The Hype RPGs 2010 Awards!

Honestly, of all the awards I won the last time we did this, this will probably be the one I cherish the most. I loved every minute of the Holiday story, and considering I had the story span from November to August, that's a lot of ****ing minutes. Thanks to all those that read and enjoyed it. If you liked that, go read James Ellroy's L.A. Confidential and White Jazz. Seriously, go see how much of a big ****ing thief I am. But if you gotta steal, steal from the best! :awesome:

Everyone loves a good hero - a protagonist who's dedication and unfailing perserverence trumps all odds. But, without a villain, a hero cannot truly be great. In almost all ways, a menacing villain is truly what defines our heroes - and makes the stories we love so enthralling and entertaining to read.

The nominies for Best Villain are:
Byrd Man said:
Joker (Keyser Soze, WoH)

Bane (Spike_x1, UDC)

Reverend Madlove (Raindog, CAH)

Lex Luthor (Andy C, UDC)

Darkseid (Watchman, WoH)

Admiral Thrawn (Wiegabo, SW)

Ultima (Johnny Drama, CAH)

Norman Osborn (Andy C, HvV)

And the winner is...

When I first stumbled upon the SHH RPGs, the term "Walking The Line" character seemed like an oddity to me at first. The classification is just something that is not as common as being a Hero or a Villain. Ironically the first character I ever took up was at the time a Walking The Line character. These are the kind of characters that are often either like that of an anti-hero or sometimes a villain that has a change of heart and tries to change his ways in his own eyes and ways but struggles to achieve that goal. Just that alone tells you how difficult it is to write a spectacular and convincing Walking The Line character. But there are some who have done such a great job.

The nominees for Best "Walking The Line" Character are:
Best "Walking The Line" Character:

James Gordon (Catman_Prb, UDC)

Sinestro (wiegabo, WoH)

Rotta Desilijic Tiure (Rain Dog, SW)

Edward Nygma (Byrd Man, UDC)

Damian Wayne (Bounce, WoH)

The Invisible Man (wiegabo, CAH)
And the winner is...

Once again, thanks everyone who read and actually liked my work as Edward Nygma. He has slowly become my favorite RPG character of all time, bar none. Big thanks to the two men who really made it possible: A thank you to Gallagher who posted an app and never followed through with it. He planted the seed. And another big thanks to Cats who's Jim Gordon proved to be foe/friend to Nygma and really inspired me to keep the character. Thank you both.

Best Hero

Whoever said that bad guys were more fun may have been wrong. As proven time and time again, the most sought after character type is always the goody-two-shoes, spandex wearing alien from another planet, the angst-ridden, down on his luck kid who got zapped with cosmic rays, or someone who's heart just happens to be in the right place after watching injustice after injustice kick the little guy down. Heroes are a dime a dozen in the comic book world, but it takes a real writer to inspire us to believe in their morality, and engage us with their more than human struggles, hoping that their selflessness will win the day against the forces of evil.

In the last award of the evening, the nominees for Best Hero are...

Best Hero:

Hal Jordan (Keyser Soze WoH)

Batman (Batman, UDC)

Spider-Man (Andy C, ASM)

Superman (Andy C., WoH)

Luke Skywalker (wieagbo, SW)

The Flash (Byrd Man, UDC)

James Gordon (Byrd Man, OU)

It should be noted that this award was probably the closest call. Nearly ending in a tie, only one was ultimately crowned the winner by a single vote - after being pit against himself!

Who could it be?

Why, it's that mysterious, masked vigilante who scours the rooftops of a decaying metropolis to inflict vengeance upon the fearful, hiding in the shadows while draped in black, refusing to give up in his neverending crusade against injustice...

...while quoting Battlestar Galactica

.......:wow:

Now that I seriously did not see coming. I'm honestly more than a little blown away by that.

I've already said my piece about how much I love writing All-Star Spidey, and how much of my heart and soul I put into trying to make the guy seem 'real,' so I won't go on about that again. But in all honesty, I'm a little awed by the fact that you guys chose him out of some really really great contenders. Thanks so much to everyone who voted for him.

(and MB's description is not inaccurate; All-Star Spider Man does currently wear black.)

