilogies with each avenger.

Do you imagine?

3 Iroman movies
3 Hulk movies
3 Captain America movies
3 Thor movies
3 The Avengers
....
...

:woot: It would be great, definetly, but I doubt they do it.

maybe this one simply lowered the expectations of a hulk film accordingly rather than reacing the same expectations that were set in 2003? I mean there had been far less advertising or hype about the film while everyone knew about iron man from comic con last year and the superbowl trailers, the hulk stayed pretty dormant up until around march/april

Marvel studio definitely won't do a sequel to hulk. They took a chance and it didn't give them fruitful results so why would they waste money on a hulk stand alone movie???

Hulk fans get second major blow.

Sure, at this point it seems like a no-go.

But a few things I'd like to point out.

-Since when do supposed "Insiders" who leak info talk like PR guys?

-Of course there is no announced sequel when they have no idea how their slate of movies will do throughout 2011 not to mention they've pretty much maxed out their slate.

-They were fruitful (DBZ) you can go to BOM to see that. If you count fruitful as only Iron Man / Batman / Spidey numbers. Then I pity you. There's a difference between a smashing success and an under-performer.

-DVD's aren't even out where many movies were given their "second-wind" yet. (See: Hellboy, HULK '03)

It's premature to start singing praise to the Gods that a sequel is in the works but it's also to late to start screaming "No way, not ever." We can speculate but as Obi-ron said, it's all speculation until it comes straight from the Horses mouth, which it won't until AFTER the Avengers on what their plans for the future are.

Heck, it could not get a sequel, and Iron Man 2 could be cancelled / moved back. (I doubt the former,) due to Faveru's dislike of no-prep time. Either that, or it could be a crappy film even. Why people on these boards pretend things are definitively going to be one way or not is beyond me.

It's the waiting game from here on out. If we get a solo-Hulk it won't be until 2012 or after. So just sit back and enjoy the onslaught of comic book movies.

Do you think Marvel will do The Avengers 2?

Do you think Marvel will do The Avengers 2?

Hells-to-the-yes. Whether I think that's a good idea is debatable. But that movie will surprise me if it does not make money for the sheer "OMGZ DIFFERENT HEROES I'VE SEEN IN ALL OF THEIR OWN MOVIES TOGETHER" factor. Not to mention I see it being a hyped up machine. Each of these stand alone movies keep hinting towards it, so every summer people will be reminded "Avengers is coming"

This is all speculation. Hellboy was deemed a BO failure, but it got a sequel due to DVD sales and GTD's new following. LL is about to make Clash of the Titans so he's moving on up, plus DVD sales have the potential to be huge.

I could see a post Avengers sequel happening.

Hellboy was not deemed a boxoffice failure, nobody in there right mind ever expected the movie to make 100mil anyway. Anywho HellBoy and Hulk are too entirely different subjects as Hellboy was completely unknown and everyone knows who Hulk is.

The reason that the first Hulk was seen as a failure was it's terrible reception and horrible legs and the fact that it didn't quite hit it's budget. Make no mistake I'm not defending the boxoffice of TIH because it too was a failure and, judging by the legs, not loved either but it obviously isn't as hated as the first one. As far as I'm concerned it's a fact that the first Hulk movie was hated, rather a bunch of geeks on the net loved it or not.

And oh yeah, I think this is the end of Hulk in his own movies and another actor will take over in The Avengers as I doubt the studio will give Norton control over a movie that will cost atleast 185mil to make.

Hulk is guna get his screentime in The Avengers. since he will apparently be a "vilain".
im guessing theyre basing the movie partly of Avengers #1 or The Ultimates 1

Well that sucks = [
I really liked this movie atleast we know Hulk will show up in the Avengers even if its as the villain

Well whatever. As long as Norton comes back for Avengers... which he probably won't... but whatever. All I can say is if Marvel isn't intending to do sequels to these franchises (and they can't expect films like Thor and Ant-Man to do much better)... then they might as well push back Avengers... otherwise Marvel will have nothing to make after 2011 other than small budget features which I don't really care about. Even if it means recasting Banner again. Right now I am just praying that Norton will still be game for the Avengers film.

Meh, I'm going to wait for something official before I start knocking down Marvels door :oldrazz:.

Who said $100M? It didn't make it's budget back domestically - that's a BO failure. Not an out-and-out flop, but a disappointment.

(Kinda like TIH, but HB didn't have the stigma of a hated Ang Lee film hurting it like TIH did)

TIH could possibly be like HB - disappointing BO, but picked up a big following on DVD; so a sequel is greenlit. Hopefully. DVD sales will tell the tale.

I think it depends on Norton... if he is happy with his role enough to continue with it and they give him even more creative input he'll be back for a sequel in 2012 or so. But Marvel is obviously going to have to pay the guy a hefty sum for both films and they may feel it's not feasible with their budget. It may be cheaper just to recast Banner and just save Hulk for crossover films here on out.
