I can not get over how dark the cinematography is in this movie.

When major characters die, there was no drama or feeling or anything. They were afterthoughts. When important characters died in the first film, it was a big deal.

Goldblum just didn't seem like the same character from the first movie. It was a weird performance.

Say what you want about first ID4, but I think it's a solid tightly edited movie. This one, the editing was all over the place. First film was edited by an Academy Award winner. This movie was edited by Adam Wolfe, who edited...White House Down.

I for one am sick of this dark and dreary cinematography trend. The more I read about the film the less appealing it becomes.

You can see most of the actors' faces. Even during the day time shots, the actors look like shadow puppets.

I would say part of the problem is that a lot of scenes were set in Area 51 which is all darkly lit.

Yeah, I decided against watching this, so went to wikipedia to read up on the plot. I'm actually surprised by how terrible the story reads.

I love dark cinematography most of time but i feel it should have only looked like that for the aliens' ships. I kept wondering why no one had the lights on here, especially compared to the first film's look. Just left the theater myself and I'm very easy to please, but I'm mixed on this. Editing and pace was just weird, too slow half of the time and too fast on others. Young characters are boring, old characters wasted. Didn't feel the epic joy and energy i felt from the first film. This felt more like one of those transition sequels that exist to make a trilogy with no other need to exist.

Agreed. Suicide Squad will be a lot more beneficial for him.

A lot of scores are like that now. They lack that bombastic factor. I miss the days of Robert Zemeckis telling Alan Silvestri what he wanted for Back to the Future:

"I want it big Alan! BIG!"

There has been great scores but most of them are in TV shows or smaller films. Big tentpoles used to have hummable scores and I wonder why that fell out of fashion?

Yeah, there's very few memorable scores anymore. I'm not asking for a John Williams like classic, just something memorable.

9/10. I thought this was epic, and honestly, this is what summer movies are all about. It knows exactly what it is, and doesn't try to be anything more... just like the first one. You should've known what you were getting when you bought your ticket, and if you didn't, shame on you.

The first one was a pandering, cheesy "B" movie that happened to have fantastic effects and a fresh take on alien invasion movies that elevated it to "A" status. Not sure why anyone was expecting something more this time around. Goldblum, Pullman, Hirsch, and Spiner were all solid as ever, and the possibility for a third movie (and an expansion of the franchise) makes me salivate.

A lot of people need to take a deep breath and remember why they go to the movies. Especially ones like this. It's big, dumb, fun, mindless entertainment. Stop being pretentious and complaining about cinematography and casting and script issues and plot holes. Watch the big, fun movie and enjoy it. Stop over-analyzing the dumb alien invasion movie and have some fun in your life.

His brother aint much better but atleast chris seems to have some comedic timing which is about all I can say

We all know it is supposed to be brainless fun. Treat it as such. Still excited to see it.