Also, big congrats to Spike and Byrd for Best Villain and Walking-The-Line, and even more congrats to Byrd for Ultimate Holiday. UDC, represent!

I don't know what to say, other than the fact that I am honestly touched by the Best Villain award, and that I had a great time the night that Mr. Maroni passed away. Probably tied with Pre-Infinite Crisis Parasite, Bane is my favorite comic book villain, so it goes without saying that I really threw myself into the writing for him.

It's kinda funny that my idea for Ultimate Bane just sort of snowballed from a suggestion I made in the "Dark Knight Sequel" forums about how the character could possibly appear in a movie; adapting his comic book relationship with Ra's Al Ghul, and using the plot point that Batman himself was trained by the Demon's Head in the movies. I kept trying to convince people that, despite how he appears in videogames and cartoons, Bane's never been the Hulk, doesn't need venom since he really only used it for one story, and a line-for-line adaptation of Knightfall isn't necessary. Then I used the UDC RPG to finally try to convince myself of those ideas.

Conveniently, MB had used Ra's Al Ghul in his Batman origin, so it was the perfect opportunity to test my idea. I've definitely thrown in homages to Knightfall here and there, but I like to think I'm doing my own thing and working out a killer character with the help of MB, and with plenty more surprises to come!

I'd like to throw my congrats in as well, everyone here is top notch and very deserving of their awards.

Welcome back, welcome back. Last night we wrapped up the IC awards and today we start up on the OOC awards.

Here are our awards for tonight.

Best Newcomer (Presented by trustyside-kick)
Most Improved (Presented by Blacklight)
Breakout Player(Presented by wiegabo)
Best Gamemaster

Newbies, n00bs...we try to honor them a bit better by using the term 'Newcomer' for this award. But that is because, the new blood that are nominated for such an award do a job that surprises you. Read some of their posts, and you'd think they have been here all along. Some, longer than others they do such a great job. They are the nublets, but they are our nublets.

The nominees for Best Newcomer are:
Best Newcomer:

Bounce

As writers, we strive to hone and improve our skills so that one day we can share our talents to the world. That's what this award is all about. It recognizes a certain individual who's made leaps and bounds and who's skills as a writer have grown a considerable amount in just a short period of time.

That said, I present the award for Most Improved Player of 2010!

*Walks across the stage as the song fishes*

Neil Patrick Harris, everyone!

A player, veteran or newb, that seemingly comes out of nowhere and shows us something special in the games. That's the definition of a Breakout Player. It doesn't matter how long a player has been around, what does matter is they reach down deep and give us something new and interesting, surpassing all expectations.

The nominees for Breakout Player of the Year are:

Carnage 27

Eddie Brock

Syn (Mercenary)

Rain Dog

Catman_prb

Nitemare Shape

Bounce

How about that last presenter folks? What a helluva guy!

Anyone can run a game. But not just anyone can run a game successfully. And even fewer can keep a game running strong even when all the players are slacking and posts have dried up. Those rare GM's are considered the best.

The Best GM nominees are...

Byrd Man

wiegeabo

NiteMare Shape

Trustyside-kick
And the winner is...

Thanks....again. Swear, vote for someone else, people! :cmad:
But yeah, thanks for all the votes and love. I'll be honest, I don't think I deserve this one. I let the folks in the Heroes vs. Villains game down with my sketchy record and let that game flounder and all the other games I'm in I use the help of far better people, trusty and wieg in WoH do all the heavy lifting. This award if for you two, you deserve it.

In any RPG, a single player is only as good as the whole so if I've done anything to deserve this award that is purely because the games I've chosen to affiliate myself with here are of the highest caliber and with no end of talent among the veteran writers.

So thank you. Not only for this award but for just doing what you were doing before I came along, which is being a group of outstanding writers. I'm happy to have had an opportunity to write with those of you that I've written with and look forward to opportunities to write with others among this crowd.

Except Byrd Man. :oldrazz:

This one took me by surprise, thanks, guys. I also wanna say congrats to all of our winners. There's been some times where I've sat back and wondered if anyone even read my stuff but now I know that's not the case. I really apprec--
