There were some technical difficulties as I got disconnected from MSN during an interview and could not log back into it or any of my instant messengers last night so hopefully later tonight it will be working.

What the tool said.

You should interview me as the Great Carnac. It would informative and entertaining, unlike your other interviews. :cmad:

Season III: "Our Blue Boyscout"

Welcome to Inside The Poster's Studio: Season III. I'm your host, trustyside-kick, and tonight I've finally gotten around to getting a hold of the next interviewee. Was hoping to get this done during the week but got busy and was way too tired with how crazy the Christmas season gets at work. This is also the first time I've actually had technical difficulties doing one of these interviews so I am very happy that everything is finished after my MSN mysteriously and randomly crashed.

trustyside-kick: Tonight with us is another poster who seems to dwell mainly in the 'Other Comics & Genre' section of our RPG Basement. He's made an impression playing the Create-A-Hero/Villain RPG's 'Superman' in a sense and you guys know him as NiteMare Shape. Welcome aboard, dude.

NiteMare Shape: Thanks, glad to be here.

trusty: So let's start this evening off talking about your Icon; what I like to call our 'Superman' of the CAH RPG. Sound about right?

NiteMare: That seems to be what he's developed into. Though, that wasn't my intention when I first came up with him. But I'd be lying if I said that I don't like the way things have turned out with him so far.

trusty: Well you deserve it since for a while it seemed that you were pushing the RPG along when it nearly died.

NiteMare: Yeah. The game does have its slow moment, and for awhile it did seem to be on the verge of death, which would be a real shame since in my opinion it has the potential to be one of the best RPG's around. There are alot of really creative people here on the Hype, and they have some great ideas. I was one of a few of the guys in that game that kept it going, and I'm just glad that it's gotten to the level that it's at now.

trusty: Would you say that the CAH RPG is your favorite amongst all the other RPGs?

NiteMare: I'd say so, though the Star Wars RPG is a close second. But the CAH just allows for so much creative freedom because you're dealing with custom characters. It really allows the players to create their own universe, as opposed to putting your own personal spin on established characters from the DC or Marvel universes, which is also alot of fun.

trusty: Of all of your work with Icon, what are you most proud of?

NiteMare: That's a tough one, but I'd say that I'm most proud of the fight that he had with Johnny Drama's character Ultima. We came together and told a (in my opinion) really good story with two characters that have a very similar power base, yet are complete opposites as far as personality go. I thought that really helped to establish Icon as what he is to that game at this point in time...well, that and catching a city sized piece of moon that was hurtling toward the city...
:D

trusty: There are plenty of online RPGs on the internet, what drew you towards the SHH! RPGs?

NiteMare: Honestly, I looked around at a few different boards and their RPG's and never really felt the urge to join them. I'd been lurking on the Hype for awhile and again, never really felt the urge to join the RPG's, but then one day I checked the out the RPG's and was amazed by the quality of the posters here. Everyone here was a great writer and they were telling top notch stories. That's why I decided to get involved, it just seemed like something I needed to be involved with. And I'm glad I did, I've had a blast here and my only regret is that I didn't join sooner.

trusty: Are there any RPGs that you wished you could get involved in but just haven't quite made the move because you've struck writer's block or something along those lines?

NiteMare: Deffinately. I was interested in UDC and Ultimate Marvel, and a came up with a few characters that I'd like to try in either game, but I never did because I had maybe one cool idea, but nothing that would really carry me through a season. That's the problem I ran into in World of Heroes and In the Pages of...but I actually plan on getting back involved in those games as well.

trusty: Well, of all the RPGs you have dipped your beak into and gotten a bit wet, who have you had the most fun working with?

NiteMare: Wow, that's a tough one, because I've worked with alot of great writers here and everyone brings something different. Spike, you, Johnny Blaze, BL, Majestic, Eddie Brock, I've had alot of fun working with all of them and it'd be hard to pick one that I had the most fun with. Though, during the Alien Invasion arc that we were running in CAH I had a chance to work with Johnny Drama and we had developed quite the rivalry between our characters. But I don't think I'd be able to choose one person that I could say I had the most fun with.

trusty: Anyone that you've yet to have the pleasure of working with that you'd like to RP with?

NiteMare: I've always been a fan of MB, he does some great stuff, same with Syn and Keyser. I'm a fan of those guys and hope to maybe get a chance to do something with them sometime.

trusty: Who have you had the most fun portraying?

NiteMare: I'd say the most fun I've had is playing Icon and Joren over in Star Wars. But if I had to choose one, Icon hands down. He was one of the first characters I picked up here on the Hype, I've been playing him for acouple of years now so it's just alot of fun to get into his head and see how he responds to different situations that I throw at him.

trusty: I myself feel that often times when I write my character in CAH I'm simply putting him in situations and writing how I'd like to reply rather than how I may actually reply. Since you seem to enjoy writing Icon the most, do you feel yourself doing something similar? You feel you sometimes write yourself into the character?

