What i dont understand about the toys issue with DC is that they have amazing sculptures at their disposal. I have Batman the Dark knight returns Batman and Joker figures and Gotham by Gaslight batman mike mignola figure, which are figures that are jaw dropping and rival even mcfarlane toys.

They should let DC direct do the movie toys. They would sell more to the older crowd( who have money in their pockets). I didnt buy any batman begins figures for my collection cuz they all looked like crap.

DC direct is the way to go.

What parents view as scary and what chikldren actually find scary can be very different things. Many parents don't want to buy their kids 'horrible' toys. I think that's what Ledger is talking about.

That's very true. My grandmother once accused Optimus Prime of looking like "the devil himself." And it was Optimus Prime! To me Optimus Prime was a friendly face. It was that bastard Megatron you wanted no truck with.

I agree, I bought batman and the joker from thier the long halloween series and I love them. Joker looks especially awesome.

I think you're misinterpreting the article. Heath wasn't saying the Joker would look like a doll, he's saying the doll of the Joker (i.e., the action figure they make based on the movie) will be scary, which in turn implies that the look of the Joker in the film will be scary.

But it didn't say much beyond that.

If mattel has the licence for action figures then Warners should give it to someone else too (like they did for POTC, Zizzle did the childrens figures, Neca did the more grown up ones and Disney store even had there range)

Bob was the most loyal goon that The Joker had. He was there from the very start. Never questioned why his boss looked like a clown. Never questioned his green hair or big smile. Loyal!

At no point should the production of DKR have any conditions based on merchandise. IF the new Joker's look is scary or terrifying then fine but I dont want to see or hear anything about the merchandise affecting the movie in any way. The Shumacher films were heavily conditioned by merchandise developement and the films importance as whole came second. B&R turned into a big commercial for the toy and products that were created from the film....and nothing more.

BB was done right. Make the movies then figure out how to do the toys...dont downplay the movie characters, props or whatever based on the projected profits from licensed sales.
That's not what the article says mind you...but as long as it's all in developement I just hope they stick to their guns and do the movie as they plan to without outside influences on the merchandising. So the new Joker is scary looking....who cares about the Joker action figure if the movie Joker isnt done right anyhow?
Design the the characters...make the movie...then worry about the merchandise. Please Please not the other way around.

Then I don't see the problem with selling a crazy scary looking "doll" of the Joker.

Kids don't buy the toys = Warner Bros gets less money = Warner Bros makes sure the villains in Batman VII are toy friendly. Call it the Batman Returns cycle.

He had a stupid kicking action though, it fixed his leg in position.

It always annoyed me as a child when the figures bore no resemblence to the film character. Bob for example: Had a beard and was balding - What!?

In England we never got Gordon, or Alfred or anybody like that - Oh, how I envied you Americans.

The only really good film-esque character we got was the Batman Returns Catwoman who had her movie costume and the whip.

Lord I hope not. I saw these figures at a comic store the other day and realized just how far we'd come. The leg kick feature drove me to Shining like craziness as a child.

Obviously you haven't seen some action figures from NECA, SOTA or Mcfarlane Toys. Granted The Dark Knight figures will probably suck and only be for kids since their being made by Mattel but there are some adult collectible figures out there.
