The Dark Knight Interesting (About the Joker's Look.)

I had no idea there was such passion for this.

Neither does Mattel, which is why their toys suck. Look at what Hasbro does with the Star Wars figs; what Toy Biz did with LOTR and the Marvel figs. Yes kids buy them, but you know who buys far more of them?

COLLECTORS.

If Mattel was aware that it's the 21st century, they'd get wise. :o

The greatest toys ever where the transformers toys of the 80s they where a completely new concept a toy that was a vehicle and an action figure the downside was the crazy pricetags i forgot how much optimus prime cost but i remember thinking HOW MUCH!!.

Y'know, I thought that too, and then guess what? They came out with Star Wars Transformers. Star Wars Transformers. It's like the toy world has become that episode of Seinfeld where George combines sex with food and TV.

scarecrow i nthe movie was also scarier than the toy. i dont think that joker is to scary for kids.
but i would love to see a scary joker.

Mmm, I like this. Also - LMAO! Heath, I love you.

ETA: I should think that this would also indicate (assuming it is true of course) that the Joker is hardly going to be bland, as some have feared (yes, including me.) As long as it's not something like the Joker having a cut smile, I say - bring it on!

Thanks Mirinda. Interesting find.
I'd take this with a serious grain of salt. Sky Showbiz is not reliable when it comes to movie news. I think this site also claimed a few months ago that a Lois Lane spin-off movie was in the works.Which is complete bull.

That's actually because Mattel is stupid.

Mattel always does that with their Batman toys. It doesn't matter if it's TAS figs, movie figs, comic figs... they always have to make "Neon Camouflage Stomach Pump Attack Batman with Scuba-Mask and Parachute."

The reason is that they believe the only toys that will sell are Batman figs. So they make a bunch of variants of him just to try and sell as many figs as they can.

What, you want him to actually FIGHT somebody? Okay, here's "Ridiculously Large Hands Scarecrow," and, just for fun, he'll look NOTHING like the guy in the movie. Have fun, kids.

That's why Batman toys suck, Mattel has NO CLUE how to do it. It's also why there were so many costume changes in Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. They figured if Mattel was going to make a million different versions of the same three characters, the filmmakers might as well control how they would look.

And even then -- most notably for Batman & Robin - the toys STILL bore no resemblance to anything in the movie.

Word.

But, IMO, the only time I think the thousand variants theory actually worked was with Kenner Dark Knight collection toy line. Those had some awesome accessories to make up for the fact that you where buying the same Batman figure just repainted. It was simple and elegant. It's my favorite Batman related toy series so far.

What i dont understand about the toys issue with DC is that they have amazing sculptures at their disposal. I have Batman the Dark knight returns Batman and Joker figures and Gotham by Gaslight batman mike mignola figure, which are figures that are jaw dropping and rival even mcfarlane toys.

They should let DC direct do the movie toys. They would sell more to the older crowd( who have money in their pockets). I didnt buy any batman begins figures for my collection cuz they all looked like crap.

DC direct is the way to go.

Does anyone watch the tv show Ugly Betty? it may seem strange to some but that guy who plays marc reminds me of joker whenever i see him his dress sense and movement is perfect joker add a sadistic crazy streak and i swear he could have played the part.

As long as they don't turn new Joker into Nicholson's, everything sounds fine for me.

Besides, I don't think TDK will be as dark as was BR, because Nolan isn't Burton.

Yes, underground may look much darker and Batman's methods of fighting with crime can also become severer than they were in BB.

But still, TDK will be adventure superhero movie like was BB, so I doubt there will be more violence.

What if sudenly someone leaks a concept drawing of the joker, everyone here would go crazier than a laughing gas victim:oldrazz:

I used to have a Returns toy that was Keaton in a black sweater with a red bat on it, and black pants, and he had a chestplate, cowl and cape, gloves, and boots that could go onto him and turn him into Batman. Of course, with the "suit" on he looked like a kid in a Halloween costume. Another weird toy.

Dude, i had that when I was a kid. I loved it personally.

Ughh isn't it a little early for Mattel to be making action figures?

they haven't yet. Ledger's just speculating on what the doll will look like based on the Joker look they've created.

Keyser, that description is one of the single funniest things I've read on this site!

I have to say.... As I'm reading this thread, I'm about 96% certain that Ledger's Joker will be the freakiest and scariest damn thing EVER put in a film.

I mean, if they're worried about the TOY looking too scary, imagine how this freaky bastard is going to look in real life.

I swear to god, at this rate.... He's going to beat Leatherface and Freddy Kruger.

Christopher Nolan is going to give us one hell of a dark movie, you watch.

They might have to fight HARD for the PG-13... I wouldn't be surprised.

What do you mean? The Dark Knight Action figures are ALREADY out -- in fact, they've BEEN out.

Seriously, though, as a kid, that guy was kinda creepy.

LOL, thanks!

"Dammit! Joker poisoned... burritos... poisoned... poisoned... must use... stomach-pump... poisoned, poisoned..."

Or, alternately... "no way, man, Johnny Gobbs got ripped and puked off a roof, alright?" "Naw man, that ain't what I heard at all... I heard that... the stomach pump got him."

I swear, some of the toys they make scare the crap outta me! I mean did you see the Begins "deluxe" line? In what universe does Batman need to wear orange and white and have a giant frame that resembles the thing that popped out of John Hurt's stomach in the original "Alien" spray-painted gold and wired with red lights strapped to his back?!?!?

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's scary, but not, I think, in the way Batman prefers...

The only way the doll would be scary for children is if he was foaming at the mouth, with a blood-soaked straightjacket or purple suitcoat and slacks, and holding a bloody knife. Otherwise, it takes alot for today's kids to get scared.

But that's how I want him to look.