NiteMare: Deffinately. In fact, I have something planned for him toward the end of the season that is entirely based on something that had happened to me not all that long ago, though I'm not going to say what that was, because that would ruin the surprise.

trusty: Well looking at your track of characters, if you had the choice to add any character you've yet to play that you could possibly imagine to that list...who would it be? Doesn't matter if they are currently taken in a game or if the game to play them in doesn't exist.

NiteMare: Oh, that's a tough one. I've always wanted to try my hand at Batman or Spiderman, but I think that I could have alot of fun with Huntress.

trusty: Interesting choice. Huntress is my favorite Gotham gal. What has stopped you from giving her a go in either the DC, UDC, or OU RPG?

NiteMare: I'm not really sure. I think if I were to join UDC I'd choose someone else because that game is very Gotham-centric at the moment. But other than that, I can't really think of any reason why I haven't given her a shot other than just a lack of time to devote to another character.

trusty: Well so you know while she has history in the DC history it was very minial bunnying and nothing at all to feel overwhelmed about. :cwink:

NiteMare: lol, I may just have to look into that.

trusty: Being a member of the SHH! RPGs for some time now, you've had your fair share of arcs. Some bigger than others. What has been your favorite arc thus far in your RPG career?

NiteMare: Without a doubt the Alien Invasion arc we did over in CAH. Reason being is that it really helped save that game. We had seen alot of people come back to the game, but alot of that momentum we had died out and we weren't getting very many posts, so Spike and I talked about what we could do to re-energize the game, and we came up with the Arlaaekan Invasion. Fortunately, that arc did exactly what we hoped it would do and then some.

trusty: You've experience the fear of an RPG almost dying when things were insanely slow with CAH. But sadly not all RPGs outside the Big Three are as fortunate as the save that came with CAH this Season. Is there any RPG that had died during your time with the SHH! RPGs that you greatly miss?

NiteMare: I'd say the Zombie RPG. I had been following that somewhat closely but by the time I actually got around to applying the game had died.

trusty: RPGs are ran differently throughout the internet. Are there any changes you'd make to the SHH! RPGs had you the power?

NiteMare: Honestly, I can't think of any changes that I'd make. I think that they're all run pretty well.

trusty: Damn...guess I can't make a stab at MB seeing as he is the mod then. Why are you the way you are, NiteMare? Fun sucker. :(

NiteMare: lol, sorry. I just think that the RPG's here allow for alot of freedom that you don't get on other boards. I mean, have you checked out the Ultimatum RPG? Some of that stuff is golden.

trusty: Actually no I haven't checked it out. But I see what you mean about the freedom.

Alright, is there anything you'd like to shout out to your fellow RPers as we close this interview?

NiteMare: I just want to say that the guys (and gals) we have here on the Hype are some of the best players I've had the pleasure to roleplay with. They all do a great job weaving their stories and I really enjoy reading what they are doing, and I always end up looking forward to what they're going to do next.

trusty: What a guy, ladies and gents. The entire time all he talked about was how great you all are rather than himself when he was in the spotlight. :cwink:

I'm trustyside-kick, and I will see ya around, NiteMare. Goodnight.

NiteMare: G'nite.

Nice.

From what I've been able to pick up, NightMare Shape has come across as one of the real "Nice Guys" of not only the RPGs, but the whole Boards in general.

And the interviewer's another one of them too...

[whisper] pssst, trusty, I think he wants an interview [/whisper]

First rule about these things: anyone who asks for an interview doesn't get one. :cmad:

Are you kidding? He's an ass.

Kidding, Shape. Good interview.

Pretty much. But since you eventually run out of people who do not ask it simply just puts you at the further end of the list.

Man, I should get another one of these done soon.

Yeah. Hell, what with my free time, I wouldn't mind doing another one myself. I just don't have a reliable internet connection or computer.

I figured you were posting with just the power of your mind.

DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK!

Inside The Poster's Studio
Byrd to The Bone

Aaaaand, welcome back here to Inside The Poster's Studio. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to doing whatever it is you do while reading this. Tonight's guest is one of our best and brightest newbies. Bounce. Bounce, welcome.

Thank you.

Alright, let's jump feet first into this. Let's talk about your activity in the RPGs. First off, Damian Wayne. You burst on to the scene as Damian a few months back in the World of Heroes DC RPG. What was it that brought you here to the RPGs and Damian in particular?

Its a hard question to answer only because I believe Grant Morrison is the damn Antichrist. Seriously, everything he touches tends to go to hell in my opinion (case in point: X-Men). Strangely though, Damian Wayne seemed to work. And I think it was a shock to him as a writer, since he said on the record that the idea originally was to introduce Damian and then kill him off.

So you thought you could do better than Morrison?

