I remember seeing BB and thinking man I'm old i cant follow action like I use to.

I'd like for the action scenes to be pretty much the same as in Batman Begins. I'm sure it's been said before, but the criminals Batman's fighting with can't see the moves clearly, so why should we? The shaky camera and quick cuts demonstrate to us how ferocious Batman is, and how much the thugs fear him. However, I think if he were to go head to head with the Joker, the camera should pull back, and the shot's should last longer, because Joker isn't afraid of Batman, taking away that advantage.

Thats what I thought they were going for and if thats what it was meant then he did it quite well if not then either I'm old or it doesnt work. good thought though have a cookie

Very insightful I'm-The-Batman, I like that idea.

yeah, that's pretty smart. plus, who gives a sh-t when he's just fighting thugs. the joker fight is the only fight that matters. i mean, i didn't particularly like the choppy close-up style in begins, but it wasn't awful. i'd prefer to see everything, but as long as we see a full shot of joker punching batman right in the gut and laughing with clownish glee, i'll be satisfied.

I'd like some new angle's when shooting the fighting scenes. Lets actually see Batman kick some thug ass, instead of FING FANG FOOM, all done...

I think the brutal, real life fighting in BB was perfect for a gritty film like Nolan was going for,I think the fighting would seem so forced if the fighting scenes were longer like when he fights Ras on the ice and on the train both scenes are fairly long and I could see every move pretty clearly, but I wouldnt complain if they did some Equilibrium fighting scenes too(If you havent seen this movie I recomend it,Bale is in it,enough said). As long as there are no CGI fighting(spider-man,daredevil,hulk)and no slow motion I will happy.Remember Nolan can do no wrong.

A must, I like how it was quick but I love it when its quick and they dont shake and change the shot so you are confused its like your too slow. Like in Snatch when Mickey punches gorgeous george. You go wait wtf!

well after watching the 3rd bourne film, that is much better than what BB showed.

I watched BB when i got home from the movies and its actually pretty horrible. I know some people like it and I did to a certain extent but it was overused.

The "choppy" action worked in Batman Begins, because the movie was supposed to introduce us to the character and what the character does.

I don't want to see that in this movie, especially with The Joker. I want to actually SEE that fight. As long as I get to see Batman vs. The Joker, I don't care about the choppy action. If Nolan wants to do that for the thugs, fine. Don't do that to The Joker, though.

Haha it should be slowed down like the Hot Gates scene in 300. That would be awesome though, to see Batman in slow mo taking down hundreds of bad guys (like Ra's Al Ghul said Wayne could do eventually in BB).

Compare the fighting in the Bourne Supremacy to the Bourne Ultimatum.

The camera work of Greengrass is the same, except for some notable differences. He answered and responded to the fans and critics of the movie. He kept his style the same, however he pulled the camera back a little bit and let us actually watch the intense fight scenes from a place where we could actually follow it.

The big fight in the apartment in the Bourne Ultimatum is one of the most intense fighting sequences I've seen in a very long time.

If Nolan answered his critics like Greengrass did and just pulls back and lingers a little bit, he can maintain his style and let us actually appreciate and understand the fight choreography.

No people just want to see whats going on.
How was it unique if they are copying the same style from the Bourne films????
But that is the big thing. It worked for you but it didnt work for the 137 people who voted in this poll.

These polls are worth what they're worth: beside having fanboys talk, not much. Around these foruns I even read people casting Poison Ivy, Robin or Catwoman... But hey, it's another fans opinion. To be in minority doesn´t mean I'm wrong. There's NOTHING said in this thread about the fighting editing that made me even think about it. See the Spidey example. Fanboys asked and cryed about Venom and black costume for sooooo long... The result? Pure crap. I'm with Nolan at being a better filmaker that deliver a film that stands on its own, not only batfans pleaser. I respect your opinion, just dont agree at all. Good thread anyway.

Just because fan boys are the ones saying that they should improve the fighting it doesn't make it a bad idea. The fact is, it was really hard to tell what was going on in the BB. The editing was horrible. The Bourne Ultimatum does a better job of making you feel "in" the action (which was Nolan's justification of the editing) and showing you how brutal fights can be because they actually show you what's going on. If you can't see what's going on in a fight scene then why film one at all?

I wholeheartedly agree. As I said earlier in the thread, I think that fight in Bourne Ultimatum was one of the best fight sequences I've ever seen.

Exactly. And the movie was COMPLETELY in Greengrass's style. So there is no excuse for Nolan not to be able to do something like this. Put a few more seconds between the cuts and have the camera pulled back a foot or two and it would make a world of difference.

EXCELLENT THREAD! Everytime I talk about BB I have to harp on this. To see it from the thug's perspective is Ok sometimes, even RARELY is more accurate. But this time around the figths have to be seen throughout the entire film. The martial art Keysi is very well done and as they show on behind the scenes footage it defintely requires a ZOOM OUT because are so quick and in close range. Hopefully Nolan will learn from his mistakes and not butcher the fights again. I don't mind seeing Keysi again because it's awesome to watch, but Batman has always had an arsenal of martial arts that he mixes 2gether so I hope they incorporate some more martial arts along with Keysi. A couple more cool gadgets would be nice and what else can I ask for; give me a good story, good fights to actually watch, do the Joker justice, and leave me comin' back for more. That's all I can ask at the end of the day, after I watched it in theaters 3 or more times :)

Muay Thai, (I don't know how to spell it), is pretty spectacular. I wish they would incorporate some of that.

That apartment fight sequence in the Bourne Ultimatum IS the best fight scene I've ever seen. I hope Nolan saw that scene... :wow:.

Im hoping for a little less up close and personal and more of a watch him do this stuff type of thing. I mean I LOVE the docks scene in BB and the fighting was cool because it was basically from 1 or 2 POVs the criminal or the bat, id like a close by standard

Yeah, I mean some of the fights were close to being okay. The ending showdown with Ra's on the train really wasn't too bad, but if they had, like you said, pulled the camera back a tiny bit and shown perhaps two more seconds between each cut it would have been sooo much better. I mean, if they go through all the trouble to use a new martial arts system in their movie they might as well film the fights so we can see it in action.

Just saw Bourne, the fights are great, they're all about the confined spaces but I'm not sure it'd be the best for Batman, the cape might get in the way. A bat-fight is probably not an easy thing to choreograph, I'm not sure I have seen a completely satisfying one yet. Can't wait to see what they come up with in TDK.

I think the problem with comparisons to bourne or even casino royale is that there the two combatants are supposed to be more closely matched, whereas in begins he took out half a dozen nameless thugs at a time

that said, the joker could have some moves that force batman into a more drawn-out, brutal fight instead of a quick flash of the elbows

YES, I want the same fighting as seen in BB... Just pan out the damn camera!!! This was critizied by practickly ALL when BB was first released... If they pan out the camera (so that you can actually see that badass martial arts form Keysi!) than it's perfect!

It's funny. They searched the world for a new exiting martial arts form to be used in BB. Than when they found it, what do they do!?.. They go in so close that you can't see what the hell is going on! In other words, all their beautiful martial-arts-choreography went to waste! DUMB??? I'm afraid so! DONT make that mistake for the sequel, please!

Ding ding ding! Thankyou!
