trustyside-kick: Tonight with us is another poster who seems to dwell mainly in the 'Other Comics & Genre' section of our RPG Basement. He's made an impression playing the Create-A-Hero/Villain RPG's 'Superman' in a sense and you guys know him as NiteMare Shape. Welcome aboard, dude.
NiteMare Shape: Thanks, glad to be here.
trusty: So let's start this evening off talking about your Icon; what I like to call our 'Superman' of the CAH RPG. Sound about right?
NiteMare: That seems to be what he's developed into. Though, that wasn't my intention when I first came up with him. But I'd be lying if I said that I don't like the way things have turned out with him so far.
trusty: Well you deserve it since for a while it seemed that you were pushing the RPG along when it nearly died.
NiteMare: Yeah. The game does have its slow moment, and for awhile it did seem to be on the verge of death, which would be a real shame since in my opinion it has the potential to be one of the best RPG's around. There are alot of really creative people here on the Hype, and they have some great ideas. I was one of a few of the guys in that game that kept it going, and I'm just glad that it's gotten to the level that it's at now.
trusty: Would you say that the CAH RPG is your favorite amongst all the other RPGs?
NiteMare: I'd say so, though the Star Wars RPG is a close second. But the CAH just allows for so much creative freedom because you're dealing with custom characters. It really allows the players to create their own universe, as opposed to putting your own personal spin on established characters from the DC or Marvel universes, which is also alot of fun.
trusty: Of all of your work with Icon, what are you most proud of?
NiteMare: That's a tough one, but I'd say that I'm most proud of the fight that he had with Johnny Drama's character Ultima. We came together and told a (in my opinion) really good story with two characters that have a very similar power base, yet are complete opposites as far as personality go. I thought that really helped to establish Icon as what he is to that game at this point in time...well, that and catching a city sized piece of moon that was hurtling toward the city...
trusty: There are plenty of online RPGs on the internet, what drew you towards the SHH! RPGs?
NiteMare: Honestly, I looked around at a few different boards and their RPG's and never really felt the urge to join them. I'd been lurking on the Hype for awhile and again, never really felt the urge to join the RPG's, but then one day I checked the out the RPG's and was amazed by the quality of the posters here. Everyone here was a great writer and they were telling top notch stories. That's why I decided to get involved, it just seemed like something I needed to be involved with. And I'm glad I did, I've had a blast here and my only regret is that I didn't join sooner.
trusty: Are there any RPGs that you wished you could get involved in but just haven't quite made the move because you've struck writer's block or something along those lines?
NiteMare: Deffinately. I was interested in UDC and Ultimate Marvel, and a came up with a few characters that I'd like to try in either game, but I never did because I had maybe one cool idea, but nothing that would really carry me through a season. That's the problem I ran into in World of Heroes and In the Pages of...but I actually plan on getting back involved in those games as well.
trusty: Well, of all the RPGs you have dipped your beak into and gotten a bit wet, who have you had the most fun working with?
NiteMare: Wow, that's a tough one, because I've worked with alot of great writers here and everyone brings something different. Spike, you, Johnny Blaze, BL, Majestic, Eddie Brock, I've had alot of fun working with all of them and it'd be hard to pick one that I had the most fun with. Though, during the Alien Invasion arc that we were running in CAH I had a chance to work with Johnny Drama and we had developed quite the rivalry between our characters. But I don't think I'd be able to choose one person that I could say I had the most fun with.
trusty: Anyone that you've yet to have the pleasure of working with that you'd like to RP with?
NiteMare: I've always been a fan of MB, he does some great stuff, same with Syn and Keyser. I'm a fan of those guys and hope to maybe get a chance to do something with them sometime.
trusty: Who have you had the most fun portraying?
NiteMare: I'd say the most fun I've had is playing Icon and Joren over in Star Wars. But if I had to choose one, Icon hands down. He was one of the first characters I picked up here on the Hype, I've been playing him for acouple of years now so it's just alot of fun to get into his head and see how he responds to different situations that I throw at him.
trusty: I myself feel that often times when I write my character in CAH I'm simply putting him in situations and writing how I'd like to reply rather than how I may actually reply. Since you seem to enjoy writing Icon the most, do you feel yourself doing something similar? You feel you sometimes write yourself into the character?
NiteMare: Deffinately. In fact, I have something planned for him toward the end of the season that is entirely based on something that had happened to me not all that long ago, though I'm not going to say what that was, because that would ruin the surprise.
trusty: Well looking at your track of characters, if you had the choice to add any character you've yet to play that you could possibly imagine to that list...who would it be? Doesn't matter if they are currently taken in a game or if the game to play them in doesn't exist.
NiteMare: Oh, that's a tough one. I've always wanted to try my hand at Batman or Spiderman, but I think that I could have alot of fun with Huntress.
trusty: Interesting choice. Huntress is my favorite Gotham gal. What has stopped you from giving her a go in either the DC, UDC, or OU RPG?
NiteMare: I'm not really sure. I think if I were to join UDC I'd choose someone else because that game is very Gotham-centric at the moment. But other than that, I can't really think of any reason why I haven't given her a shot other than just a lack of time to devote to another character.
trusty: Well so you know while she has history in the DC history it was very minial bunnying and nothing at all to feel overwhelmed about.
NiteMare: lol, I may just have to look into that.
trusty: Being a member of the SHH! RPGs for some time now, you've had your fair share of arcs. Some bigger than others. What has been your favorite arc thus far in your RPG career?
NiteMare: Without a doubt the Alien Invasion arc we did over in CAH. Reason being is that it really helped save that game. We had seen alot of people come back to the game, but alot of that momentum we had died out and we weren't getting very many posts, so Spike and I talked about what we could do to re-energize the game, and we came up with the Arlaaekan Invasion. Fortunately, that arc did exactly what we hoped it would do and then some.
trusty: You've experience the fear of an RPG almost dying when things were insanely slow with CAH. But sadly not all RPGs outside the Big Three are as fortunate as the save that came with CAH this Season. Is there any RPG that had died during your time with the SHH! RPGs that you greatly miss?
NiteMare: I'd say the Zombie RPG. I had been following that somewhat closely but by the time I actually got around to applying the game had died.
trusty: RPGs are ran differently throughout the internet. Are there any changes you'd make to the SHH! RPGs had you the power?
NiteMare: Honestly, I can't think of any changes that I'd make. I think that they're all run pretty well.
trusty: Damn...guess I can't make a stab at MB seeing as he is the mod then. Why are you the way you are, NiteMare? Fun sucker.
NiteMare: lol, sorry. I just think that the RPG's here allow for alot of freedom that you don't get on other boards. I mean, have you checked out the Ultimatum RPG? Some of that stuff is golden.
trusty: Actually no I haven't checked it out. But I see what you mean about the freedom.
Alright, is there anything you'd like to shout out to your fellow RPers as we close this interview?
NiteMare: I just want to say that the guys (and gals) we have here on the Hype are some of the best players I've had the pleasure to roleplay with. They all do a great job weaving their stories and I really enjoy reading what they are doing, and I always end up looking forward to what they're going to do next.
trusty: What a guy, ladies and gents. The entire time all he talked about was how great you all are rather than himself when he was in the spotlight.
I'm trustyside-kick, and I will see ya around, NiteMare. Goodnight.
NiteMare: G'nite.
From what I've been able to pick up, NightMare Shape has come across as one of the real "Nice Guys" of not only the RPGs, but the whole Boards in general.
First rule about these things: anyone who asks for an interview doesn't get one.![]()
