Indiana Jones Reboot

This reminds me of Taylor Kitsch. I watched Savages last night and it was a let down but it wasn't because of any of the actors. He was one of the characters in it and like Battleship and John Carter he just happened to have the poor luck to be in a lackluster movie that bombed.

I don't think he's a bad actor but he's had a string of bad luck in his film choices. Sometimes there's just no winning.

As if Bill Hader's Mr. Hollywood denying Taylor's rise to glory. "I don't want this kid being a star in MY town."

If I could choose which project gets off the ground, the reboot or Uncharted, I'd definitely go with Uncharted.

I really think Spielberg is just a DIFFERENT director now. While he still has his Spielberg moments, like in Lincoln, his post-90's films tend to be a bit colder, more real, and world weary....even with some of his sci-fi/fantasy stuff. I really think that Schienler's List and Saving Private Ryan changed his perception of the world, and in turn, artistically changed him as a director.

So even when he makes a lighter movies like Warhorse, Indy 4 or Tintin, it's not the same because he's an older guy who is in a different path in his career.

I'd perfer a Tomb Raider reboot myself. The original films were dismal in my opinion, bad movies are the first ones that should be remade.

I really think Spielberg is just a DIFFERENT director now. Maybe so. I do prefer his older movies but he's still quite good at making modern movies. I think we'll have a long wait before another director can truly match him. Abrams, his "successor" as he is sometimes called, is no Spielberg as he is now either.

Abrams doesn't compare to old Spielberg or new Spielberg.

He wouldn't even make a top 40 all time director list.

Spielberg would make the top 5 easily.

It's difficult to have a "Spielberg Successor", along with Star Wars, he changed the way film are made in Hollywood, we may have to wait decades to see another person like him, and even then, "legendary filmmakers" have existed before and after Spielberg too, so we'll definitelly have some "game changers" now and then.

Abrams is sort of a Spielberg 1.1, he mimicks the same style and if you enjoyed Spielberg's blockbusters, then you'll enjoy Abrams's films, however, he's not near as creative or important as Spielberg himself, and i don't think he will ever be. Howver, he's still a good enough Director and his films are usually on the very least entertaining.

I don't think the next Star Wars movie being directed by Abrams is going to be the next Star Wars film either. It doesn't stop people from hailing Abrams as the new Spielberg however, which is why I quoted "successor."

Funny how i've seen some of the big people in the industry or other art medias state that the likes of Michael Bay's Transformers or Halo were this generation's Star Wars, yet, as somebody who grew up in this generation, it seems to me like the Harry Potter Phenomenon passed them by.

I'dd say that J.J.Abrams is part of a generation of filmmakers heavily inspired by Steven Spielberg. Out of the most popular one, Abrams represents the heart and tone, Michael Bay represents the excess and spectacle, while Nolan represents the seriousness and Spielberg's more complex films.

None of them is exactly perfect or may reach Spielberg's popularity, however i see a lot from him in their films, they're also pretty much on the top of Hollywood right now, having the freedom to do whatever they want to. Only one who's really on top of them all is James Cameron, and i don't consider him a Spielberg successor, i think he's almost from the same generation and when it comes to blockbusters he's basically an equal.

Oh, absolutely. Super 8 was a love letter to Spielberg.

Agreed. The man is one of the best filmmakers ever, but his more recent work pales in comparison to his work up to Saving Private Ryan. After that film, the quality of a Speilberg film has been down. He's made GOOD films since, don't get me wrong. But, his best work in that time probably was Lincoln, and that wasn't a Speilberg masterpiece. Very good film, but nowhere near what he was putting out years ago.

We really are in an age whereby the ones directing films are the ones who grew up on a diet of the likes of Spielberg, Scorsese and Lucas. It's actually going to be interesting to see which directors of today will be the inspirations in 20 years time.

Nolan is going to be one of them. I also think Alfonso Cuaron may end up on that list, as well. Depends on what he does post-Gravity. I'd maybe argue Joss Whedon not so much for his direction per se', but with the rise of pop cultural references in films, I think many will look to Joss Whedon for a lot of that type of dialogue/interaction. Abrams may join this list, but I think it depends on how well Episode VII is received.

Going to be fun seeing what directors we're still talking about in 10 years.

Peter Jackson seems like one who will be talked about, and Michael Bay has already inspired other filmmakers to be like him, though there are some good ones, the Director of District 9 is a Bay fan for example.

I think you guys are ignoring the most popular ones, yet not as liked by fanboys as Michael Bay Hell, we've already seen some Bay copycats already
