Great interview guys

Just shows that you need to go easy on people when they first start out.

SPECIAL EDITION

STATE OF THE RPG

Welcome to a special edition of Inside The Poster's Studio. Time for the first anual State of The RPG announcment...now, all rise for the RPG Mod and First Lady.

*Twy enters the room to thunderous applause, MB enters to thunderous boos*

Let's start about something that just came to past the past week or so. The talk of the RPG rotation schedule. This was originally twy's idea, how did it come about, twy?

Hmm, two reasons. One, the RPG's seem to have ben moving very slowly the last few months, I do admit I have contributed to it but just as someone who's played for the past 3 years it's very frustrating to see. Two, I wish I could play move of the newer RPG's, for instance Andy's, I am *dying* to play that and I'd love to focus on the Gods & Men one for a while. My thought was if a rotation was implemented it would give everyone involved in the RPG's a fair chance to play without being overloaded.

It seemed to me it was a love it or leave it idea. The idea is pretty much dead, but what would have been the next step if it had have been adopted?

The next step would have been actually to work out a rotation/staggering that would have been fair to each RPG. As totally impossible as it sounds, it probably wouldn't have worked. The idea did wonderful secondary work at actually raising awareness for how the players actually felt and condensed it into one area. Whereas before to find opinions as to players ideas for the entire forum. You have to know them on IM or hop from OOC thread to OOC thread

A part of the problem is the many RPGs we have on the forums, maybe the problem is in the RPG approval system? Do you think it's too easy to create an RPG on these boards?

*sigh* Well, when we first started the approval process, I hope it was something MB agreed with, he didn't say otherwise But when we started it and came up with the process we basically left it up to the players. It was their forum, we were given it because of them, and in many ways they have ownership of it, which is a departure from other forums on Hype.
The pressure was there for the players to chose and we agreeded however I don't think anyone anticipated that so many good RPG ideas would be presented, and I* do think that the process has become a bit flawed in light of recent activities, and the sudden bursts through wich the RPG's come through approvals. We probably should have staggered the accepting a bit to allow the new RPG's to have time
develop on their own, without the 'competition' of other new RPG's. Somehow that round-aboutly answers your question, but not really >.<;

MB? Your response?

He's busy playing with his action heroes

Or with himself.

ewww

My response is, while I didn't nessecarily want to make a drastic change to the system, I knew if it was ignored, the problem would just keep coming up. Twy's solution seemed the most sensible, to me, and I ran with it. It met hostility, but I still stand by the option, should this ever become an increased problem.

How do you two feel about inactive posters? Both of you being GMs, what's your take on those who only post to keep their character and the two week rule?

I think posters, should they be consistently inactive, should be dealt with per the rules for the given RPG, unless they've provided a suitable excuse.
We've got too many good characters who are taken up by lazy posters, and quite frankly, that isn't fair to the others.

I can cast no stones and presently I'm not a GM However the two week rule, or whatever week rule the GM's decide on should be enforced. It is hard however to enforce it due to certain elements the GM might not always control and GMing is hard to do in such circumstances. (is so glad she got out of GMing)

Yeah! You stuck me with the job over in DC. You *****!

You're doing awesome by the way.
It's cool to see how we GM differently and honestly that's why I chose you.. so we couldn't compared and we both come off looking like the best.

The thing is, if I can elaborate here, the players who don't post aren't treating this as it is: A game. If they don't post, the game becomes less fun, and that's why they should be removed if they do.

I agree with you, MB. The point of this is to have fun. Creating a rotation system and bringing in graphs and charts takes away from that fun

Well, but on the flip side, to many rules turn a person off to the game, and if they're having a high pressure job they can't keep up with it. HENCE the rotation idea so thay won't have to choose, will I post for Marvel today..or DC?

Then they need to priortize their life

And that's where the influx of RPG's do little to help

Yep and if they can't keep pace, they need to drop out of RPGs until they can keep pace.

We're not getting any new players, and the well is running dry. It's an endless circle. The Circle of RPGs...

*sings and holds up MB over a cliff*

Oh god! Next question! You proposed and created a character bank, mostly so people can keep up with who the played and when. Do you think the bank will beneficial for players wanting to know a characters history in a well established RPG?

