Independence Day 2? - Part 1

So let me guess...............the female pilot is the president's daughter from the first movie who is all grown up now.
Yep, flying alongside Will Smith's grownup son from the first movie.

Honestly, I think Will Smith is just done with alien movies for a while; from ID, to the MIB trilogy, to After Earth, and I feel like he's done more I can't remember.
Personally I'm happy he won't be in the movie phoning it in as he's done all his movies the past 5 years at least.

I wouldn't exactly call them interchangeable. While they're around the same category, Bay's action is much more nauseating, his camera is all over the place and in constant movement, the director of Battle LA is the closest in style. I do aplaud both of them for the spectacle they bring up, Bay in particular makes an extensive use of pratical effects, while also pushing ILM's CGI department (not counting Transformers 4 though, that seemed like a lazy job).

Roland doesn't go for the lowest common denominator with his humor.

I do find a lot of funny stuff with Bay's bro humor though.

I think the only time Bay's humor annoyed me are in the Transformers movies. And even then I laugh a fair amount, especially in the first one. But it's just too much a lot of the time.

I think in Bad Boys it comes off as hilarious. Probably because Smith and Lawrence got their start in comedy and are/were such charismatic actors.

In Bad Boys, Smith's character usualy comes across as a psycho though, he takes waaay too much pleasure in shooting at other people.

His Bad Boys charactrr never seemed like a psycho to me.

Oh I didnt put that image to say he wasn't psycho. Im not disagreeing with you there
It's just like...who cares?

I mean the R-rated movie is called "Bad Boys" complaining about a male character acting bad in a movie titled that is like complaining about spider imagery in a movie called Spider-Man. It kinda reads like one of those Amazon Movie Reviews on Twitter.

Besides I like characters like Casey from Chuck, Lassister from Psych, where half of the humor involving the character is about how gung-ho they are. I really did not care in Bad BOys

It's only funny because Bay lacks irony, and I can picture Bay giggling as he's shooting the scene. Sometimes, it kinda works when it's really over the top..like John Malcavich showing his Karate photo to Shia Beef in Transformers 3. It's so fundamentally stupid that it's almost genius.

That scene was terrible though :ninja:

Looking forward to this. Still shamed though at them recasting Maes character.

You're right about that part, but i don't think it quite work with Michael Bay, as he simply makes the characters so damn psychotic while not putting anything else to balance that, while also going for racist and sexist jokes. Tarantino for example also makes his characters very brutal, but they're still likeable and it works in the context of his films.

I have nothing against her for taking the part, just the studio/director/everyone bts.

I think the reality is this: The Studio doesn't think Mae is a conventional beauty (even though she's cute), hence the recast. It's pretty simple.

I mean but she still acts. It's not like she doesn't act anymore

Im not really concerned, but it's obvious why they did it.

EDIT: Octoberist said it right above me.

Mae is the curvy cute girl who gets to play the nerdy 'ugly' girl in movies, sadly. It sucks. It really does.

The studio doesn't want curvy cute, but someone beautiful like Maika who could hook up with Thor's brother.