I wouldn't say better. Morrison got me to come back to reading DC after having abandoned it during Knightfall (which I thought was a disaster).
It was an idea that I thought would be fun to explore. And when I was looking up recent issues of Batman, Google led me to Hype DC RPGs

Was this your first experience with RPGs?

Oh no, I've been doing RPGs online since 1994

In my experience online, I find that the hype is unique and different than a lot of online RPGs out there. Was that the case with you?

It has a unique synergy. I can post with my RPG characters and then get into a debate about a recent issue of Teen Titans or Batman on the same forums

Yep. The hype has a little bit of everything. Have you enjoyed your work with Damian thus far?

I have. I'm probably unique in that I tend to grab sidekicks or secondary characters and develop them. So I'm grateful that the players of Batman (in Worlds) and Superman (in UDC) have allowed me freedom with which to do what I like and be creative.

Speaking of Superman, you play Superboy in UDC. Now that character has a unique spin on him from the comics. Maybe you can tell us a little about that?

Uh. Richard Donner did two awesome films, but "The Last Son" was just screwed to hell from the word go. The idea of Lois and Clark raising a Krytonian kid was cute, especially with the Golden Era take where the kid had Superman's powers, but... he was stupidly cute, especially to be the son of Zod. And it was like they threw in the child abuse just to make Zod more "evil-er". It had no purpose other than effect. Speaking of which, the soap opera spontaneous aging effect brought about by changing writers. Now that was a case where I (perhaps arrogantly) was confident that I could do better.

I need to pick up War of the Supermen #4. I hear that Lor-Zod is back to being a child again. Go figure. So he's been 6, 12, 20, 40, back to 20... and god knows what now.

Oh and... this is in, what? A year and a half since "The Last Son"?

Were you a fan of Conner Kent Superboy? What made you want to have Zod's son be the one wearing the Superman t-shirt?

Kon suffers from a name, just like Kid Flash. How old is Conner that he's still "Superboy"? You can only stretch that "Kid" or "Boy" naming convention so far. In "The Last Son", they'd refer to Lor-Zod as "the Superboy" so in UDC I just ran with that. And since we don't have a Kon (and he'd be a hard one to ultimate-ize I think) it seemed that having him as Superboy would be a rather fun way to reference the alternate Earth where General Zod was Superman.

Cool, cool. And have you enjoyed your time as Super-Kid as much as you have with Damian?

Absolutely. They're both brats, they're both demon spawns, but they're each very different in their own respects and a lot of fun. Damian's a little more challenging, because he's got so much going on with him. Lor-Zod is a very simplistic character in comparison.

.I want to move on to some of my standard questions I bring out for everyone. What's your favorite character to write for? Since you only have two characters right now, also think back to the other RPGs you've been in outside the hype.

Oh that's an easy one. I've been writing a koldunic Tzimisce vampire in a World of Darkness RPG since 1999.
In Hype, Lor-Zod though

"koldunic tzimisce" now that's a mouthful.
Favorite RPer to work with, again including outside the hype.

Well that's hardly fair, because you're the one I work with the most in both my Hype RPGs

It's why I said outside the hype!

The answer wouldn't have much meaning to the people reading this, so I'll ignore my rule about not giving you any props.

Be careful, my ego is approaching massive levels. It's at the point to where it talks to me now.

Good, because it seems to be giving you a lot of good ideas

Why thank you. What's the one character you've always wanted to play? Regardless of it being a superhero.

Probably Henry McCoy (Beast, pre Morrison feline disaster)

What's the one RPG you'd like to create,.

I already created it, strangely enough

What was it?

Its an X-Universe RPG that mixes canon and original characters. It's still pressing on, eight years later but we're down to a core group of people and a pretty slow posting rate.

Wow....that sounds kinda like the hype.
What's next for Damian and Superboy? What are your plans and what do you want to do?

Damian is going to evolve into Robin, but its going to be different than in the comics (because unless Byrd has Batman nuked by Darkseid, our set-up is completely different). I want to explore the Bruce-Damian relationship while crafting Damian as a character who is Robin because he wants to be for his own reasons, not just because his father is Batman or his mother is in the League of Assassins.Lor-Zod is going to have a struggle with the US Government, who sees him as a possible test subject for developing weapons against Superman and also have his first real superhero fight when Micah Flint debuts as the Rock. This is assuming I can hold onto my characters. I have a business trip overseas where I'll be out of town for a month and am not sure I'll be able to post during that time. So Damian and Lor might go up from grabs before I get back.

I promise you. Damian is staying in your hands so help me God! :cmad:

lol Thanks

Alright, as we get ready to wrap this puppy up. Any parting words you'd like to deliver to us?

Ah, (insert something inspiring here). I guess just that I enjoy writing here and I look forward to reading more of what's to come. But I mean by MB, Spike, and Andy. Not Byrd.

Go **** yourself

Bounce, thank you for checking in with us and best of luck writing your ass off in the future.

Cool. Thanks for the interview.
