Looks great! Got a lot nostalgia going for it at least. Wonder how they will explain what happened the Smiths character.

They already did

SPOILERS ABOUT WILL SMITH's CHARACTER

While test piloting the ESD's first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller. Hiller's valor in the War of 96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy's defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan.

And yes, this is an official tie in to the movie since it acts a memorial for the first invasion.

This was an awesome trailer. It looks real good.

William Fichtner is the main reason I'm buying a ticket :yay:. Well that and I've wanted to see a ground war ever since we saw all of the alien invasion forces on the mothership. I really want to see tanks and machine guns against the alien foot soldiers.

I mean...I guess it's the best way to explain why such an important character played by such a big actor.

But at the same time, damn. If this is successful, which I bet the bank that it will, they'll make sequels and maybe Smith would decide to do those.

And that's kinda a lame way for him to go out

if there is a another sequel and Smith wants to be in the movie he will be back. :woot:

I saw a couple people complain about the generic-ness of it all.

Im more disappointed now that we're probably going to get the same "My father was a hero and died. So I grew up to be a self centered, reckless, but at the same time talented jacka**" arc that I feel that WAY too many blockbusters since Iron Man have done.

Obviously Iron Man wasn't the first piece of media to ever do it, but i feel like so many people have done it since then

We need another floppy disk virus again.
I can see it now. The world's fate depends on a floppy disk, but technology is so advanced now, we have no idea where to get one nor how to connect it to current technology. :oldrazz:

a scene of someone digging through a room, tossing aside old issues of PC Gamer trying to find one

This is going to be an awesome guilty pleasure movie for me.

Looks better than I expected it to look. I'll give it that

I guess this is going to do well. It's a big meh from me. Hopefully they finished rebuilding all those monuments so they can get destroyed again.

The alien plan should have been a global anal probe as revenge.

The effects look nice, but it does look very generic. The original itself was also pretty generic though (which even Roger Ebert pointed out) and what made it stand out was the destruction of famous places, it also had a great marketing campaign. While the trailer doesn't look bad at all, it doesn't seem like they'll have as good a marketing campaign, kind of a shame imao, a lot they could do to create the sense of anticipation the original got with new technologies.

If Bill Pullman gives the same exact speech as last time, I hope the aliens win.