Umm..I think it can, mostly though...it's just for fun ^_^ I love seeing where people have been and where they are in their characters

Indeed. That's always a common question, when people apply for a character with history. "What's been done with this character? Who do I go to?". Now, they'll know.

Good. The less n00bs I have to deal with, the better

I think to an extent, twy's right too. It's mostly for show, and a little backtracking, aswell as the challenge of remembering who the hell you've played.

Yes, and it makes we weep for wieg after seeing his character list

Or...It's at the very least to show off whether you're a dedicated player to one of a **** who sleeps around.

I'm proud to be a ****!

Me too! Prosistute union UNITE! ...I didn't even spell that right.
I'm a lousy ****e. :csad:

Typos is what you get when you sleep around.Wieg doesn't have them

Oh kiss his ass some more.

So that's why you like playing with him.

I do. ^_^
Eh you're just jealous I stopped kissing yours!

Hey, it's your loss.
:
Okay, next question. What's your opinon on the roles and duties of a GM? Both of you have been GMs before and it seems like many, many, people start RPGs just to become a GM.

I think in the beginning the GM's had a pretty easy job *speaking as one of them* it was pretty much to establish the baseline rules and work with them and the players. However as the RPG's have grown and he individual RPG's effect other RPG's more now I do think the GM's need to take more steps in upholding the rules, take ownership a bit more? I really don't know it depends on each induvidual RPG

That and roster updates! Overall, would you say it's a fun job? Like I said, many newbies want to become GMs.

Heeelll no it's not a fun job. And that's why people need to hold off trying to become one.

It's fun for me, because I get to use my huge ego and be overbearing and they can't stop me

*sigh* I'll be honest when I was doing it, it was fun. ^_^ There were some rough patches, because, let's admit it, with people as creative as the players we have they're all very opinionated, they want their opinions to matter. *they do ^_^* What ultimately burned me out I think was the large amount of induviduals who came to me for something, or commented it takes it's toll after a while.
You have to balance human needs with what needs to be done, it's a huge juggling act that while challenging, for me I enjoyed it while I did it. I ultimately failed in some area's, upholding the 2 week rule was one of them. But the responsibility of having my actions, my decisions effect others while not always fun, is very rewarding if you're able to keep that respect the players have for you.
but it's a very long, hard journey, especially if you go into it not knowing how to GM.

I'm not a bad GM!

I never said you were...?

But you are a bad GM, MB.

Shut up, commie.

We all know I'm the Hype's best GM. Well, we've talked and Bull****ed enough. Before we end this interview, let's hear your long final speeches.
.
.I was supposed to have a speech?

Yes. Didn't you read the assignment?

You didn't send me one.

My bad. What's your final words before we finish here?

The thing about it is, even with all the shortcomings that the system has, it obviously works. No one's left because of it, and it's not made anything harder... quite the contrary. It's made things easier. People constantly complain about an RPG forum and how it's supposedly 'wrecked' everything, but come now.Can you honestly see the RPG's existing the way they used to, with as many as the ones that have shown up since? It'd be a nightmare. I think, above all, we're alot better off, and we should be more grateful of the fact that we were even given the attention to warrant our own forum, our own system, our own hard work put to good use.

Many of you have asked, most of you haven't, but for everyone; the state of the RPG's is STRONG! Sometimes this year we'll be marking our first anniversary of having our own forum area, we have ruled ourselves, we have respected ourselves, and we have been blessed (or cursed) with one of our own joining the ranks of the red-lettered-names. There is no where else we can go but up! And if we do happen to go down, it will be in a spectacular, multi-colored fireball of words and fiery passion. They might write about what they want done in the comics section, but here, we actually do it. over half a dozen new RPG's have been born here, and many more will be. Let us write strong, write hard and never give up.

Seriously, Syn...I worry about you some times.

Seriously, Syn...I worry about you some times.
You should. But not so much for me, more so as to what I'm going to do to you.

...Waits for usual miscontrued joke...

Seriously, I don't mean to complain, but how many times have you interviewed twy already? Spread the wealth - even if it's not with me. I'd like to see some new people in the 'hot seat.'

Seconded.

That's two times for Twy, and two for MB. I chose them both because of their roles in the RPG community. If there were really a State of The RPGs adress, one of them would give it.

...If your interviewing people about the state of the RPG its gonna be MB, Byrd and Twy. Deal with it.
