Infinity

Yeah, it came out today, but people have real lives and live in different time zones and stuff. There's not really a hard and fast rule, but it's considered a common courtesy to spoiler-tag really, really recent stuff from the comics. Not a big deal, just keep it in mind for the future.

I will. It didn't even cross my mind.

I too have a real life, in fact, I posted that after class today, and after my lunch and during homework, I just assumed that posters wouldn't venture into this thread until they read it.

But I'll keep it in mind. Sorry

As for Infinity #3

So what do we think of Black Bolt screaming at Thanos? With Thanos being the villain of the story, will he be taken down by Black Bolt's scream? Or will Black Bolt more than likely get a beating now? I always imagined Thanos would be one of the characters who could shrug off a Black Bolt scream, due to his renowned durability

I think the scream from Black Bolt and the machine that Maximus built will release the Terigian Mist that we already know will happen

Excerpt from that Thane character in Avengers Alliance

>I used to be just a man. Just another healer, nobody of consequence, plying my trade among my people. And then Thanos arrived.

>How did I get these horrible powers? Why? Did they come from him? All I know is that just as he came to Earth, I... changed.

>Suddenly I had the power of life and death in my hands. But I could not control it, and the people around me paid the price.

>Everyone that I had once healed, everyone I knew... dead. I ran before I could kill again, only to find an even greater murderer in my path. Thanos and his lieutenants were coming... for me.

>This Thanos creature... what does he want from me? If I give myself up to him, will he stop killing people? Or will he just use my powers to kill even more?

>I need someone to help me understand what I am... what I've become. Is that you, Agent? Do you think you can control death itself? I doubt it.

>But the truth is, I have no other choice. I cannot go back to the way I was, and I cannot go to Thanos. That leaves me with you.

>But I warn you. Try to use my powers for evil, and I'll show you what they can do... in abundance.
Yeah this is definitely Thanos's son. In New Avengers 10 Thanos's son appeared to be some kind of doctor.

I'm having a bit of trouble piecing together the main Thanos invasion with all the Builder/Aleph/ExNihila/etc stuff going on in the other Avengers books. How are they related?

We don't know yet if they are at all. That will probably be revealed toward the end of the event.

The last issue of Infinity hinted that the Builders are destroying everything in their path on the way to eliminate Earth because of the planet's significance in [BLACKOUT]creating the universe-ending incursions (from New Avengers[/BLACKOUT]). As far has been revealed, Thanos is targeting Earth at this time because it is at its most vulnerable (with the Avengers in space). Thanos might be unaware of the Builders or maybe he simply doesn't care but, for now at least, the two threats do not seem to be directly connected.

EDIT: Also, Thanos seems to be drawn to Earth for two reasons. First, and most important, the [BLACKOUT]elimination of his Inhuman son[/BLACKOUT]. His secondary focus seems to be the [BLACKOUT]Infinity gems/gauntlet (seemingly destroyed stopping an incursion in, once again, New Avengers)[/BLACKOUT]. So, while the two threats are independent (at least for now), it was mostly the events of New Avengers that put Earth in the crosshairs of both Thanos and the Builders.

Hope that helps at least a little.

A lot of what happened in New Avengers also took place before Avengers #1. When you look at it like that, it's clear that the Illuminati totally f***ed everything up.....AGAIN. There's also that little detail still out there regarding them mindwiping Cap which has yet to be addressed. He's gonna find out about it one day and the poop is gonna hit the fan.

Yeah, I don't see the Illuminati existing in its current form in a year or so. Especially once Panther finds out what Namor did.

I don't think they will exist in their current form 3 months from now. New Avengers 13 solicits hint at a roster shake up.

Predictions:

- Strange leaves cuz he finds out he had Maw all up in his head and that ain't cool
- Blackbolt dies :(
- Namor becomes a full on villain

Black Bolt doesn't die. He's one of the ones who stays. He's the focal point of the New Avengers 13 cover.

The infinity gauntlet was one of my favorite comic books, I guess I should checkout the rest of the infinity series.

This has nothing to do with that. Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War, and Infinity Crusade are the main Infinity stories. Infinity Abyss came later, though I never read it and have no idea how it's connected. This story (simply Infinity) has nothing to do with the previous ones save that Thanos is in it.

I'm finding it really hard to give a s*** about Thane. Or Thanos and Black Bolt's stuff in general. I'm much more interested in the Builder war in space.

For someone not reading Avengers, I find the Builder aspect of the story boring. It's no different from a bunch of heroes fighting a bunch of nameless Skrulls or Kree soldiers. There's no villain to focus on. They're just random robots or whatever they are that seem to be a threat because we're told they're a threat. Add that to the fact that even the heroes aren't getting any sort of development or focus outside of talking heads... it's just not doing it for me. I will admit that the gold people are intriguing.

I'm much more enjoying the Earth aspect of the story.

Adding a third opinion to the mix, I've been reading (and enjoying) all of Hickman's books since the Now! relaunch and... I am way more interested in the Thanos stuff than the Builders' invasion.

The Builders are a HUGE threat. They've killed billions in their conquest so far, just most of it wasn't shown. I can see how there hasn't been much done to make the threat explicitly personal but to compare them to Skrulls or the Kree in terms of threat level isn't fair. However, they are kind of a faceless enemy, a force of destruction rather than an army of like-minded beings.

The Builders are cool but, as a relatively new comic reader (11 years), this is my first true introduction to Thanos and his minions. That's extremely exciting for me. I've read the wikipedia pages and some plot synopses (sp) but have never actually read a book with Marvel's champion of death. For that reason, plus the Black Order, the Earth stuff of Infinity is where it's at!

If you were reading Avengers you'd see that Hickman had really fleshed these out in detail.

I'm very interested to see how they are connected to the White Event.

The thing is, if this is a major event spreading to more than the main Avengers title... Hickman needs to elaborate all this in the core mini so people just reading the event can know it. He's failed at that. He's also failed in the layout of the event on multiple fronts. A "prequel" issue in New Avengers takes place in the middle of the event. The 6-issue event doesn't stand alone in the slightest and needs 11 other comics for it to make sense (a lot more if you count all the previous Avengers and New Avengers comics where the previously mentioned details are fleshed out)

Honestly, this isn't a Marvel event. It's an overly expanded arc of Avengers and New Avengers being promoted as a line-wide event. While I can tell that this is probably a great story for those following Avengers (and I do read New Avengers so at least I get that aspect of the story), it's probably the second worst event overall (so far) behind Age of Ultron.

That, of course, it simply my opinion.

I'm very interested to see how they are connected to the White Event.

I'm hoping it doesn't come up at all. The random moment with the blonde dude was odd enough being that I know nothing about him and he's not been introduced in the story up to that point (well, beyond him standing in the background). With there being no mentions of a White Event, it'd be out of left field coming into play more than halfway through the event.

No, it wouldn't be out of left field if you'd been reading Avengers. And the White Event itself isn't what's important, it's the Superflows that cause the White Event, which have been dieing. And the Superflows WERE mentioned in the event while the Builders were talking to Carol about why they have Nightmask, Starbrand, and Abyss (all creations of their own).

You knew coming into this that reading Avengers/New Avengers was a prerequisite for the event so you can't be mad at Hickman for carrying elements from them into this event, because this event isn't just a random story, it's an integral part in the overall story Hickman is telling. It's not an isolated event, it's an ongoing story, which makes it more satisfying. Or at least for those who are reading Avengers/New Avengers.
